Fighting For the Fairy
As soon as the announcer said their piece, the stage was suddenly lit up as numerous lights focused on one spot of the stage. And at that very spot was a metal cage placed atop a pedestal.1
Ming Yue's eyes flashed as she placed her hand on the hilt of Blood Moon. Her face turned cold and icy, a frown coupled with sharpened eyes.
Within it was exactly what she thought it'd be, a member of the Nuwa Clan. Its little body was chained to the floor of the cage, and each of its chubby limbs was cuffed. It looked weak and scared, trembling under the bright light.
The moment it was revealed, there were voices of amazement and intrigue as many of them stood up to get a better look at the fairy.
And after they had their time to look, the announcer spoke.
"This fairy was found by one of our own and its starting bid will be 5 million gold."
"10 million!"
In an instant, someone shouted out their bid, doubling the amount. That number was enough to deter many of them but not all of them.
"15 million!"
"20 million!"
"25 million!"
As the amount grew higher and higher, fewer people moved to bid and it had reached a point where there were only two bidders left.
"50 million! See if you can top that!"
The one bidding this amount shouted from one of the other private rooms, a haughty voice who seemed quite confident about that number, There was a pause after that provocation and the announcer began to found down.
"50 million going once! 50 million going twice! 50 mill-"
"100 million gold!"
The other voice rang out loud and clear for everyone to hear and the amount even made the announcer take a pause. But the other bidder had something to say.
"Bullshit! How can you have such wealth?! That's enough gold for a small kingdom! I refuse to believe that you have 100 million gold on you!" they shouted out.
Hearing them call this other bidder out, the others joined in.
"Yeah, 100 million? How is it even possible for someone to have that much!"
"That's impossible, even gathering a million takes a few months. It'd take us at least a few years to gather 100 million gold!"
"I don't believe you for a minute! Who are you even?!"
All of them looked in the direction of that voice, trying to find out who this mysterious bidder was. Even Ming Yue was curious, eyeing the private room as well. There was nothing aside from a window that no one could see into. That was a feature that all private rooms had.
For this particular room, there was no response from them.
"Look here! I will reveal myself!"
From the private room of the other bidder, the window suddenly turned clear as a figure appeared. It was an elderly man with several men and women behind him, most likely his guards. He didn't seem like much of a fighter, dressed in quite fancy clothing in fact. His physical appearance was certainly eye-catching. A thin man wearing numerous pieces of jewelry, more than likely it was a merchant.
His face while a bit ghoulish, was overshadowed by a frown on his face.
"I am Zhan Jun! Leader of the Penumbra Merchants and I refuse to believe there is someone out there wealthier than me!"
As he introduced himself, there was murmuring and whispers as everyone looked at him.
"That's the leader of the Penumbra Merchants?!"
'To think I'd see a bigshot here, I didn't even hear anything about them coming."
Ming Yue narrowed her eyes as she looked at the thin-faced merchant.
"Zhan Jun, I remember reading about him. Head of the Penumbra Merchant Group, they specialize in obtaining even the rarest of items. Nothing is forbidden in their eyes, robbing tombs of the most gilded of heroes to make a profit", she muttered.
The young woman then turned to the other room, waiting to see if the other bidder would reveal themselves. However, there was only silence coming from that side of the arena and Zhan Jun's frown turned into a sneer.
"Are you afraid now? Unable to prove yourself?" he taunted, "If that's enough to scare you then I'll have you know that I'm not getting this for myself. A client of mine requested this once they caught wind of it, do you really want to offend them?"
There was an audible gasp from the crowd. After all, whoever was able to get the leader of the Penumbra Merchants to make a move was surely a big shot.
And having said all of this, the other bidder had nothing to say in response.
But then, they finally said something, or rather, they sighed.
"Haah, I know, it's Hao Shiyan, right? I can't wait to see the look on his face."
Zhan Jun's face dropped at the mention of that name, there was a trace of fear as he looked at the other side.
"Ho- how did you kno-"
Without warning the arena began to rumble as numerous explosions echoed throughout it. Cracks formed across the walls as the seats started a crumble a bit. Clouds of dust blew up and a loud bang followed as someone broke out of their private room.
"What is this? What's happening?! What the hell is Yao Lu doing?!"
From within another room, Bai Meng smashed another table to pieces as she stood up, gnashing her teeth. Chaos ensued as everyone suddenly scattered, running for their lives. If they knew anything at all they knew that Hao Shiyan is one of the Fourteen Evils. And to refer to him in such a casual manner meant that there was someone else here of similar standing.
Yao Lu.
"Get the guards! Make sure that the announcer is safe and protect the fairy at all costs! Do not let Yao Lu come close to it at all! If it comes down to it, activate the formation!"
Barking out orders, the Branch Leader ran towards the window of the viewing room and leaped through it. Checking her surroundings, the branch leader pulled a whip from her sleeves, using it to maneuver through the air. in a matter of seconds, she landed on the stage, cracking her whip as she checked the cage.
Walking up to it, she saw the cage intact and the fairy still inside. However, it seemed to shrink to a corner, trembling in fear from the commotion.
She spun back, noticing a glint of light in the air. Narrowing her eyes, she cracked her whip before striking in the direction of the light, clearing the dust and revealing the source of it. It was an axe wielded by Yao Lu.
A frightening image to see, a grinning clown with an axe in their hand, ready to kill.
"You might be stronger than me but that doesn't mean that I'll lose to you so easily!" she shouted out.
Yao Lu just cackled as he landed in front of her, tossing his axe around playfully.
"You didn't want to give me the fairy earlier so I have to do things like this. Either way, I'll get that stupid thing and use it to piss off Hao Shiyan. I can't wait to see that bespectacled bastard's face turn red like a tomato", he told her.
That only made Bai Meng even angrier.
"Doing all this for that petty excuse of a reason? That's it? Just to annoy him?!" she shouted.
Cracking her whip once more, she pointed it at him.
"You're not going to move another step closer, you idiotic madman."
The clown just grinned at her warning.
"Heh, can you even stop me? I've rigged this entire place to blow, if I can't have it, no one can."
As they faced off against one another, there were others who aimed for the fairy in this mess. Among them, Ming Yue watched from the shadows, assessing the situation.
