"Why? Isn't this your Gu family's issue?" Nalan Chunbo replied mockingly.

Ye Yuwei sitting at the back seat wondering why those two just couldn't talk nicely to each other.

Gu Juexi tightened his grip, unconsciously hurting Ye Yuwei. "You'd better pray that this is just between the Gu family and Wen family… Or else—"

Ye Yuwei gently massaged her arm as she angrily asked, "What's the matter with you?"

Ye Yuwei was still massaging her arm but was shocked to hear Gu Juexi's tone. This Gu Juexi was almost like the old Gu Juexi that had faced Cheng Jie years ago.

"There is no one in the Wen family manor." Nalan Chunbo said as he made a turn at the junction.

Gu Juexi leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. His hand on his thigh curled into a fist.

Somehow, Ye Yuwei knew that Gu Juexi might have already linked the investigation and concluded that he had to confront Wen Chenghao.

But it made Ye Yuwei uneasy. Normally Gu Juexi would inform her of everything but recently, he was not opening up.

The car came to a stop in front of the Wen family manor. The manor looked empty as if it had been abandoned a long time ago.

Gu Juexi got out of the vehicle. He glanced at the abandoned manor, slammed the car door shut and walked into it.

Ye Yuwei exchanged glances with Nalan Chunbo who had just got out of the car.

"What's wrong with him?" Nalan Chunbo asked while locking the car door.

"I don't know. Most probably he found out about what happened in the past," Ye Yuwei said as she tried to link the incidents together, but she just couldn't figure out the relation between them.

Gu Juexi reached out and pushed the manor's grand doors open. The dusty hall greeted him.

A flashback began running through his mind.

"Mother, why aren't you going?"

He had asked his mother that question when he was sixteen.

"Where to?"

Wen Jie who was sitting on the bed next to her son asked while gently patting his head.

"I don't have anywhere to go to, but you do. You'll have to protect your—" Wen Jie stopped and hastily changed her words. "As long as you're safe, then I'll be happy."

"I don't understand why he treats you like this."

"There's still a lot that you don't know. Your presence, and his kindness towards me once, is more than sufficient for me."

During that time, he thought his mother was talking about his father but in the end, he found out that the person his mother was referring to was actually Ye Shu.
