Chapter 148 – The letter in the archive

Robin did not know what to expect but his countenance was already terrible when he drove back to the villa. 2

The security did not stop him this time, as his grandmother already called them when he left the old villa after taking the keys.

When he entered the living room, the maids were very afraid since none of the bosses had been in the villa for over a month now, after the madam of the house moved out.

"Welcome, Mr. Jewel," the chief maid greeted, partly afraid of Robin's dark countenance.

Robin looked around and everything was just the way it was when he left that morning with Zayla.

"Thank you, Margaret. I came to check on a few things," Robin said and headed upstairs to his father's room.

He took a step back after opening the door when his face was covered in cobwebs.

"Margaret!" He yelled from upstairs after switching on the lights and removing the lines of cobwebs on his face.

Margaret was scared and ran to meet him. She was a middle-aged woman but very active. She asked,

"Sir, is there a problem?"

Robin was furious and raged, "Why doesn't anyone clean this room?"

He forgot that no one had the keys and he was the one who opened the door. Margaret was tongue-tied before saying,

"Old Mr. Jewel, before he died, told us all to never come here. Only Madam used to clean this room herself."

Indeed. Even if his father would not allow anyone into his room, Sabrina would always be an exception. "Give me a sweeping brush."

Margaret went to get the sweeping brush but was reluctant to give it to him. "Sir, I can do it for you."

She was not expecting her arrogant boss to extend his hand to take the sweeping brush from her. "No. You can go," Robin refused.

If his father never allowed anyone here, then why should he? Also, if Sabrina used to clean, then why shouldn't he?

Robin did not remember the last time he used the sweeping brush but was proud of himself an hour after cleaning his late father's room. Something that would take a normal person ten to fifteen minutes.

He went into the closet where his father's clothes still were, thinking about giving them out to charity but then again, deciding to ask Sabrina what to do with them since she knew his father better. His father was never coming back.

Then he went into the closet and indeed saw a small door. Using the other key, it opened and indeed there was a secret archive.

Robin was amazed that his father had something like that. No one would even think about it and it was no wonder no one knew about any treasure.

Meanwhile, there was just a black briefcase in there with a name written boldly on a white A5 sheet and pasted on it.

'ROBIN.'

Robin wanted to take it to the penthouse but decided to at least open it and see. As he did, there was an envelope with the caption,

'READ ME FIRST.'

Robin wanted to open the other items in the briefcase first but with that bold inscription on the DL envelope, he held back.

Everything was written in his father's handwriting, the same as the long letter in the envelope. When he opened it, his eyes blurred with tears as he read,

'Robin, if you are reading this, then you changed your ways. It was all I ever hoped for you because of how much I love you.'

'I don't blame you for how you turned out. It was because you could not contain the loss of your mother. For a long time, you kept looking for comfort in women to soothe that pain, and as your father, I understand you better than anyone, though you sort solace in the wrong places.'

Reading about his mother, Robin broke down completely. He was so young when she died and being so close to her before then, he did not know how to get over the pain as a young boy of nine years.

His father was busy with the company by then and Robin had a way of keeping it all in when he was dying slowly.

His grandmother was there but Robin never opened up to her. It was difficult for him to understand that a good woman like her mother could just die like that. Robin continued to shed tears while reading the letter.

'I'm glad that you changed and whatever brought the change, let it remain. Since you are now the son I should be proud of in my grave, I thought to let you know the secret things of your life.'

Robin quickly wiped his tears at this part. The secrets were what he was looking for.

'Inside this briefcase are your health records, together with that of your mystery donor. You always wanted to know and I always wanted to tell you but she forbade me from doing so, as young as she was, for reasons, she would not tell me. This is a woman who loved you since she was eleven.'

Robin was confused since he already knew that Zayla was the one who saved him. He felt he had wasted his time but something prompted him to finish reading the letter.

'Handle this information wisely because telling you this, I have broken her trust and that of her parents. There is also a family treasure, passed down over the years, the reason why Jewel incorporated can never go down.'

Robin took a deep breath, wishing he had not been so careless with his sex life in the past. He would have asked his father a lot of questions but all he had was a long-handwritten letter.

'However, I don't think that treasure is worth your life so I decided to give them to the woman who gave you life when the doctors said you had just two days to live if we did not get a donor.'
