Ling Xin's Favor

Ling Xin's explanation of the Navigator's various feature came soon after that, and for the remainder of homeroom period (roughly an hour and a half in length), she talked to us about that topic.1

Naturally, it was boring. There was nothing to be done about that. But in all fairness, the information she gave us was actually quite necessary, as unlike Inbox and Messages, the remaining features of the Navigator were all actually quite nice to have portably.

Quick Travel, for example, utilized special Space Magic Enchantments in the air of Counterhex Academy to allow for quick teleportation between different areas. Said Enchantments also restricted casting normal magic, meaning if one wanted to teleport, this would be the only way (apart form the usual teleportation platforms).

What separated Quick Travel via the Navigator and the normal teleportation platforms, however, was the fact that it could be used from anywhere. Of course, it wasn't without its restrictions—due to certain in-air defense mechanisms, Quick Travel does not allow for traveling between different sky islands (Campuses), meaning one would still have to use the teleportation platforms for that.

In addition, Quick Travel consumed mana, so using it too much was not advised, according to Ling Xin. Right now, we could still go ahead and use it whenever we wanted, but it wasn't good to get into the habit of relying on it. After all, once the Hex got here, emergency summons would be a daily occurrence. Going into the battlefield without mana, humanity's weapon, would be suicide.

As such, Ling Xin advised to only use Quick Travel sparingly. Of course, how many students were actually going to follow that rule was a different matter. For one, I knew for a fact that Qing Yue, who was always curious and could never sit still in one place for more than a minute unless she was reading manga or watching anime or playing video games, would definitely be eager to use this whenever she could, just for the fun of it rather than convenience.

In any case, next up was the Calendar. This wasn't just the average monthly calendar that told you what day it was, however. Rather, it was exceptionally detailed, and had many built-in features such as reminders, memos, and a daily schedule to follow to see what classes to go to next and where they're located.

As organization was going to be an essential skill to us in the immediate future, since time was not an unlimited resource, this Calender tool was going to be very helpful for managing our day-to-day lives and sorting out a to-do list, especially given how portable and easily accessible it was. If I had to say, this was even easier than a phone.

Then there was the Status tab, which essentially acted as a second Student ID. The physical card copy was just the original, and could be kept safely in a location in our dorms without ever having to take it out. According to Ling Xin, 'as we would soon find out, the installation of such a feature in the Navigator would be essential to certain 'things''. She never bothered explaining what said 'things' were, of course, saying we would find out soon enough.

And finally, there was the S.O.S. tab. Ling Xin didn't speak much about this, and basically just said 'if you ever find yourself in an emergency, use this.' There was no guarantee help would come, and even if it did, there was a chance it won't succeed. It was only to be used in emergency situations, however, and any usage in a situation not classified as an 'emergency' by protocol will result in severe punishment.

Suddenly, just as she finished her explanation of the S.O.S. tab, a nice gentle tone composing a simple and short melody broadcast through the school's various P.A. speakers, and Ling Xin glanced up at the clock on the side wall of the classroom.

"Oh, would you look at that… it seems our time together is up for today," she said with a sad construction of phrasing, though her tone was anything but. In fact, she seemed happy class was over. "Well, please take a look at your schedules via the Calender system on your Navigators, and proceed to the next class. Reminder: the first digit in the room number represents the floor it's on, and the last two represent which room it is on that floor."

With that, the students in the class stood up and headed for the door. None of them really had any 'belongings', so the process was quick and convenient. The male students look slightly disheartened to be leaving, but they would be able to meet her everyday from now on (except weekends), so there was no reason to be dejected.

As I was about to head out the classroom myself with the girls, however, Ling Xin called me back, and I stopped in my tracks.

"Oh, Xuan Kai, wait!"

"… Yes?"

The other girls glanced at me, then at Ling Xin, then smiled mischievously and left, leaving me alone behind to deal with this.

What is it this time…

I shut the door so we could have some privacy, then leaned against it momentarily before casting a Sound Magic spell to erect an auditory barrier to prevent anyone on the outside from listening in.

"… Fufu, closing the door on your own?" Ling Xin giggled. "My, my… you must really be looking forward to doing some kinky things with your teacher here, hm~?"

"Cut the jokes," I said, rolling my eyes. "This better be good. I have a class to get to, and the male students currently rubbing their bodies up against this door in an attempt to listen in will give me one hell of an earful once I exit. I'm not exactly trying to relive my life at this school like my first one, being hated by everyone, so let's make this quick."

"Mm, okay," Ling Xin said, pushing her body onto mine, dangerously close. "In that case… I have a favor to ask."
