Chapter 93 – Sabrina’s illness
Daniel was composed, and before he responded, Lizzy said seriously, "Devin, he came for business."1
Devin stared at Daniel with fury and shook his head. He did not believe that Daniel was there for business. Playboys were very smart and could come up with so many strategies.
"Don't fall for it. He came to see you," Devin said to Lizzy. Daniel saw the change in Lizzy's expression and quickly asked,
"Yes, I came to see her to design a dress for my girlfriend, so what is your fucking problem?"
Hearing him mention that he was buying the dress for his girlfriend, Devin relaxed a little but was soon uncomfortable and threatened,
"If I find out that you have ulterior motives, you will need surgery to fix your pretty face."
Daniel laughed and mocked, "I never thought I was so handsome enough to be called pretty. For some reason, I would have said you were gay, but you look like a straight guy. Anyway, what did I do to you?"
"You are a friend of Robin, and that is why I hate you," Devin snarled, and Daniel shook his head. He was not going to deny Robin for anything in the world but only felt that Daniel was being childish and illogical.
"Then you are being unreasonable, and what if I like your sister? Will you marry her?" Daniel said in a taunting tone. Indeed, Devin was not going to marry any of his sisters, and they were all past twenty. One was single, and the other one was divorced.
Daniel's question seemed to have hit Devin's sore spot as he analyzed everything Daniel said and yelled,
"Get out!"
Daniel maintained his calm and remarked, "I was already on my way out, but you are blocking my path."
Devin moved away and gritted his teeth while he looked at Lizzy, "What did he want?" He asked after Daniel left.
"A dress for his girlfriend to use for the party," Lizzy explained, but Devin was still feeling uneasy about the whole thing and asked again,
"Has he made payment?"
"Hundred percent, and he wants it delivered by me, so he added some extra," Lizzy explained in detail. An idea popped into Devin's mind, and he smiled, saying,
"I would like to see the dress when it's ready."
"Sure," Lizzy agreed when Devin walked closer and said,
"I wanted to talk to you about some new clients."
"Okay, sit and let's talk," Lizzy gazed at the chair Daniel stood from a while ago.
In the middle of their discussion, Devin's phone rang, and seeing the caller ID to be Sabrina, he excused himself and answered it.
"Sabrina, are you alright?" Devin asked worriedly.
"No. I'm feeling some strange pains, so I want to go to the hospital," Sabrina said weakly. Devin was more disturbed.
Sabrina hardly fell sick and hardly complained. Even when told to go for a checkup, she was always the one brushing it away.
"But your next antenatal appointment is in a few days, right?" Devin asked seriously, wondering why she was feeling that way all of a sudden.
"Right but I don't want to wait till then. What if it turns out to be something serious and I'm not able to make it to the party? I don't want to disappoint Matilda," Sabrina said, sounding tired and pained.
It was as if going to the hospital was more because of Matilda than the pains she was feeling. Sabrina was back to her usual selfless self. It was only when she married Robin, that she put him above everyone else.
"Alright, I will come and take you to the hospital." Devin was already up on his feet when Sabrina countered,
"I was going to tell you that I am calling Martin to go with me. Just in case some pictures are taken again."
She realized this morning, a little bump which was not visible in the dresses she wore, and knew that very soon, it would grow bigger.
The more she was seen in public with Martin, the easier it would be for people to believe he was the father of her child
"Alright, call him but if he's busy, I will go with you. I don't care what anyone thinks or says, okay?" Devin said seriously.
His sister's life mattered to him more than any cover she wanted to maintain.
"Okay," Sabrina agreed.
Devin was back to his meeting with Lizzy when Sabrina called again "Devin, "he's not answering. I guess he's busy."
"Then I'm coming right now." He turned to Lizzy and said, "I have to take Sabrina to the hospital so please take care of everything."
"Alright let me know how it goes," Lizzy agreed and spoke. If it got serious, she was sure to join them at the hospital when her father picked her up after work.
At Robin's office, he was in a very important meeting when Daniel called. At first, he wanted to ignore him due to the intensity of the meeting but then again, Daniel's calls were always important.
"Excuse me, gentlemen, I will take this call," he said and answered the phone.
"Daniel, I'm in a meeting. Can it wait?" Robin asked solemnly but was stricken with anxiety at Daniel's direct response,
"I just got information that Sabrina is ill and on her way to the hospital."
"What? Which one?" Robin panicked. He was also disturbed.
"Her usual one since it's close to her office," Daniel revealed.
There was nothing more important to Robin at this moment than Sabrina, who hardly falls sick, to be so sick that she had to be rushed to the hospital. Also, she was pregnant.
"Thank you for telling me." Robin hangs up, looks at the executives and says, "I'm sorry, I have an emergency. I will tell Aria to reschedule this meeting."
While the executives wallowed in confusion for being left in the middle of a meeting after coming from afar, Robin ran out of the office as if he was being chased by a lion.
