Chapter 139 - You foolish child
'There are no diamonds in the villa. I'm at the hospital now and if you don't pay up? I will confess everything to the police and the world.'1
Zayla filtered the most important part of the man's verbal report about searching the villa. The solid words kept echoing in Zayla's mind, she began to feel hot. At this moment, she was calculating her losses.
One is her father's money which she stole to use as a part-payment when she felt that her father would not agree with the original plan.
Two, the diamonds were not found, which meant the money spent could not be recovered. A very great loss for so much money.
Three, the man was demanding more money which Zayla did not have. This had become an unforeseen debt.
Four, he was threatening to involve the police which meant that he would also be arrested for burglary so Zayla was not scared of that part but was scared of the last option.
Five, the man was going to expose everything to the world. That was blackmail.
Zayla's mind could not find the solution to the problem she put herself in, all because of Sabrina. She hated Sabrina so much she was waiting for the news of her death, not caring anymore that she needed the baby in her womb.
The four among the five things were enough to make Zayla lose her mind. She had forgotten that the man was still on the phone until he voiced impatiently,
"Ma'am, you have 48 hours to pay up the balance or I will inform the press," the man said and hung up the call. He already knew that Zayla knew how to find him to pay up the money.
Zayla did not remember for how long she remained in that position until her father's voice jolted her out of it.
"Zayla, have you heard from him?"
Ken was eager to lay hands on that diamond. If he did, he planned to forcefully take Zayla away.
Continuing to chase Robin after getting those diamonds would only land her in trouble. Ken knew that should he lay out his final plans, Zayla would not agree due to her love for Robin, and kept it from her.
His wife already left him for Florida and he had no intention to unite with her. She refused to help them with their plans and would not enjoy the benefit from it thereof.
Ken was not even planning to pay his business partners whose money he lost at the collapse of his company.
He was just planning to travel somewhere far away to start and enjoy his new life with his daughter and perhaps, find a good humble woman to have fun with but without the intention of getting married again.
Everything was well planned out.
Zayla could not keep the information to herself because of her father's money involved. Sooner than later, he would find out and she would be in trouble, especially when she had to return to the penthouse tomorrow.
"Yes, but he said there are no diamonds."
Ken's countenance sunk but his voice raised, "It's there."
He was sure of it because Robin's father could not have kept it anywhere else and he never saw those types of diamonds in the market.
They were rare and the most expensive of all. If Robin had it, his wealth would have tripled and if Sabrina had found it, she would have been richer than Robin.
With his careful innermost analysis, nothing could dissuade him of the fact that indeed, the diamonds were still in the villa and neither Sabrina nor Robin had found it.
"Where?" Zayla asked seriously, so she could send the thief to go and retrieve it but her father's response was discouraging.
"I don't know but it's in the villa. The diamond could be anywhere and a few hours is not enough to search and find it. That is the reason why I wanted you to have the villa for yourself. It would give us the time to search for it ourselves," Ken explained.
Zayla felt hot in her stomach. She did not know how to reveal the second problem but somehow, she just had to. She did not have a choice.
"There is another problem."
Her father was already annoyed, not expecting a basket full of problems early in the morning, retorting in annoyance, "What is that?"
Zayla moved from the double seater couch she sat on to the single one to create a distance between her and her father before she revealed,
"I used your money to pay for the deposit and he is demanding his balance. I thought he would find the diamonds and we could make all the expenses from there."
"You what?" Ken's expression darkened dangerously.
That was the money he expected to use for his daily upkeep until they made headway since Robin had become stingy towards him, only caring about Zayla and she what?
When her dad got close, she stood up and increased the distance before his hand could come into contact with any part of her body.
"I'm sorry Dad but he threatened to inform the press if I don't top up his money."
"You, foolish child," Ken vented, not knowing whether a part of his daughter's brain was destroyed before she came out of her mother's womb.
None of their plans succeeded so far and she was causing him more troubles. "How could you do such a thing without informing me first?"
"I wanted to surprise you but I'm sorry. I am," Zayla had tears in her eyes while trying to explain the situation to him.
Ken sank into the chair. His daughter still had Robin and he was rich. They had to find a way to get the money from him since it was his fault. All this would not have happened if he had just given the villa to Zayla instead of Sabrina.
"What do we do now?" He asked Zayla, expecting her to think of a way to extort money from Robin but she looked at him cluelessly,
"I don't know Dad, I don't know."
Ken smiled a little. It was too early to suggest it to her.
"First of all, buy more time while we think of a way."
Zayla agreed, feeling relieved that her father had calmed down, and called the thief again on the phone, saying,
"I will pay you the balance in two weeks."
"No. Two weeks is too much. Do you know how battered I am?" The man complained painfully from the end of the line.
Walking was even a problem for him because of how ruthless those maids were.
"Alright. Give me a week to pay your money," Zayla said with resolve but the Thief warned her sternly,
"If you add a day to it, I will sell the story to the press, get my money, and run away."
Zayla was gritting her teeth when she hung up the phone. The thief already planned a way to destroy her if he did not get the money.
