405: Zogaroth

Once they began their second approach towards the centre of the mage city, Max took an extremely cautious approach. He repeatedly used scan and way of the wind to detect any incoming dangers as he had an inkling that this place was more dangerous than they could ever imagine.0

Now that he had extinguished his fire fist, the group had no major sources of illumination and needed to rely on the dimly lit bioluminescent light of the city to navigate. 

Eventually when they approached the centre again, Severus began hearing the same low growling sounds from before as he immediately alarmed Max. 

" It's the same growling sound from before- be careful " Severus said as Max focused his way of the wind to notice the same wind elemental spirit from before looking towards him from a distance. 

" I can see you elemental- do you understand human language? " Max shouted towards the half angel half horse elemental as he waited for an answer. 

Since there was no way to circle around the beast, Max decided that he would try to talk reason with the creature and understand its grievances from letting the group pass.

" Ruvisnasa lem zogaroth " The elemental said as Anna narrowed her eyes at the choice of language. 

" It's ancient elven- it's saying don't disturb the work of the great mage zogaroth " Anna said, translating the beasts words 

' Zogaroth! ' Drax immediately exclaimed upon hearing that name as he had an understanding of the abyssal mage zogaroth from the chaos era. 

' Old man, do you know who he is? ' Max questioned in his mind as he could feel the fear in Drax's voice as he spoke that name. 

' RUN- If that old bastard is here, run, don't return ' Drax said, not explaining anything as Max wondered what had caused the old A.I. to react so violently to this news. 

Even if Max took Drax's warnings seriously and ran from the city, he could not break his system contract to help Lucius explore this place, he would undoubtedly need permission from the young prince to abandon the mission. 

' Why do you sound so scared grandpa? ' Max asked as he signalled Severus and the others to begin stepping back slowly. 

' Zogaroth is not just an abyssal mage, he is one of the 3 grandmages of the chaos era! 

In the chaos era, the titles of mage, archmage, grandmage were not given so lightly as today. 

To become a mage, you needed to defeat an official mage in battle while also contributing a new important research to the council of mages.

To become an archmage you needed to be at least tier6 and have advanced mastery over at least one tier6 spell. 

To become a grandmage, however, you needed to defeat 15 archmages in battle of the same or higher tier without using any divine spells while also creating a new school of thought. 

The grandmage stood at the pinnacle of mage council and only 1 in one hundred billion mages could ever become a grandmage. 

The school of thought that Zogaroth established was called the ' God killer society ' a bunch of crazy mages whose experiments were focused on how to restrict the divinity of a god and make them mortals. 

Everyone thought that Zogaroth's school of thought would never amount to much, but during the height of the chaos war, he displayed an ability which made even the monarch's and my lord Agni tremble in fear. 

A spell he created called [ Divinity Constraint ] was an ability that could create a barrier so strong that not even tier 8 monarchs could put a dent on it, even if a 100 of them tried to do it together. 

There was widespread fear amongst all god's, that if he perfected that spell and managed to transform it into [ Divinity Prison ] it would become the ultimate Bane of all gods. 

Thankfully, zogaroth never mastered that ability and had suffered a terrible loss when facing the neutral god of death Hades. 

His creation, the [ Divinity Constraint ] was later found and recorded by the universal queen, which she modified to create the barriers of the arena of the god's. ' 

Max's hands began to tremble as he lost all rational thoughts, a story began to pop up into his mind regarding the circumstances of his brothers death as conveyed to him by Patricia Won Knight-

Wasn't Lucifer allowed to bypass that barrier by the queen and allowed to backstab his brother? 

Wasn't this the same barrier that prevented everyone else from interfering? 

Wasn't this the barrier that did not allow his brother to escape and forced him to fight Lucifer right after he had killed Thor? 

Wasn't this the same barrier that was in part responsible for his brother's death? 

' Calm down boy- don't make stupid decisions! ' Drax warned Max as he could feel the bloodlust rising within Max's body. 

[ Inferno ] 

Turning to face the elemental, Max suddenly decided to attack as he unleashed the inferno attack. 

" Vamaso Defrak " 

The elemental said angrily as he charged towards Max. 

The rest of the group was taken by surprise by Max's abrupt decision to charge towards the elemental, when he was the first one to take the initiative to back down but looking at the fierceness with which he battled, it seemed like he hated the elemental creature to his bone. 

Fire spell after fire spell, Max went absolutely ballistic as Lucius stared in horror at the never ending mana pool of Max and the speed at which he conjured spells. 

' His mastery of fireball is perfect ' 

' His mastery of Fireblast is perfect ' 

' His mastery of Inferno is also perfect ' 

' How did he master so many fire spells at such a young age? Even my father with all his countless years of existence only has 3 spells he has brought to perfect mastery, yet Ravan also has the same level of mastery at his puny age? How is that possible?' Lucius watched shockingly as Max seemed to battle with nothing but air, but at the moments where his spells were blocked or his attack hit their mark, Lucius saw a vivid outline of the creature he was fighting which made him realise that there was indeed an opponent that Max was facing.
