Chapter 147 – the mystery of the villa
There was a long pause, as Cecilia contemplated on if he should tell Robin when there was an evil woman in his life. 2
However, she also knew that Robin was wise, beginning from when he gave the villa to Sabrina instead of Zayla, though he claimed to hate Sabrina.
Even in hate, if he could keep his sense of reasoning, even after believing that the wrong person saved his life, then the old woman could conclude that he was indeed wise.
Also, the company has been flourishing well, which means that Robin had not allowed Zayla into its management.
That was another show of wisdom, keeping women away from the business. After having a firm hold on this analysis, Cecilia concluded that it was right to let him know, saying truthfully,
"Grandson, your father told me before he died that there was a treasure in the villa but I don't know what it is."
If there was indeed a treasure, Robin concluded that the diamonds indeed existed and since his grandmother still did not know, then it remained untouched. Robin could already see a brighter future for the Jewel family.
"Is Sabrina aware? If she was, she would not have sold it to you right?"
Robin intentionally used the word sold, so that his grandmother would correct him if he was wrong. He did not believe that Sabrina could sell the villa but if she indeed gifted it to Cecilia, then it means that she took nothing for alimony after the divorce, which pricked Robin's conscience.
"What do you mean sell? She gave it to me as a birthday gift and yes, your father told her to not allow any woman to lay hands on it."
"He made her promise that should you never change, and she wants a divorce, she should take the villa so that the next woman you marry, would not lay hands on the treasures inside."
Robin smiled bitterly and was flung with guilt. Sabrina was a woman he did not deserve. After enduring his torture for three years, she left with nothing. Then the villa, she gave it to Cecilia, which indirectly meant that she gave it back to Robin.
Cecilia was more like a caretaker because she was old and did not have any use for it. Robin was the only surviving grandson, which meant that he was going to inherit it back when his grandmother was no more.
After analyzing everything, he felt even more guilty, not knowing where to start in apologizing to Sabrina.
"I have lived in that villa for over five years, before and after my father died and I saw nothing that looked like treasures," he stated and the old woman agreed.
Even she had not seen anything of that sort but if her son, Ronald Jewel said it was there, then it was indeed there because the man never lied.
"Sabrina did not see anything like that either. She mentioned that perhaps he just wanted her to take good care of it," Cecilia remembered, adding to Robin's Impasse.
"Thank you for telling me all this," Robin said but Cecilia was confused, feeling that he wanted to give up on the search since she was also interested in knowing what her late son hid in that villa as a treasure.
"Grandson, do you want the villa back? I can give it to you. I was told that you came there. I won't be surprised that you miss it because of all the memories there."
Hearing his grandmother's words, a tear dropped from Robin's eyes once again, feeling undeserving of everything. His grandmother thought he was there because he missed the memories in the villa, not knowing that he was there because of the treasure.
"Grandma, I don't want the villa. I was just going to see if what Zayla said was true," Robin put it in another way to make himself feel better since he could not lie to his grandmother.
The only thing he kept lying about himself and others for years was his feelings for Sabrina but for other things, he would not hesitate to spill the truth.
Cecilia thought carefully since she wanted to end this whole thing about the villa and asked,
"Did you ever go to your father's room after he died?"
If anyone would hide something, it must be at the place where they had their private time. Ronald's bedroom was the only place that no one entered without his permission. Even his study was open to a few like Robin and Sabrina.
"No. I was feeling too guilty to do that."
Robin did not think he would even remember what his father's room looked like since they spoke more in the study than in his bedroom.
Cecilia stood up for the first time since Robin arrived. She walked slowly up the stairs to her room and returned soon after with two sets of keys.
"These are the keys to your father's room. There is a hidden door in the closet. It opens into his secret archive," she said, giving him a hint of where to find what he was looking for but Robin felt so terrible, he could not accept it.
"Grandma, I don't want to go there."
The old woman smiled because Robin passed the test. Throughout their conversation, she observed him keenly and was happy for his honesty through it all.
She also saw the guilt and regret in his eyes. The fact that he accepted his mistakes but did not know how to correct them because the other woman was pregnant.
She could also understand that as an only child, Robin felt lonely and craved a family, for which reason he could not let Zayla go to fight for Sabrina.
However, his grandmother was sure that after visiting the villa, he would find the answer to every question in his heart.
"Grandson, your father kept something for you there. They were his last written words before he died. He told me to give it to you if you ever have a change of heart. I think that is the treasure you are looking for."
