A Wave of Savage Beasts
Ao Qin lingered on Ming Yue's existence for just a moment and then looked at the battle. The metallic smell of blood wafted up into the air, tickling his nose. 1
"Hm, I should get a move on. Might as well enjoy a few easy kills, no?"
His mouth turned up into a grin and he waved his giant saber around.
"You're right, let's deal with this rabble first. The north can wait."
Ruishi Lei stepped onto the edge of the wall, looking down before dropping into the fight. The dragon-kin stepped forward, leaning over the wall while resting the saber over his shoulder.
"Heh, just going to go first?"
He walked back a few steps before running forward and leaping off the wall! As he descended, his saber lashed out, killing several beasts at once. Ao Qin moved quickly, swinging his saber and killing with each move,
This was certainly a battle of attrition but both sides were tenacious and brutal. It was just animals fighting against animals, a type of carnage that could make even the most bloodthirsty feel quenched.
With screams and cries of pain echoing out, blood pooled together as chunks of flesh and dead bodies were littered everywhere.
By then, the stench of blood had become thick, overpowering any other smell.
"Kill them all! Don't let them reach the walls!"
That was all these Seekers thought as they fought to push back this flood of beasts. This was just the beginning as the stronger ones soon made themselves known.
"Watch out! It's a Silkdeath Spider!"
"There's another! A Boulder Ape!"
"An Acrid Salamander! Move away!"
What they had fought earlier were just the normal denizens of the Savage Lands, an appetizer of the hordes. Now, it was the main course.
"Step back! No, retreat! There's more of them! A wave of Savage Beasts!"
Qiuyu Bi's voice echoed out from the spires as this old Seeker barked out commands. The leader of the Preservation Division was just as Ao Qin had described, an old man.
With a short and stocky figure, he wore a heavy set of armor that exposed his back but that feature was for a good reason. His back was a shell resembling that of an armadillo, Flexible and tough, it was an aspect that was unique to his own kind.
He had wrinkles on his face, a beard trailing down his chin, and a rough expression on his face. Qiuyu Bi's eyes surveyed the area, looking at the battle from the top of the spire. He was practically leaning over, trying to get a better look at it all.
"There's so many of them... Retreat! Support the Reclamation Division! Do not take on any of the stronger Savage Beasts!"
Despite his shouts, many of them couldn't hear him, they were too focused on the battle to do so. All Qiuyu Bi did was punch the wall of the spire, gritting his teeth down below. As much as he would like to join, his death would cause chaos within the Preservation Division.
"Damn it, those Reclamation Seekers better get rid of the stronger beasts before our losses grow."
He muttered under his breath, keeping a close watch on all four sides of the city.
Every side was beginning the get pushed in with the appearance of over a thousand of these Savage Beasts. Some were easily dealt with while most were more than a little troublesome.
"Nothing interesting, huh?"
Ao Qin raised a brow at all this as he took a glance at everyone else. He sighed before moving off to the East Side where his help was needed the most. All the while, his medallion glowed and voices came out.
"To think there were still so many of them! I thought I had seen through the entire horde."
"There weren't that many on my side, so I just killed whatever was helpful to me."
"Yeah, it was mostly rabble, just one or two that seemed interesting."
Hearing these words, he grabbed the medallion and put it up to his mouth to speak.
"All of you didn't bother to check with each other? Did hunting alone all this time turn your brains to mush? Just focused on whatever was in front of your eyes, is that it? Whatever piqued your interest? Now look at this, all of the hordes combined and all the beasts you ignored are together! If the city falls, I'm going to haunt you all with my saber!"
His parting words came out with a much angrier tone as he held the medallion up with a much tighter grip.
"Alright, alright, old man."
"You don't have to get so scary with us."
"We'll deal with it, the city isn't going to fall under our watch."
The response was mixed, some were faltered a bit, others were confident. Whatever the tone, they all seemed to fight with a "renewed" effort. It seemed that they'd rather let the city fall than face the wrath of Ao Qin, especially those who have experienced it before.
In the time that passed, the beast hordes pushed further in, getting closer to the city walls. Spearheaded by this wave of Savage Beasts, there was no sign of the faltering but the hundred-something members of Reclamation made their move.
"Come on then! We don't even have to look for them! Slaughter them all!"
With the same wild confidence as before, each and every one of them found a target and struck. The first line of Savage Beasts cried out and fell to the ground. In a matter of seconds, they were killed and the ones behind them were next. They were beaten, sliced, stabbed, crushed, and more.
Each Reclamation Seeker represented a different method for the beasts to die.
"Ahahaha! How fun this is! So much prey!"
With a smile on their faces and blood covering their bodies, they went on a rampage. Because of them, the pressure on everyone else greatly lessened. It had lessened to the point that they could all watch as the Reclamation Seekers did their work.
Even the Four Claws watched from the ground as Zhu Xie did the same on his ship.
There were beasts that towered above everything and toppled down as a dozen little figures broke their bodies apart. Some fought back but suffered over a hundred wounds before they could even land a hit. But the fight was even fiercer as these Savage Beasts began to attack indiscriminately, not caring for the weaker kin.
The ground trembled and ruptured! There was lightning, fire, and great gusts of wind as the beasts went on a rampage of their own. If they couldn't kill these Seekers, they would just destroy everything, even themselves.
"Gah, these bastards! If we don't get rid of them fast enough, the city is going to fall!"
"Hurry it up then! What the hell happened to all of that cockiness from before?!"
"You think we're not trying? It's not that easy to move around y'know!"
"Whatever, just get rid of them quick!"
With the constant destruction around them, it became harder for the Reclamation Seekers to kill and even more difficult for the others to provide support. If that weren't bad enough, something else happened.
It caught the eye of Qiuyu Bi, who glanced up at the skies. Narrowing them, he looked up at the bright sun, noticing a small shadow from above.
"What is that?" he muttered.
The leader of Preservation continued to look up at the sky, following the shadow as it grew closer and closer. His eyes widened as he gained a closer look at what had come.
"Oh no."
He then ran towards the edge of the spire and screamed out as loudly as he can.
"RETREAT! WATCH OUT FROM ABOVE!"
His voice echoed out catching everyone's attention, even the Reclamation Seekers. All of them looked up at the skies and immediately retreated, running away as fast as they could. The slowest of them barely managed to escape as this looming shadow dove down!
