The Sword Pendant's Power
Ming Yue looked at the fish for a few moments. It just stayed in one place, gently moving its fins. It didn't quite seem like it knew she was looking, but she knew. She knew that it noticed her but neither of them did anything. 1
She sighed, thinking to herself.
"Hah, is this really worth the trouble?"
The young woman just looked at the Aureate Koi and turned away. If she really wanted to, she would've chased it down and killed it. However, doing so would not only be troublesome but she'd probably wreak havoc across the North. She had already gotten a taste of what it would be like trying to track it down.
"I practically wasted an entire day searching for something that just comes back here. But, if it's just going to keep coming back like this..."
Another large wind needle formed in her hand and her armor shifted back to its second form. Ming Yue wasn't going to give up so easily.
"I just need to be faster."
The wind needle shot out again and she followed right after with Blood Moon.
The Aureate Koi's body shimmered as it swam out of the way, avoiding the needle this time. But, it wasn't ready to find Ming Yue right in front of it, quickly changing directions. It swam off, racing towards the waterfall.
"Did you think I was going to ignore that?"
Pointing her other hand at the waterfall, the sword pendant shot out at a blazing speed, producing a shrill whistle as it came for the Aureate Koi.
The Beast God was stuck here.
If it continued further the sword pendant would strike it. If it slowed down, Ming Yue would catch up. Even then. the Aureate Koi's fate had yet to be sealed as its speed nearly doubled, swimming up the waterfall just as the sword pendant struck, piercing a hole in its tail.
Pinkish blood flowed out of its wound, dyeing the waterfall in its color.
Despite the pain, it swam up the waterfall and fled. But Ming Yue followed after it, keeping close watch so as to not lose it again.
"Once I kill it, the beast-kin will never find it and their plans will be delayed. I wouldn't have to clash against them yet', she thought.
With another reason to hunt it down, she was resolute in doing so. If worse comes to worst, the surrounding area would be left in shambles. In fact, she had already left a trail of destroyed trees and fleeing beasts behind her.
Following the fish over a small river, Ming Yue flew over it, forming wind needles and shooting in a neverending stream.
However, the Aureate Koi didn't seem to be playing around anymore. Its body constantly shimmered as it evaded the attacks, warping its own body to do so. It was strange to see as the fish could grow shorter or longer, even twisting in a strange manner just to escape the attacks.
You could hear water splashing followed by a cracking sound as the wind needles struck the riverbed, piercing the rock. By now, the sun had set and the moon shined above them. Rays of moonlight peeked through the gaps of the leaves, giving the surrounding area an ethereal glow.
Ming Yue was nothing more than a bluish blur following a golden light across the North. No matter where the koi fish went, she chased after it, going from one river to the next, from one pond to a lake. Even if it dove deep, she was on its tail at every step.
As quick as it was, it couldn't avoid everything.
Bit by bit, the injuries continued to grow as blood flowed. A faint smell arose from it and that brought on even more problems.
Within an earshot, she heard faint howls and shrieks as beasts gathered to chase after. For Ming Yue, it gave off a metallic scent but for others, it was an irresistible scent.
"What?!"
She wasn't expecting this sort of development to happen at all. But now that it had come to this, she had to do something and she already had an idea.
"Hah, here goes nothing."
Knowing this, she brought the sword pendant forth, having it float above her hand like a Wind Needle. Knowing its full capabilities, she pointed toward the fish and began to feed her energy into the little sword.
She knew full well what would come of this.
"I might lose control but there's no way that koi fish is going to escape from this", she thought.
The Sword Pendant's whistling slowly grew into a shrill howling as she could feel it trying to let loose from her grasp. As for the Aureate Koi, it suddenly shot forward sensing the impending danger behind it.
Even then, a string of light flashed forward, going straight into its tail bone and through its mouth. The light continued onwards, flying to the bottom of the lake and piercing the stone. The golden glow flickered as it stopped swimming, instead, trembling in the waters.
Ming Yue caught up to it quickly, taking it into her spatial ring and recalling the sword pendant. From above, the calm lake surface erupted as the cultivator flew out.
"Damn, I'm too late."
Muttering to herself, she gazed at her surroundings, seeing beasts gathered all around the lake. She was surrounded, an encirclement of hundreds growling and baring their fangs at her. There were hundreds of them, enough to form a horde of their own, all with just one goal. Drool fell from their mouths, enticed by the scent of the Aureate Koi's blood on her body.
It didn't matter to them that she was stronger than all of them. They knew that death was a possibility but for this Beast God, it was worth the price.
As for the cultivator, she ascended past the trees and looked down at the beasts below. But there was a growing number of them in the air, squawking and shrieking at her. Gauging the situation she sighed before calling the sword pendant out once more.
"If it's come to this, I might as well take this as a bit of practice."
The Sword Pendant whistled before flying forth, piercing the hearts of the beasts. Like a needle threading through embroidery, it shined under the moonlight, a white glint streaking across the skies.
Bodies began to fall out from above, plunging to the ground with a loud thud. They could barely react before death came for them.
She made quick work before looking down below at those that could not reach her.
Her eyes narrowed as she thought of something. Pointing her fingers down, the little sword descended at the eye level of these beasts. It looked as if it was staring down at them, this sword that was no bigger than a hand against these wild creatures.
Some howled and barked at it, trying to scare an emotionless piece of metal.
The Sword Pendant just stayed in one place quietly waiting for Ming Yue's command. The woman looked down her fingers pointed outwards in the same direction the pendant was in. Her eyes were focused but icily cold as she flicked her wrist from right to left as if to execute them.
Just like that, the little sword followed in a sweeping motion and a wave of light circled around the lake.
Things were suddenly quiet until the hundreds of trees toppled down. The scent of blood wafted into the air as blood escaped the bodies of the dead beasts, collecting into the lake and tainting its clear waters.
"Just like when I sneezed, a sudden movement like that... will kill everything in its path", she thought to herself.
The sword pendant returned to its owner looking pristine. There was no trace of blood or even the smallest of fractures. But such a small thing left behind such a devastating aftermath. It was frightening to see and the commotion was enough of a warning for the beast-kin.
