599: The Next Class

The Next Class

Soon, I arrived at the next class, labeled 'Hexdroid Training' on my schedule accessed from the Calender tab of my Navigator. Naturally, I didn't know what that was, but in any case, the room number was 101. That meant first floor, room number 1. I ended up having to use Quick Travel to get there thanks to Prince and his friends hindering me for a bit, but I managed to get here on time.0

Speaking of them…

"Bwah! Hah… hah… hah… we g0t here… in time…"

The door to the classroom suddenly burst open, right after I took my seat in the back row beside Claire and with the other girls. Into the room came Prince and his friends, totaling four people. All of them were sweating extremely hard, and panting heavily as well. It would seem they'd taken the stairs to rush down here, all the way from the third floor.

Now, that may not seem like much from an outsider's perspective, but anyone who'd been to this academy building could tell you it was no easy feat. Due to certain rooms on each floor, the height of each story of this structure was far higher than the norm found elsewhere in the world. The difference between the second and third floors weren't that big, but due to the massive auditorium on the first floor, the number of flights of stairs needed to travel from the first floor to the second was quite high.

But all that aside… upon spotting me, Prince was stunned, and pointed at me.

"Y-You! Xuan Kai! How'd you get here so fast without even panting?"

"Uh… I used Quick Travel?" I said honestly, arching an eyebrow.

"Wha- Ms. Lixia said not to use that!"

"No, she advised not to use that unless necessary. There's a difference. And since I was about to be late to class thanks to you, I kind of had to use it."

"Hmph… no wonder she scolded you…"

With a snort, Prince sat down in his seat with his friends, and the other girls looked at me with dubious looks on their faces like 'who are they?'. They didn't seem to notice how literally every other male student in the room was staring at them, Prince included. Or, they did notice, and just didn't care.

Now you might be wondering why everyone's attention was on the girls and not the teacher of the class. Well, that's because there was no teacher.

This was not a joke. There literally was no teacher, even as the time drew nearer and nearer to the beginning of the class. Strange indeed.

"What did he mean, scolded you?" Feng Mian asked while waiting. "Ling Xin really did that?"

"What do you think?" I chuckled. "Does she seem like the type to scold someone to you?"

At this, she sighed. "I'm not even sure, at this point. That teacher outfit was so exotic, yet it seemed to suit her so well. Maybe she does scold people…"

"Nah," I replied, denying the thought. "She just wanted 'private lessons' with me, if you catch my drift…"

"… Ah." The girls instantly understood, and fell into a brief silence. Then, Axilia, Ling Xin's sister, spoke up.

"Darling… can I have some private lessons too~? You can teach me all your killing methods…"

"Uh, I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant," Yu An Yan whispered. I pretended to not have heard anything, and instead turned away.

"Anyway… where is the teacher?" I asked, looking around at the classroom clearly more advanced than Ling Xin's old-fashioned homeroom. "For such a nice and organized place, you would think the teacher is similar."

"Not sure… perhaps an accident of some sort occurred?" Lan Xiao Su proposed.

But in that moment, the doors suddenly burst open for the second time, and entered a woman with spiky glasses and a white lab coat.

"Hah… hah… hah… hah… good… morning… class…" She panted, dragging herself towards the podium in the front. "I… am…"

"U-Um, ma'am, I think you should rest a bit before speaking," a short-haired girl near the front said caringly, raising her hand.

"Hah… yes…"

The teacher then picked up the glass of water on the table and downed it in one gulp, before shaking her wildly messy and curled hair a few times.

"Phew! Much better. Alright, class! Just in time… I need to be more careful about researching my stuff in the future… but anyway! My name is Mrs. Margaret, but you can simply call me Doc for short. I will be your Hexdroid instructor for the remainder of your time here at this academy, so nice to meet you and all that."

What part of 'Doc' even begins to resemble the name Margaret?!

That's what I was internally debating in my head, but I figured it probably wasn't wise to say that out loud. Prince, on the other hand, immediately raised his hand with different intentions in mind.

"Two questions, Doc!"

"Yes, my dear boy?" Doc arched an eyebrow, prompting him to continue.

"One, why choose Doc when it does not have any relationship with the name Margaret, and two, what are Hexdroids?"

"Good question, my dear boy! Notice how I used 'question' singular form, and not plural! That is because your first question is completely and utterly irrelevant, and I will choose not to answer it because I say so and this is my class! Now, as for your second question, I bring to you…"

She clicked on a button on a TV-remote-like device, and on the screen behind her, a slideshow of some sort appeared.

"Ta-da! Hexdroid basics. Now, I hate boring lessons like this as much as the next guy, but before we get into the fun hands-on stuff, there's safety precautions and stuff in session. If I don't teach you this stuff, I'll get fired, so pay attention! Or don't! I don't really care! Anyway, let's begin!"

Yeah… compared to this, even Ling Xin seems like a great, professional teacher. I'm glad I didn't ask that question just now, gonna be honest.
