Yao Lu, The Manic Clown

Among them was Ming Yue, dressed in white robes and wearing a half-mask that covered her mouth and nose. Looking around her, there were several lines, each one had dozens of people and they all shuffled along. 1

"There's quite a lot of people... is there going to be enough space for everyone?" she wondered. 

Following the line, she looked ahead at the entrance where there were several guards, checking everyone's identity token. She felt her pockets, checking to make sure that Qing Ji's token was on her. 

"I should be able to get in", she thought to herself. 

With the lines of people waiting to get in, there was a bit of talking around her. 

"Do you think that the rumors are true? Do they have a real fairy in this year's auction?"

"I mean they have to! If they don't, how many people would be angry with such deceit? Let alone the auction, the city itself might be trashed!"

"Right, right, they took in a risk but if it's true, if they do have a fairy... who do you think is going to get it?"

"Mmm, I don't know honestly, it might be one of the Four Bloody Stars. Or maybe one of the Fourteen Evils, I hear that Yao Lu is supposed to be coming. Someone like him is probably interested in a fairy."

'Him? Is it true then? He's quite a madman, always unpredictable and acting on a whim. I heard that he once killed an entire clan because one of their servants had dropped a bag of medicine in front of him. Apparently, he didn't like that his walk was interrupted."

"Is that so? Ah, I hope I don't catch his attention. The last thing that I need is trouble like that."

Listening in on the surrounding conversations, Ming Yue learned a little bit more about the auction and Yao Lu.

"Is he really that sort of person?" she wondered to herself, "To destroy a whole clan for such a little thing? How unreasonable can someone be?" 

And then, the person in question made their appearance. There was a glimpse of a shadow as someone dropped down from the sky, landing right on top of the same people that were talking. Everyone turned to look while backing away from the scene. 

"I heard my name from your mouths, did any of you have anything good to say about me?"

A rather cocky voice spoke out and when the dust cleared, Ming Yue saw a man sitting on top of a pile of unconscious bodies. His appearance was unlike anything she'd seen before. His clothes were baggy and on the colorful side. Mainly white but there were strips of cloth dangling from his sleeves, all of them had varying colors from red, green, and even brown. 

What was even more shocking was his face. which was covered in makeup. His asking was porcelain white and there were stars and teardrops over and under his eyes. And the eyes themselves weren't normal, there was something about them that gave off an eerie feeling. As if they weren't his eyes to begin with, after all. one pupil was hazel and the other was silver. 

He leaned over, looking down at their faces with a grin. 

With his foot on one of their heads, his victims groan as he pushed down on them. 

"Come on, was there anything you'd like to say to me? Eh?" 

Somehow, there was a stick in his hand and he poked them several times but they had nothing to say. Even if they did, Yao Lu was here and none of them were looking to die today, 

in the end, he snorted and hopped off, tossing the stick on top of the pile of bodies. 

"Boring."

He casually strolled past the lines, skipping everyone before standing before the guards at the door. All of them merely looked down and parted ways, letting him enter without even needing to check his identity. Just like the others, they didn't want to die today. 

Yao Lu looked at them, giving them all a good look before going. 

But then he suddenly stopped and turned around, walking towards one of the guards and stopping right in front of them. The guard looked down but nothing could hide their trembling hands.

He smiled before tapping their nose and running off. 

Everyone watched as he left and once they couldn't see him, there was a collective sigh coming from them all before the lines reformed. However, no one was willing to enter just yet. 

As for Ming Yue, she was deep in thought, evaluating Yao Lu in her mind. 

"Hm, he's an expert at the Sky Realm, he's only in the First Sky like me but... his appearance. How strange. I didn't think someone like him would be dressed so uniquely." 

His clothes were something she'd never seen before, they didn't resemble anything even remotely. It was like a combination of several styles, mashed together with no rhyme or reason. But that wasn't the important part.

"Do you think we can kill him?" Ming Yue asked inwardly. 

It was a question that both Xue Yue and Elder Zhen answered with confidence. 

"Of course."

With their response, she felt reassured and even smiled though it was hidden behind her mask. Soon enough the lines moved again and they moved quickly. When it came to her, all she had to do was flash the token and the guards quickly made way for her. 

After all, she was Qing Ji in their minds, someone who recently made a ruckus killing over a dozen others because of past grievances. Few would want to cross her path now. 

"Please enter, enjoy the auction, Miss Qing Ji."

Walking in, she saw a staircase leading down with no end in sight. While she could just fly down,s he chose to walk it, this was something that everyone else did. She soon realized why as a strange feeling overcame her. 

"A formation... only this one is meant to suppress one's energy. For someone at the Sky Realm, it doesn't do that much though using any large techniques is going to be difficult. "

Thinking this, she prepared herself for the auction, knowing that things weren't going to be easy. 

The trip down didn't take that long as the cultivator saw an end to the stairs and walked out into a massive arena. The stage itself was at the front as the entire place was in the shape of a half circle. With about five levels and what seemed like several thousand seats, there was certainly enough space for everyone. And this wasn't including the private booths that those with a little more money or power resided in. 

Ming Yue stood at the highest level and she stayed there, taking a seat near the back. Although it was quite far away, it was a great vantage point where she could overlook the entire arena. 

She sat and waited while more and more people entered, taking the seats closer to the stage. Aside from there were only a few others seated in the same area. All of them were hidden behind their masks, revealing nothing about their identity, 

Among them was someone wearing a veiled hat, when they entered, Ming Yue took notice of them immediately and found this person familiar. 

But who could it be?

She didn't want to risk revealing herself and even if she were to make contact with them, the auction had begun. 

The murmuring voices that echoed all over stopped as the lights dimmed, placing focus on the stage where a woman stepped up. It was none other than Bai Meng, dressed in a rather tight but elegant outfit. It was a simple look that had very little decor but it accentuated her body and the simplicity added some gracefulness. 

There was a smile on her face as she looked at all of the guests. 

"Welcome to the Nightmist Auction! I hope that there is something for everyone here!"
