Hunting the Wicked
The others perked up at the mention of the Beast Continent, looking a bit more interested now. Even the restaurant seemed a little bit quieter now that she spoke of it. 1
Zhi Xun leaned forward, putting more weight onto her staff as she did so.
"I hear that the so-called 'tribes' of the Beast Continent are in the midst of their own power struggle. They've already begun to send out messengers to make alliances. And recently, it seems that one or two of them have attempted to make contact with Redmist Sanctuary."
Her voice was low, just loud enough for the other three to hear.
"It seems that they're offering quite a bit to help them in this though, it doesn't seem like anyone has taken them up on it yet."
The others shared looks with one another before looking at the elderly woman.
"It won't stay like that for long, someone is going to be interested in them. Though, I'm sure that everyone is just going to wait until that happens first. After all, news of its existence has just come out. There are still many unknown variables."
Chuan Mu sipped on his tea as he turned his attention back to the streets.
"Despite that, it's an opportunity, I'm sure of it. Still, I'm curious as to who is decide to join these 'tribes' in their rivalry."
Jia Han scoffed as he revealed an indignant look before them.
"What does it matter? Isn't that just the same here? There will always be those clans looking for someone to do their dirty work", he said.
The other glanced at him before looking away, None of them had anything to say about his statement. Even those dining in the restaurant had returned to their meal. After all, what he said was true.
Certainly, the Beast Continent was uncharted territory to them but it seemed that the ways of the world remain unchanged. Someone will always be needed to do the things that others don't want to do themselves. What was most important was what the offer was., be it money, power, or entertainment, there is always an appropriate price.
The bustling city of the Redmist Sanctuary continued to grow into the night. It was especially busy during these times, for the night is when these evil cultivators were most active.
And so, it was the perfect time for Ming Yue to start.
Having rented a room at the Lucky Cat Inn, it didn't take long for her to settle down. The room itself was on the smaller end, with a small table and bed with a thin mattress. It had the needed furnishings and nothing extra thought she didn't need more.
She peeked out of her window, seeing the crowded streets and practically everyone there was a criminal in some way. Narrowing her eyes, the young woman took the time to take note of the city.
"Hmm, narrow streets, only the main roads are well lit. From the looks of it, those so-called 'hunting groups' are beginning to form. I could start one at a time."
Closing her window, she left the inn and wandered into the streets of Redmist Sanctuary. While her clothes were still clean, the scent of blood was not gone. No one seemed to care but they did take notice because of the white robes.
"It seems like the White Aspen is more well known than I thought."
Just like before, she noticed gazes on her, several presences had even begun to track her down.
"They look a bit curious, I wonder how curious they are."
Without warning, her pace quickened just a bit before she began walking from one street to the next, taking them on a bit of chase, Those following her matched her pace until she finally turned a corner, stepping into one of the quieter roads.
And the others came around only to find her gone.
"What? Where did she go?!"
"Could the White Aspen have noticed us? But even then. there was nothing about her being able to do this!"
They all looked at each other, finding it strange. However, none of them would have the fortune to figure it out as the glint of a sword came through them all. One horizontal slash from Ming Yue was all it took as Blood Moon sliced through all of their necks.
Their bodies stayed still before buckling over, losing their strength.
"Mm, just a few Earth Realm and Human Realm Cultivators, not bad."
She knelt down and searched through their clothes, taking the red tokens and their spatial rings. Their treasures meant little to her as a Sky Realm expert but they might still be valuable to others. Taking what she could, she quickly moved all of their bodies into one of the spatial rings before leaving the scene and rejoining the main streets.
Thus, she continued on her way, wandering the streets of the city.
However, her eyes were constantly moving, she paid attention to everything in her surroundings. there were others glancing at her, perhaps noticing the fresh scent of blood on her body. On one end, it was a warning but on the other, it was an invitation.
"It looks like tonight might be a busy one though, I have to make full use of my identity, don't I?", she thought to herself.
There were plenty of gazes on her now. Evil or not, all cultivators had pride, not many could just ignore one of their own, especially with her appearance. It might seem like a city but Redmist Sanctuary was still a den of criminals.
While killing in public would be disdained, it's not as if it wouldn't happen. There wouldn't even be any consequence to it. In an instant, she was the target of many people.
"I don't have to cause a big scene but... I do need some attention."
She casually looked around before wandering into another empty road. This time, however, there were several people waiting for her. And the one standing at the front had their arms crossed while grinning at her.
"Qing Ji, Qing Ji, to think you've made your appearance here right before the Nightmist Parade. Do you really think that I'd let you walk around so nonchalantly?!"
They suddenly unsheathe their weapon, a short sword, and pointed it at her. The grin on their faces turned to one of anger.
"Do you really think that after you killed my younger brother, I'd let you go?! No! Do you have any idea just how many people want to see you dead? To see your body tortured and torn apart like a ragged do-"
Before he could even finish his words, Ming Yue just vanished from their sight, melding into the shadows of the dark streets.
"Wha-"
They couldn't even talk before heads started to fly off one by one, dying without even realizing it. And the one who had been spouting out all these words could only look in shock. Pointing their sword at the next head that fell, trying to catch even a glimpse of her.
The sword shook in their hands, a chilly feeling went through their back. Taking a step back, long after another, Turning their head left and right, their eyes darted from one direction to another, pointing the blade randomly.
By the time, they realized it, they were the last one alive.
And they were so focused on finding her that they didn't even notice the figure standing in front of them. The moment they saw her, their sword moved swiftly towards her.
"Yo-you.... who are you?!"
Their voice trembled as fear overtook them. Her eyes were piercing and emotionless.
The young woman walked forward, blood dripping down her sword, splattering on the ground.
"I'm the White Aspen."
