A Second Weapon Spirit

Ming Yue immediately stared at the Black Blade, hearing this voice. It was one of an old man, whose tone was guarded and wary of her.

"Are you the weapon spirit of this sword, Senior?" she asked.

"Yes, I am! My name is- I am- You may address me as... How strange, my memories are gone. What happened? Did you do this?"

Growing agitated, the Black Blade howled out, giving off a threatening aura. And Blood Moon responded in kind.

"Hmph, do you think I'm going to let you bully us like that?"

Xue Yue spoke out sharply.

Both swords released their auras, one was a crimson red and the other was ink black. The air trembled with the howling of both swords before Ming Yue stopped it.

"Stop it."

Bringing both blades together, she stared at them both, enduring the heavy pressure coming from the two spirits.

"Fine, you better stop and treat us better or I'll break you."

Conceding first, Blood Moon no longer howled and the Black Blade followed soon after. The trembling air stopped and the atmosphere returned to its peaceful state.

"Hm, my apologies. It seems that my mind has become clouded and my strength has waned. I- would it be possible to tell me what is going on? How did you find me?" the weapon spirit asked.

Ming Yue explained briefly, telling the spirit of how she had discovered the Black Blade and its precarious situation. When she finished, the weapon spirit was silent and after a few minutes, it finally spoke.

"So I have been chained up for thousands of years, afflicted with the energy of the Calamity. Then I guess my former master is no longer alive."

There was a tinge of loneliness in his voice, knowing how much time has passed since then.

"Still, Zhen Wu's sword... I suppose my name is Zhen Wu then", said the spirit.

"Then, Senior Zhen Wu, could you explain this marking on my wrist?"

Ming Yue gestured towards the little black sun on the front of her wrist.

"That? That is... a symbol that you are capable of wielding me. And there is no need to address me like that, Senior Zhen is better."

"I see, then Senior Zhen."

The Black Blade hummed harmoniously, showing his good mood.

"Yes, that is much better but although you are able to use me, It does not mean that you can use me, especially not in this state", he said.

"What? What do you mean by that?!"

Xue Yue spat back, taking offense toward Senior Zhen.

"Ahem, it's not that I wouldn't allow you to but as I am now. I am nothing more than a simple sword. To use me requires both the power and the skill, both of which you are barely passable on."

He spoke bluntly and just when Xue Yue was about to protest, Senior Zhen addressed Xue Yue.

"You should understand as well. Even though you are a young weapon spirit, no matter what unique connection you both have, your full strength is not being used, far from it", he said.

"..."

"So you do understand."

Ming Yue suddenly realized something, looking at the Black Blade with surprise.

"Connection? How do you know?!" she asked.

Senior Zhen chuckled.

"It's not hard to discern. After all, both of you practically have the same voice among other things."

The cultivator was slightly taken aback by the answer but realized that it wasn't a hard thing to deduce. Deciding not to pursue it any longer, Ming Yue moved on to the main topic.

"Oh, I see. Then how would I be able to use both swords?"

"The answer to this... I don't quite remember clearly. But to be able to use me at my full power, you need to be at the Heaven Realm to have enough energy to do anything. As far as the Sword Dao goes, you must reach the peak."

"The peak? The Sage's Sword?"

"Yes, and there is one other thing I must mention, compatibility. You have the marking to show that the Black Blade suits you but you are only suitable, nowhere close to full mastery."

"I see."

Ming Yue looked at the two swords, thinking about what she should do.

She didn't exactly need a new sword but she didn't quite want to give it away. There could be a wealth of knowledge and opportunity to be found with Senior Zhen. But it could also be a waste in her hands.

"What should I do?" she wondered.

Although she had this amazing treasure, Ming Yue wasn't quite sure about what the best way to go about this would be. In the end, she couldn't decide.

"I'll just bring you back and think on it."

Grabbing them both, she turned and flew off, going back to her little abode. In the meantime, Ming Yue continued to speak with Senior Zhen, consulting with the spirit. But after being eroded by the Calamity Energy, his memories were clouded.

Still, his knowledge was quite vast.

"Can you explain to me what a Weapon Spirit is exactly? All that I know is that they are the peak form of a weapon, the strongest they can be", she said.

"Weapon Spirits? It is true that they are the highest form a weapon can be. To say that they are the strongest isn't quite so. Weapon Spirits are only as strong as the ones using them. Hence, while you are able to wield us, you have yet to tap into our full strength. Furthermore, every weapon spirit is different."

"Different? What do you mean? Is it the sense of self or is there more?"

"Well, yes, I am certainly not the same weapon spirit as Xue Yue but there is more to it. Every weapon spirit has its own specialties. What I can do may not be what she can do and vice versa", Senior Zhen explained.

"Then... what could you do?" Ming Yue asked.

She was very curious. Weapon Spirits were both incredibly rare and highly sought after. For her to be in possession of two was even more so. And with how rare they were, not much was known about their properties.

"What could I do? Well, I can cut", he said.

"You can cut? I can cut too, what makes you so special?" Xue Yue questioned.

"I can cut anything. That is what separates me from other swords. It does not matter what it is, so long as the one that holds me wills it, I will cut it."

Senior Zhen's words came out seriously, so much so that Xue Yue couldn't say much. And Ming Yue was quiet, thinking over his words.

"Cut down everything. Those were the words of the Lunatic Sword, if that is the case then, would it mean..."

Looking at the sword, she descended, landing on the ground. Putting Blood Moon into her spatial Ring, she held the Black Blade with both hands.

"Hm? What are you doing? In your hands, I am merely a normal sword", Senior Zhen said.

"Yeah, what are you trying to do, Ming Yue?"

Both spirits were confused by her actions but she did not mind them. Ming Yue took a stance and held the Black Blade forward. Closing her eyes, she thought back to the statue of the Lunatic Sword that she saw all that time ago. 2

She stood upright, planting her feet on the ground while her knees were slightly bent. Breathing in and out, she quietly concentrated and tethered her energy.

At this moment, Senior Zhen was quiet, uttering just one line.

"This stance..."

Bringing her concentration to its highest, she sensed a single instance of peace and swung out.

"Cut down everything."

The Black Blade flashed as it was used, a strange power erupted from its strike!
