Chapter 140 – understanding the playboy’s mind
A week later0
Daniel arrived at Cobby's mansion, ten minutes before time. When he knocked on the door and asked to see Lizzy, one of the maids went to call her.
Daniel had been able to set the camera in Sabrina's office so Robin was happy and he was also free to pursue his interest.
After the party, things have been calm with Robin seeing Sabrina every morning and evening. He knew that by now, Mara would have known that Sabrina was alive and they were still working on tracking her notorious hacker.
Robin added it to his responsibility to carry a bouquet of fresh roses along every morning when he went to see Sabrina. Sometimes, he would add gifts and they now had a causal relationship.
Very soon, he would arrive to check on Sabrina so Daniel wanted to leave before he got there, so he doesn't suddenly give him a job.
With Daniel mentioning that he was going to cook dinner for Lizzy, she dressed in one of her simple designs. An off-shoulder blouse and a lavender pleated skirt with three inches of sandals.
Her handbag matched her shoe perfectly with her hair being let down. Her makeup was simple but to Daniel, she was looking like a goddess and he could not keep his eyes off her.
"Lizzy, the heavens favored you with so much beauty, I feel cheated," Daniel praised her and she beamed shyly.
Daniel stretched his hand towards her and she took it while they walked to his car. He opened the door for Lizzy when Devin spoke from the entrance of the mansion
,
"You better not hurt her or I will make sure you pay."
Devin was not happy with this arrangement, only hoping that it would fail. His sister deserves someone better than Daniel.
Daniel was surprised to see him at the mansion, thinking he had returned to his penthouse.
"You know what Devin, one day, your sister would be my wife and she would love me more than she ever loved you," Daniel said with confidence.
With someone like Lizzy, he would have all the patience in the world to court her and by the time he was done, they would both be in so much love that nothing would break them apart.
"I wait to see that day," Devin responded daringly. He already knew that one of Daniel's old flings would just show up and that would be when Lizzy would get upset and stop seeing him.
Whereas he had no idea that Daniel never sent any of his flings to his house before.
While on the journey, they had a little chit-chat. "So have you been in a relationship before?" Daniel asked Lizzy and she shook her head,
"No. I've been too busy."
Daniel was glad there was no competition; if not, he would have been forced to behave like Robin and torment her every day with his presence.
"I've never been in a relationship either."
"But you have experience with women," Lizzy pointed out, silently informing him that she did not trust him fully.
Daniel could understand the reason for her allegation and he was not upset by it. Whereas since he had good intentions towards her, he never wanted to keep secrets from her.
From what he learned from his parents, the only thing that destroyed relationships was secrets.
"If you talk about giving them money to do anything I want, then yes."
Lizzy stole a glance at him and he was indeed serious with his words. She pointed out again, "You are so blunt."
Daniel frowned a little and asked her, "Tell me, Lizzy, would you like me to be honest with you or do you want me to be the perfect gentleman and lie to you?"
Lizzy went quiet for a while, thinking about how she made him misunderstand her statement, thereby explaining, "I said you were blunt; didn't say you were bad."
Daniel bobbed his head in agreement before asking again, "Do you know how to cook?"
If she didn't know how to cook, then things would be easy for him but if she did, then he would have to work harder since it was difficult to please a person in something they knew how to do very well.
"Yes, but not as much as Sabrina. There are lots of maids so I hardly cook. Our mom loved to cook and Sabrina learned from her. I learned from Sabrina when she was trying to learn it to impress Robin."
Lizzy suddenly felt guilty for talking about her sister's love for Robin, she regretted it, "I've said too much."
Devin was saddened that she treated him as a friend of Robin and not her friend, being confident that if it was somebody else, Lizzy would not be feeling sorry talking about Sabrina and Robin. He thought to set things right.
"Lizzy, Robin is my best friend but it doesn't mean that I support everything he does."
Lizzy rolled her eyes, not believing those words. "Then why don't you ever advise him?" She asked seriously.
Daniel thought about the times he advised Robin against Zayla and responded curtly, "Advice is one thing. Taking it is another."
"So, he doesn't take your advice," Lizzy retorted with certainty, understanding that Daniel was not like Robin, though they were best friends.
"Glad you caught it but now, he regrets it and that is good," Daniel clarified, so she'd not think that Robin was pretending to be good around his ex-wife.
"Birds of the same feather flock together," Lizzy absent-mindedly responded, Daniel shook his head.
He had a lot in common with Robin, for which reason they were best friends but there were also dissimilarities between them.
They also womanized for different reasons. "Lizzy, I'm a man with a high level of sexual need. I never found a girl who I thought I should settle down with." Daniel paused and stole a glance at her before focusing back on the road.
"They all liked money so what do you expect me to do? Is it wrong to give them what they want while they give me what I want?"
