Chapter 61 – Devin’s trust for Martin
Sabrina was curious about what Devin wanted to tell Tilda since they were not friends for as long as she knew, and he wanted to speak to her in private too. Sabrina could not help being suspicious, thereby saying, 1
"I want to hear it too."
Devin stiffened slightly. He knew that Sabrina would not just believe him blindly when it involved Matilda but still could not help but try. He relaxed and smiled,
"Chill, Brina, since she would be staying home a lot, I just want to show her the different ways of entertainment in this penthouse."
Sabrina found his excuse odd but decided to allow the matter to rest for now. She could still find out from Tilda later.
"Alright. Please don't keep me waiting."
Matilda stood up and followed Devin to the kitchen. He closed the door before asking, "Matilda, what do you know about Martin?"
Matilda smiled. She thought it was something serious since she also did not believe his excuse of showing her entertainment places in the penthouse.
"I know that he has an obsessed sister who might hurt Sabrina if the two are dating each other," Matilda revealed.
Devin frowned. He wondered where people were getting this weird information including his father.
"Martin doesn't have a sister, do you understand?"
"He does, I…" Matilda wanted to give him the details but Devin trusted Martin. He said he did not have a sibling and both of his parents died. He looked Matilda in the eyes and said seriously,
"Matilda, I allowed you here because of my sister but I don't want you to cause problems for us. I won't like you saying those things about my best friend."
Matilda swallowed everything else she wanted to say before. She had to agree that indeed, this was Devin's house and she had to play by his rules. He was also the one to clear her name, for which reason she nodded and responded,
"Sure, it's your house, so it's your rules."
Devin noticed that her temperament looked saddened and decided to cheer her up.
"Thank you and I will get you some clothes tomorrow. You know we can be very good friends, right?" He smiled and added, "I mean, very good friends," he said in a lower voice.
Matilda smiled but before she could respond, a desperate voice interrupted them,
"Devin!"
Sabrina called out from the dining room.
"Coming, sis," Devin looked at Tilda again, and smiled before saying,
"Let's go."
Matilda sat back on her chair when Devin began to pick up the empty plates. "If you girls have finished your meal, I'm cleaning but that is all there is. I'm going to bed after that."
"Good night, Devin," Sabrina said, excited to finally have a moment alone with her best friend.
"Good night, Brina and Tilda," Devin said, cast another glance at Tilda, before he turned around and left.
"Let's go to my room. We both need to freshen up," Sabrina rose and dragged Tilda along like an excited teenager. In her room, she asked,
"So what did my brother say?"
Matilda so much wanted to tell Sabrina about Mara but thinking through what Devin said about Martin, she smiled and responded,
"He just wanted my dress size. Said he had to get me some clothes tomorrow."
"He made it sound like a secret," Sabrina said with dismay. Why would Devin ask for something like that in secret? She could not understand.
"So how have you been and what about Lizzy? What happened between you and Robin?" Matilda asked all together, awakening Sabrina's buried sadness.
"Lizzy is fine. She works with Devin now. Zayla returned and she was pregnant with Robin so I asked for a divorce."
Matilda frowned. She did not like Robin because of his womanizing behavior but thinking about Martin, she felt that Sabrina would be safer with Robin.
"Sabrina, I don't think you should have left him. You could have found ways to deal with Zayla."
"How? What are you talking about?" Sabrina asked bitterly. She could excuse Matilda's ignorance for having been locked away for a long time.
"Zayla must want Robin because of his money. Her father's business was struggling a lot. Before my issue came up, there was news about her father's mismanagement and tax frauds, which were predicted to collapse his company," Matilda revealed but Sabrina did not care anymore.
She already left and that was that. "Well, she's Robin's first love so I can't win against her."
"Oh yes you could. If you had told him all you did for him? I believe it would change his mind," Matilda said with a sad countenance.
Sabrina was very secretive. She had done so much for Robin without him knowing and Matilda was certain that that would have changed Robin's mind concerning the divorce, should he have known.
"Tilda, if a man loves you, it should be because of who you are, not for the sacrifices or anything. Everything I did for him, was from a good heart because I loved him, and since living together could not grow any love in his heart for me, it's completely useless."
Sabrina did not want to think about it. She still did not have regrets for sacrificing her life for Robin even when her father was against it. Matilda sighed, knowing that Martin was a good man but with his sister's influence, it could turn him into a monster.
"And Martin?" Matilda asked again, hoping that there wasn't anything tangible between them.
"We are fake dating. I'm pregnant with Robin and…"
"He doesn't know that you left with his seed and you are using Martin to cover it up as if he was the father or the one who planted the seed?" Matilda cut her off and asked, Sabrina smiled bitterly again and nodded in the affirmative.
Matilda shook her head, disappointment filling her heart. She knew that Robin's only weakness was women. Aside from that, he was a good man and very generous.
"Why didn't you tell Robin that you were pregnant for him?" She asked seriously, knowing that that could have changed a lot of things between them.
