Hostage, Let Go Of The Criminal!

The man's voice sounded weak and helpless. 

Slowly, ever so slowly, the captain of the 4th division turned his head over. 

There was a girl in his line of vision. She was wearing a light brown dress and a beige sweater. Her face was tiny, and her eyes were bright like stars. There was a smile tugging at the corner of her lips, and she seemed like she was saying something, but he could not hear well because he was too far away.

It was a beautiful face. It was definitely the most perfect face he had seen, as her face had a magic power that made people unable to peel their eyes away from her.

People always said that a beauty could do no wrong, but…

"Help!"

The man shouted again.

The little girl's dress fluttered in tandem with her movements, and she looked just like a fairy under the sunlight.

The captain of the 4th division felt that all this was too good to be true, but that was only if he could ignore the fire extinguisher in the girl's hand.

He had never seen a girl fight like the girl in front of him before, not to mention that the person she was hitting was the mastermind behind the Equinox Flower case.

"Duang!" 

The man yelped in pain once again. 

Men only wept when they were grieving deeply. It occurred to the captain of the 4th division that Matthew must be in a lot of pain, or he would not be crying like a kid right now.

He took a few steps forward in an attempt to put him out of his misery, and it was only then that he heard what the girl was saying. 

"Did your mom not teach you that you can rob ten banks but you should never take a person's milk tea away?"

The captain of the 4th division was speechless. It was only now that he realized the reason she was so angry at Matthew was that he had snatched her milk tea. That was why she had chased him? Fu Zhi continued to smash the fire extinguisher against Matthew again and again. Blood lined Matthew's lips, and he remembered the captain of the International Crimes Unit, who he used to laugh at in the past.

"Daddy, save me…" He sobbed.

'It hurts! It hurts so much!' 

The captain of the 4th division took a look at his face, which had swollen beyond recognition, and let out a sigh. He peeled his eyes away and went forward to stop Fu Zhi. "Erm, little girl… Oh no, lady… Take it easy. It's against the law to kill someone, so why don't you put down the weapon in your hand first and let us talk about it?" 

Fu Zhi was stunned. She looked at the man in front of her silently. 

The captain of the 4th division did not know why, but he suddenly felt a chill down his spine. Just as he thought that Fu Zhi was not going to say something, Fu Zhi parted her mouth and said, "Talk? Are you going to talk with me, or is he going to talk with me?"

The captain of the 4th division was stumped. He had a feeling that Fu Zhi was asking who was going to die instead of who was going to talk with her. He instinctively took a step back and said, "Of course I'm not talking about me. I mean, he's the worst criminal that's ever existed in history and he deserves to die! You are the hero of the people and the beacon of the nation. If you really want to teach him a lesson, go for it. I will help you keep an eye on the surroundings!"

Matthew, who was lying on the floor, lifted his arm to grab the leg of the captain of the 4th division. "Take, take… Take me away. Please, I'm begging you. I… I surrender to the police!"

Under Fu Zhi's intense gaze, the captain of the 4th division kicked Matthew away.

"Well, you shouldn't have taken her milk tea in the first place. It's too late to regret it now," he said. 

For a moment, nobody dared to go up to Fu Zhi. All of them stood and watched until the police team from Myanmar's police station arrived.

All the members of the International Crimes Unite had arrived at the scene. They all surrounded Fu Zhi and Matthew in a circle, so nobody could see what was going on in the middle.

The sheriff ran all the way up to them and asked, his voice thick with anxiety, "How did it go? Is everything okay?"

The captain of the 5th division replied expressionlessly, "I think it's about time."

When he saw that the sheriff looked confused, he explained again. "If you had come a few minutes later, you would only have found a corpse."

'That means there is still hope!' The sheriff's eyes glowed.

However, there was one thing that he did not understand. Why were all of them standing there instead of helping her? Was Matthew holding her hostage?

The sheriff let out a long sigh of relief. Then, he turned around and barked out his order. "Everyone get into position! Snipers, get ready! Where is the negotiation cadre? We have to do everything we can to keep the hostage safe!"

The captain of the 4th division and the captain of the 5th division looked at each other. They opened their mouths, wanting to say something, but no words could come out of their throats.

After all, they felt that they indeed needed the negotiation cadre right now. 

After everyone got into their respective positions, the negotiator put on a bulletproof vest and walked forward. The sheriff did not want to incite Matthew, so he asked him to approach him slowly. However, the sheriff waited with bated breath for a long while, yet he did not hear the negotiator say anything. Just as he was wondering if he should send in more help, the negotiator shouted through the loudspeaker, "Hey!! Hostage! What are you doing? Let go of the criminal!" 

The sheriff was stunned. Before he could come around to his senses, the negotiator shouted again. "I said, stop beating him! He's going to die if you don't stop beating him now! We'll give you anything you want, hostage! Your name is Fu Zhi, right? Release the criminal right now! Let Matthew go!

"Fu Zhi! Do you hear me, Fu Zh? Let me tell you something. You're surrounded by snipers right now, so stop beating him! Think about your parents and friends. If you don't stop now, we will have no choice but to shoot Matthew! We've prepared everything for him: a car, water, a medical kit. We're going to let bygones be bygones, so release him now!" 

The sheriff still could not come around to his senses.

'What the hell is happening?'

With that thought in his mind, he charged into the crowd. However, since none of the members of the International Crimes Unit were letting him through, it took him quite a long while to get there and see that Fu Zhi was holding Matthew hostage. 

He did not know where Fu Zhi had gotten the rope, but she had tied it around Matthew's body, and he looked just like a giant ball right now. 

Then, Fu Zhi picked Matthew up from the ground, and as people watched on in shock, she threw him in the direction of the negotiator. 

The negotiator jumped back, and Matthew landed heavily on the ground with a meaty smack.

The sheriff did not know what he should say right now.

Fu Zhi threw the fire extinguisher back into the police car and slammed the trunk shut. 

The negotiator swallowed hard. He inched his way toward Matthew and put his finger below his nose. Then, he nodded at everyone else and said, "He's still alive. Quick, take him to the hospital."

Although he was a criminal and he had killed a lot of people, he needed to be brought to justice. 

The sheriff took two steps forward and stopped Fu Zhi from getting back in the car.

"Where do you think you are going?" he asked.

"It's already noon, so I'm going back home for lunch," Fu Zhi replied.

Then, she pulled the door open, looking as if she was the rightful owner of the car.

"No. You can't leave yet." 

The sheriff pushed the door closed.

"You're the one who beat him, so you have to go back to the police station with me!"

"Why do I have to go back to the police station with you?" Fu Zhi asked. "Are you saying that I, a weak little girl who helped you guys arrest a criminal with a gun, is not allowed to defend herself with a fire extinguisher? I was just protecting myself. Does that make me a worse person than a criminal who has taken many lives?"

The sheriff was speechless.

'You were not defending yourself, you were trying to kill him!'

However, the sheriff could not speak his mind out loud. After all, Fu Zhi had indeed helped them capture Matthew. Therefore, he thought for a while before saying, "Please don't misunderstand me, Ms. Fu. I was just hoping that you could come with us to the police station because we need you to tell us about the entire apprehending process." 

"I'm not free," Fu Zhi replied.2

The sheriff was stumped once more.

Fu Zhi opened the door again, but the sheriff closed it once more. As he faced the girl's icy glare, he did not know what got into him, but by the time he realized it, the words had already left his mouth. "If you follow me back to the police station, I will buy you a strawberry slushie! For a whole year!"

Fu Zhi was stunned. She thought for a while, walked around the car, and opened the door to the passenger seat. "Let's go then."

Well, she had not changed her mind because of the strawberry slushie. It was because it was the responsibility and duty of every citizen to cooperate with the police.

The sheriff was left dumbfounded by the sudden change in her attitude.

It was 11:00 in the evening.

The police officer untied the rope around Matthew and cuffed him up. Not far away, a reporter rushed up to him and pointed the microphone at his swollen face. "Matthew, did you imagine that you'd be arrested by the police today?

"Matthew, as the mastermind behind the Equinox Flower case, why would you show up so openly on Canna Street?

"May I ask if you regret the choice you made today?"

Matthew did not know what to say.

It went without saying that he regretted his decision to come here today. He should not have shown up here. He should not have snatched Fu Zhi's strawberry slushie, and he should not have sipped it after stealing it. 

It was only now that he realized how scary a woman could become when she was angered. He was relieved that he had been killing men in the past 30 years.

Matthew opened his mouth and grabbed the deputy sheriff's hand.

"What are you doing?" The deputy sheriff looked at him with a scowl and pulled out his baton. "I'm warning you, don't try to do anything stupid! You can't get away this time!"

"No, no, no! I'm not trying to get away." Matthew sobbed as he grabbed the deputy sheriff's hand even tighter. "Please, I'm begging you, protect me at any cost. I promise I won't snatch other people's milk tea again. Please don't hand me over to that psychopath."

The deputy sheriff was stumped.

"Deputy, can you elaborate on the hero who subdued outlaw Matthew? Why did she help the police department arrest Matthew? Is she a member of the International Crimes Unit?

"Could she be one of the victims of the Equinox Flower case? Is that why she decided to step in?"

The reporter fired one question after another at the deputy sheriff.

Meanwhile, the sheriff had already taken Fu Zhi away. 

The deputy sheriff handed Matthew to the other policeman and said, "I'm sorry, but I can't disclose the information of the hero. The reason she decided to help us is… that she has been unhappy with Matthew's behavior for a long time! That's why she decided to step forward to protect the weak and apprehend Matthew!"

After saying that, the deputy sheriff ran away, as he did not know what kind of story he should make up anymore.

The people from the International Crimes Unit did not give any interviews. After they completed their mission, they went into their cars and drove away.

The captains were sitting inside the same car because they wanted to discuss something. 

"She's good at driving and she's a good fighter too. Now, the only question is whether Fu Zhi was the hacker that day or not," the captain of the 5th division said as he read through Fu Zhi's profile, which he had pulled from the database. "She's Chinese and she turned 17 years old this year. She's going to a school in a small town. After she graduates from school, she could only work at a small company, so why don't we scout her into the International Crimes Unit?"

"I agree," the captain of the 4th division added. "The salary of the International Crimes Unit is high, so unless she's a stakeholder of the Fu Corporation or the Li Corporation, it's definitely better than working for other companies out there."

He paused for a moment before adding, "If we scout her into the International Crimes Unit, we have to make sure that she will enter the 5th division. Don't let the captain of the 8th division get the long end of the stick again. Tsk, I get so annoyed when I talk about the captain of the 8th division."

Jiang Ningbei did not know what he should say. 

'How do you know she's not one of the stakeholders? Maybe she's the president. And you… If you don't like her, then don't scout her into your team. Do you know how to spell the word shameless?"

Out of the four people there, the captain of the 7th division was at the bottom of the hierarchy. He followed the majority and said, "I agree."

Then, the captain of the 5th division looked at Jiang Ningbei. "Why are you so quiet? Could you perhaps think that my suggestion is not good enough?"

Jiang Ningbei was speechless.

'Well, it seems like you're not beyond hopeless. At the very least, you still know your suggestion is not good enough,' Jiang Ningbei thought. However, he did not say it out loud. 

He cleared his throat and said, "Nope, nope. That's a brilliant idea. I'm just worried that Fu Zhi is not good enough to join your team."

The captain of the 4th division then chimed in, saying with a strange sense of confidence, "Don't worry. Leave it to me. I'm sure she will join my team after I talk to her."
