Chapter 129 – It’s never too late for change, Sabrina.
Sabrina took pity on him and wanted to accept the invitation to dance again but then, when she remembered how Robin did not blink when she asked for the divorce and agreed to it because of Zayla, her heart hardened.0
"I don't feel like dancing."
Robin's heart dropped into his stomach. Opportunities like this were like once in a lifetime. He would not be able to get it again unless there was another event that was not business because, at that venture, Sabrina would be too busy to honor it. This was his only chance and he did not want to miss it.
"Please, just this once. For the sake of our little bond," Robin pleaded helplessly, pointing to her stomach. The dress she wore hid her pregnancy well so that little bump did not show at all.
Sabrina did not want anyone to see her dancing with her ex-husband but from Robin's insistence on it, she was afraid that he would continue asking.
"Just this once."
Robin smiled and rose to his feet but as soon he held his hand out to Sabrina, his shoulder collided with someone and he felt a paper being stuffed into the palm of his left hand.
"Sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going," Matilda apologized. However, Robin felt there was more to it and what Matilda did was not an accident so he decided to engage her a little after hiding the note away.
"It's okay. Congratulations on your engagement."
"Thank you," Matilda smiled before she turned to Sabrina, saying apologetically,
"I don't mean to neglect you but I'm having fun with my fiancé." The truth was, she was speaking in irony because Robin looked so good together with Sabrina.
Robin recalled that the pregnant woman should have her supper since it would be too late by the time they left the party.
"Matilda, can you do me a favor?"
"Sure," Matilda said with a smile. Robin smiled back and said,
"I want you to have Sabrina's meals served in your room by yourself. Since the party started, I have not allowed her to drink anything. The fruit juice they gave her before was good. I would like more for her."
Matilda felt guilty for not thinking about Sabrina's safety when Mara was hiding somewhere. She needn't ask Robin's reason for being so careful since they both knew that Mara was still in the picture.
"Don't worry, I will take care of it," Matilda was saying when Devin grabbed Robin by the collar, yelling and attracting attention, if not for the loud music playing in the background.
"What did you take from my fiancé?" Devin demanded furiously. He did not trust Robin a bit. If he could be married and be fucking around, what was the assurance that he would not be messing with Matilda too?
"Excuse me?" Robin pretended not to know what he was talking about and asked, "Are you not afraid of getting your father-in-law upset if you continue behaving like an animal?"
Devin's hands on his collar dropped instantly but the fury remained in his eyes whiles he asked sternly,
"What were you telling her right now?"
Robin did not see anything wrong in telling him since it involved his sister. "I'm not comfortable with the crowd. There are lots of people I don't know so I asked her to serve Sabrina in her room. Is that too much to ask?"
Devin was slightly ashamed at how fast he judged and tried to cover it up, saying, "No but I don't want you talking to her."
Robin did not mind obeying his command at this moment since he was engaged to Matilda. "I will respect that so can you pass the message to her for me?" He asked sarcastically, Devin felt embarrassed as Matilda looked at him with disappointment.
"Devin, he was just asking for food for Sabrina," Matilda said in annoyance. She would not have kept the note a secret from Devin if he did not trust his best friend foolishly. That was his only mistake.
"I saw you shaking his hand," Devin pointed out when Matilda replied,
"He was just congratulating us on our engagement. Isn't he partly part of the family? I wonder why talking to him seems like a sin to you."
Dismay lingered with each word Matilda spoke and Devin found himself becoming guiltier. He held her hand and kissed the back of it while saying, "I'm sorry Matilda, I never meant it that way."
Matilda pulled her hand away in annoyance and said politely, "I will get food for Sabrina."
Devin was embarrassed and said, "I'm coming with you."
He had to find a way to calm her since his level of jealousy and possessiveness was too much for her to handle at this moment.
As soon as they left, Robin pulled Sabrina into his arms and she felt uneasy but when she realized it was because of the dance she already agreed to, she slowly relaxed.
"So, when was the last time you danced with anyone?" Robin casually asked though he knew how his wife was never the sociable type.
He pulled her so close to his chest that Sabrina was afraid that should she lift her head, their lips might crash, thereby remaining there and moving to the rhythm of the music.
"Robin, we've been divorced for how many months? I've been too busy to dance and I remember the last party I went to, I was selling jewelry," she responded sarcastically but Robin smiled and praised her,
"And you did an amazing job. I regret that I didn't know you had such skills."
Their closeness and the way his voice vibrated through his heartbeat sent warmth through Sabrina, which she did not want to get accustomed to and yet, Robin would not even twirl her around so she would take advantage to create a gap between them.
"There is a lot you don't know about me, Robin, so much you will never know," Sabrina said sadly and Robin responded with remorse,
"I will make it my mission to know more about the woman I neglected so much."
Sabrina shook her head, knowing there was no way for him to make it up to her. "Don't you think it's too late for that?"
"It's never too late for change, Sabrina," Robin said softly with certainty.
Their peaceful moment was distracted by a shrill voice, "Robin! Is this why you refused to bring me along?" It was Zayla.
