91: Ambush

Ambush

The light of the setting sun shone on the thick forest. But under the cover of the dense foliage, only tiny spots of light could get through the gaps between the leaves, which made the whole forest look somewhat dusky.2

In the middle of this forest five-horse carriage was running smoothly. When three burly men suddenly came out of the grasses. They stood in front of the road with their shields raised.

"Halt!! Get out of your carriages!! Leave all your things, and no one will get hurt!" The young man with a black shield and a war ax in the middle of his group shouted.     

"Hoa!!" Startled by their appearance, the first horse carriage came to a stop. The other coachman following behind him wondered why they stopped but still followed suit. 

Inside the first horse carriage is Alex, who didn't realize she dozed off earlier and had been in Ezekiel's lap for almost two hours. And both of them don't have any sign that they would be waking up for another hour. But due to the horse carriage coming to a sudden stop, they have now awakened from their slumber. Alex almost fell from his lap, but Ezekiel managed to hold her body fast enough.

"What's happening??" Ezekiel asked while rubbing his eyes when he heard a man's voice making a ruckus outside their cart.

At the same time, Alex squinted her eyes a little. But when she sensed that something was wrong. She jumped out of Ezekiel's lap without delay. Then Alex's hands grabbed their coachman's clothes and pulled him in a hurry inside their cart without warning.

The young man broke out in cold sweat when he saw five arrows piercing his seat. The horses also jumped to the side in a spook. 

"Protect them!" Alex turned to Ezekiel before she jumped out of the cart to calm down the horses in a hurry. She is afraid that it might endanger Lili and her mother inside. Otherwise, it would run off in a panic if she did not hurry. 

"Hoooo..." A blond man in his 30s carrying a longbow hidden on top of a tree branch was amazed when he saw his target dodge his arrows. He did casually fire it, but with his aim and paired with his skill that increases the speed of his arrow, the guy has a low chance of dodging. They don't even know where he's firing from. 

He watched with curiosity as a little girl came out of the cart pulling the five arrows they fired. Then proceeds to stroke the horses' fur using gentle pressure with her fingertips and scratching lightly with her fingernails. 

The three young men's heads frowned. They lowered their shields to see clearer. But seeing that the girl is ignoring them as if they didn't exist. They shouted in anger. "The audacity!! Hey, you!! Are you an idiot!? This is a robbery, if you don't want to get hurt come forward leave all your items and let us kill you swiftly!!"

Alex continued to ignore them with a smile on her face. 

"Boss Carl, my appraisal shows that girl is level 8... and her friend inside is level 10..." A man hidden behind a tree with a revolver in his hand whispered in the air.

Everyone on their discode's voice channel was shocked when they heard the enemy's level. Wondering how the hell they leveled up so fast! They thought that they were already fast enough after finding out that killing players gives a lot of experience points. And they have even ambushed more than a hundred already, but they are still level 5. 

"Hooo, we caught a big fish this time. They are high level, but there are only two of them, don't get careless. Raise the barrier. I don't want anyone escaping." He doesn't know how they managed to level up so fast when the average level of his group is only 5 after killing so many players. But if they kill them, they will surely have lots of experience and drop many items, especially the level 10 guy. 

At the same time hearing their boss's order, their ravenous eyes peered at Alex as if they had found juicy prey. Their greed overwhelmed their logic in an instant. 

"Yes, Boss!" A guy with a black grimoire responded. He opened it and chanted a spell. "Light screen!!" 

A few seconds later, a thin layer of blue light barrier appeared behind the last horse carriage blocking their way of escape. 

The young coachmen were in panic when they saw that they couldn't escape. While the elders inside who have years of experience were surprisingly calmer. They thought that they wouldn't be in danger since they weren't carrying anything of value. 

At the same time, Alex finally calmed the horses down. 

While she was calming down the horses earlier. She was also looking around and counted the malicious gaze aimed at her. She wanted to know where they were hiding first before she started fighting. It is hard fighting the enemy blind. 

"Twenty..." Alex mumbled. She can help but compliment their formation; since they are all spread out pretty nicely. Then her gaze was landed on a tree beside the barrier they raised. "There are three guys creeping behind us, take care of it. I'll handle the rest." Alex whispered to the air. She was just getting bored sleeping, so they came at the perfect time. She won't let Ezekiel join in the fun, or it will end in a flash. Three guys are enough for him to handle. 

"Got it." 

"Brother, that girl... We know her we started in the same village. She is strong..." A young man with blond hair and a magic staff exclaimed. He wasn't sure at first, but when her eyes landed on the place he was hiding, he remembered the fear he felt when he saw her wield the great ax of Akkar. And the way she fought the goblin army with his friend still lingers in his memories. He did not know how they survived, but they clearly have gotten stronger. "She almost single-handedly fought the goblin army's backline." 

Hearing the word of his brother, Carl examined the girl thoughtfully. He can't underestimate her since his village did not win even last a long time against those goblins. But they can's stop either since they have already started this. There's no way they will let them off that easily if they stop. 

After thinking about it, Carl believes that they still have a chance. After all, compared to those mindless goblins, they can overwhelm her with their formation and strategies. "We will all fire at the same time on my signal. Don't hold back, I want her gone in a matter of seconds. And don't stop until I order you to stop!" 

Everyone in the voice channel answered in unison, clenching their weapons. "Yes, Boss!!"
