Chapter 57 – The surprise
Sabrina had a restful weekend at her father's house and Devin had even spent the weekend there as well. Their father's mansion gave them a real feeling of rest because of all the maids. Whereas, Devin would never allow a maid into his penthouse since he was mostly there alone. 2
Sabrina was amazed by all the doting she enjoyed both from her father, Lizzy, and the maids. At the mansion, Devin did not have to cook and everyone had a good rest. The publicity given to Sabrina, though with the attachment of being Robin's ex-wife, did a lot of good for them so Monday was very busy and she was well prepared for it.
Arriving at the office, there was a bouquet waiting on her desk. She already knew it was from Martin and smiled. Just as she was about to send a text message to thank him, she heard a knock on the door and her head of Sales and Marketing manager barged in with excitement.
Not everyone was allowed to attend the Borough President's birthday party since it was a private event for which no other staff could attend. Martin had also only gotten the opportunity through Devin.
"Thank you, Miss James, the phone lines have not stopped ringing since I reported to work this morning. Do you intend to visit the mines anytime soon?" She asked. Everyone could tell that they were going to be busy for the next couple of weeks if not months. Now that their company name was everywhere, it also attracted more affluent clients.
"No, but we are sure to have a lot of new stock soon," Sabrina said with certainty before adding, "I already arranged for new designs." She sat down, turned on her laptop, and said, "Give me thirty minutes and I will send them to you. Also, as soon as I receive the finished product, I will send them to you."
Sabrina wanted to check everything going out personally, to not be hit by unwanted surprises. Whereas, her Sales and marketing Manager, Adelaide was eager to sell them, to add to her report for the month. Since they were in the last quarter of the year, everyone and businesses everywhere were getting more and more busy.
"Your presence is a blessing. Mr. Jewel lost a gem. You are prettier and more hardworking than that baby mama of his," Adelaide analyzed. Sabrina frowned. She might not like Zayla but she also did not like to speak negative things about people behind their back. If she had a problem with someone, she would say it to their faces.
"That is his fiancé, Adelaide," Sabrina retorted in a warning tone but Adelaide did not seem to care, going on to say,
"Whatever, I don't like her but I know it's none of my business. You are here for us and that is a great achievement."
Well, with the media, it became an honor to work with JC Minerals. Adelaide had yet to tell Sabrina about how all the other staff members were celebrating her name including the ones, who did not like the fact that she took over from Lizzy, who was equally hardworking, when the door barged open and Devin stood there.
"Brina, are you alright?" He looked disturbed which got Sabrina confused.
Adelaide smiled and greeted, "good morning, Mr. Cage." Devin's over protectiveness of his sisters was not unknown to everyone who worked at both JC Clothing and Minerals.
"Good morning, Adelaide. Sorry to interrupt but I need to have a word with my sister," Devin said politely, hinting that they needed to be excused. Adelaide smiled and responded,
"I was just leaving."
As soon as she stepped out, Devin was about to speak, when Martin stepped in. The two men looked so worried, Sabrina was so disturbed and was eager to know what was ailing them. Before she asked, Martin complained,
"Sabrina, I've been worried. Is everything alright? I didn't hear from you after the delivery and when I called, you were not answering."
Sabrina shook her head at the fact that she was being treated like a little kid. "Chill guys, I got in not long ago with Dad but there was already a pile of work before Adelaide came in so why are you both here? If it was just about my safety, you would have called Dad to check on me," she glanced suspiciously between the two men dressed in different shades of suit.
"You are right. We have a surprise for you," Devin announced. Sabrina's brows raised with a slight excitement before she asked,
"And what is that?"
"If you guess it right, then we will show it to you now but if wrong, then you'll have to wait until evening," Devin replied, Sabrina was puzzled since she was not good with the guessing games.
"I honestly can't think of anything right now. Unless you want to buy jewelry for your new girlfriend," she teased Devin, who frowned at her,
"You know I haven't found one yet and Martin has never been on a real date."
"I guess I would have to wait to see it in the evening. I'm not good at guessing," Sabrina gave up since she could not think of anything at that moment that made both men so thrilled.
"Matilda is safe," both men said in unison.
Sabrina shook her head since it was so fast. She was not expecting it so soon and her heart was already jumping in her chest. "No, I want to see her now. Where is she?"
"You have work to do, my sweet little sister. You can see her after work at my penthouse. It took just an hour for them to realize that she was not at their mansion and have been on the lookout for her secretly so we are working on clearing her name so her father won't be ashamed of her being in the public's eye," Devin explained.
Sabrina went around to hug her brother. "Thank you, Devin."
Devin pulled away and smiled before revealing, "Seventy percent of the work was done by Martin."
Sabrina turned to Martin and said with gratitude, "Martin, thank you very much."
Martin smiled mischievously before saying, "You could pay me with a real date at a restaurant of my choice."
