Chapter 54 - Where does Martin come in in all this?
Robin was beginning to have a headache from all the information pouring into his mind simultaneously. Daniel continued to explain seriously, "Coks Mines was flourishing but was suddenly declared bankrupt. I don't know if you have the documents."1
"I think I do but I don't like doing business with Companies that do not pull up much effort," Robin said seriously. He remembered at the time that he did not hesitate to sign it off when they wanted to end the partnership. Dying companies were like dead weight and could pull the strong companies back. For Robin, they were no, no.
"Well, a few months after you signed off to end the partnership? Coks Mines died and JC Minerals rose in its stead," Daniel revealed again. This time, he took the iPad from Robin and flipped back to where all the proof lay. It seemed to Robin that the company had not died as the CEO had declared but he was not going to take them on.
"So, Devin, or whatever his name is, bought Coks Mines, invested in it, and gave birth to JC Minerals?" Robin asked in interest. He never regretted being an only child until now. Somehow, Devin's ways have dug a hole in his heart, longing to be filled by family.
"Yes, and just so you know, Coks Mines was Cobby and Kate, and JC Minerals was James and Cage. JC Clothing was originally, Cage clothing."
"Cage clothing died," Robin recalled vividly and said aloud but Daniel shook his head again,
"No, it was rebranded secretly."
For the first time, Robin felt like a fool for how this family played their cards so well. "Why?" He asked seriously.
"It seems to me that father loved the foster child as his own, the foster child loved his half-sisters, Sabrina and Lizzy so much and wanted to secure their future away from any partnership.
All this while, father and son hated you so much, they were preparing the way for their beloved Sabrina, even when she was still married to you. Their bond is very tight and Devin would kill for Sabrina or Lizzy," Daniel explained in detail.
Robin was surprised at all the revelations before him. No wonder Sabrina was confident. She did not need Robin to survive. She was only there because of the love she had for him but something was still missing from the puzzle so Robin asked,
"Then why did Devin allow her to marry me?"
"Because it was his foster father's decision. The fella does not only love his foster father but also respects him to the max. Even if he does not like the idea, for as long as Cobby says it, he would take a step back. They never allow the lines of foster and half into their world. To them, it does not exist and they were all born from the same mother and father."
Robin could not help but admit that the family bond was a strong one that he underestimated. Somehow, he wished to have a family like this in the future. But then again, was it going to be with Zayla? Robin did not think so. He tries his best to make it work but she always makes it difficult for him.
Now that he already lost Sabrina, how could he achieve such a family? At the thought of Sabrina, he recalled another missing part of the puzzle and asked,
"Where does Martin stand in all these?"
Daniel let out a deep breath, stood up, and went to pour himself and Robin a glass of fruit juice each. After offering the glass of juice to Robin, he gulped down his but Robin dropped his on the side table without a sip. Daniel continued with the revelations.
"I almost forgot about the mysterious guy. Martin Dane started the same school as Devin after his sister, then five or six years of age, tried to kill little Sabrina."
"How?" Robin had a scowl on his face and also felt strangely pained at the information.
"The little Mara was so obsessed with her brother, she never wanted him to like anyone except her. However, anytime the driver would pick her up from school, Martin would be in the car, though he went to a different school. He did so to just catch a glimpse of Sabrina who was always with Devin and Lizzy. It got worse when Martin bought a doll with his savings. Mind you, he was just ten."
Robin was listening with all attentiveness as if he was in a classroom listening to his teacher. Daniel explained continuously, "Martin bought the doll for Sabrina and since he could not give it to her directly, he dropped it in Devin's backpack.
Devin did not know who dropped the doll in his backpack and wanted to throw it away but little six years old Sabrina saw and loved the doll so he gave it to her. Mara knew that her brother bought the doll for Sabrina and tried to take it from her. The two fought and Sabrina won so when given detention, she set the room on fire and escaped."
Robin was too shocked at the revelation that he could not utter a word. How in the world could a six- or five-year-old be so wicked? Daniel continued to tell the story nonetheless.
"Little Mara also told the firefighters that there was nobody in the room where the fire was burning but Devin's bond for his sister was so strong. He insisted that Sabrina was in the room and wanted to go and rescue her before the firefighters forced the door open to see her lying unconscious on the floor from inhaling so much smoke. For that reason, Devin searched for Mara to take revenge against her but never found her."
Daniel chuckled and added, "You know that he slapped Zayla and forced her to take down the news about Sabrina, right?"
"He did?" Robin asked seriously before he added, "Zayla said it but I never believed her because there was no proof. You told me there was none," Robin glared at Daniel in annoyance.
"Indeed, everything was erased but the cleaner he paid to tell no one that he was in the ladies' washroom was one of my spies too. I just did not tell you because Zayla deserved it," Daniel said nonchalantly. Robin was shaking his head in all directions, not believing that Daniel lied to him.
