Call for Revenge

That was the reality of the situation that they were in. One danger had been eliminated only to invite more to their home. Two members of the Fourteen Evils had been killed, surely their eyes would turn towards Red Lotus Country. 1

"Right," said Grandpa Meng, "Yao Lu and Bai Meng were certainly dangerous on their own but the other twelve are much worse than these two."

He looked at Ming Yue as he said this before turning around to face Lord Tang.

"However, should they gather here, I'm sure that the powers beyond our country will not sit still and let this slide. They may even take this opportunity to strike them down."

Lord Tang nodded.

"You may be right but the situation is still dire. After all, there is still a lot of focus on the Demon Continent. Not to mention, the Beast Continent has opened up as well. These are opportunities for good and evil to flourish", he responded before looking ahead toward the young woman and her friend.

"In any case, what do you plan to do now?" he asked.

Ming Yue was quiet, pondering about her current plan. After all, she wanted to stomp out this branch of Redmist Sanctuary before going back to Heaven's Gate. But with the commotion she had created, there might not be enough time. However, rather than go there, perhaps, she could bring the elders here.

Thinking this, she knew what to do now.

"I... need to send a message."

Back at the site of destruction, the forces that remained to investigate were now scattered, checking for any remains. However, there was practically nothing to see.

"When that girl said that this place was no more, I didn't believe it but seeing it now... She was right, there's nothing here."

One of them said this while kneeling down grabbing a handful of the dirt and crumbling it in their hands. It was dry and lifeless, scorched by Ming Yue's attacks. That was all there was to it. Not even grass remained where Redmist Sanctuary was, just a burnt field of ash and dirt.

Han Xin squinted as he looked around, seeing nothing but that.

"Doesn't matter, we've got a job to do. Even if there is nothing, we have to make sure of it", he told them.

No one had anything to say to that.

After all, if they were to miss something important, it could end bearing consequences. If it came down to it, those consequences might even be catastrophic. Though in this case, everyone had bored looks on their faces. They weren't even halfway through the investigation before lowering their guard, in full belief that there was nothing left.

Unfortunately, that was not the case.

A short distance away from the Sanctuary's remains, hidden within the foliage of Mist Valley, there was a hatch on the ground. It sat there covered and untouched before there was a slight murmur underneath.

And then it popped open and a woman emerged from it, gasping for air. It was Bai Meng.

"Hah, hah, hah."

Climbing out of it, she crawled on the ground before resting against a tree, breathing heavily and looking as if she had been through hell. While there were no open wounds or broken bones, her limbs now had scars resembling that of lightning and they practically covered her arms and legs.

"What... what the hell happened?" she muttered, looking down at her scars, "Everything was going so well and then that surge of power just disrupted it. If I didn't get out of the formation in time, I would've died, all of that power would've killed me. But these scars... my cultivation... I'm weaker, comparable to someone in the first stage of the Earth Realm."

Realizing this, her face turned desolate, a saddened expression knowing that her plans had backfired.

"What now?" she asked herself, "What can I even do now? I don't even know what happened outside, I should see for myself."

Taking a few minutes to rest a little, she slowly got back up, supporting herself with the tree trunk. There was pain showing on her face as the fresh scars stung.

"Agh, it's like getting stabbed with countless needles."

She groaned from the pain but endured, slowly making her way back to Redmist Sanctuary.

"This is only a setback. As long as my mansion is still there, I have plenty of resources to fall back on. I can just take it away and go into hiding, that's it, that's all I need."

Thinking this, a shred of hope sprouted within her. Even if her plan failed, she had ways of dealing with it. She still had a chance to come back better and stronger.

The more she thought of it, the more she depended on it, this was hope and desperation.

Unfortunately, as Bai Meng arrived, the city she had expected to see was gone. She was shocked and confused, not knowing what to make of this.

"What... what even happened? I would get it if the city was in ruins but, nothing? There's nothing?!?!"

Indeed, all that she saw was flat land, there was nothing here that even remotely resembled a ruin. Her mansion was gone, the town square was no more, and even the formations that she painstakingly created were gone.

"There's really nothing."

With the last shred of hope gone, she could feel her strength fading away and she fell to her knees, looking at the emptiness. But there wasn't any time for her to relax just yet.

"Hm? I heard a sound somewhere! Could it be a survivor?"

"Quick! We should check it out, we can't have more people spreading news of this even more so for a survivor!"

The numerous voices shouted out, gathering together before moving towards where she was. They had to control this information as best as they could, even if it meant silencing witnesses or survivors.

Bai Meng's eyes widened as she got up as fast as she could and escaped, hobbling through the grass. She moved as quickly and as quietly as she could, trying her best to throw them off.

"Damn it, do I truly have nothing now? Everything that I've worked for is gone, why? Why now? Why do this to me now?"

Clenching her jaw in anger, all she could think about was the unfairness. She suddenly looked up, glaring at the blue skies above her.

"Is this a way for the Heavens to punish me? A trial? A tribulation? Is that it?! How have I not suffered enough, toiling away for myself? I did what I had to do to grow stronger, to have more authority! Even if it meant the death of my own comrades, so long as I could go further, that was all that mattered! The weak are meant to be stepped on, is that not the rule of this world?!"

She was angry, furious. Who else could she blame this on but the Heavens themselves, cursing them out even?

"I'll come back stronger, I'll be better. I'll show them, I'll show everyone that I deserve the power that I want!"

Making her escape, something suddenly slipped out of her sleeves, a letter it would seem. It caught her eyes as it fell to the ground, somewhat bent and dirty. She snatched it up before running off, not stopping until she could no longer hear Han Xin and the others.

When she did, she found herself in a different part of the valley where the mist was much denser. She looked around before finding a large tree that was hollowed out and hid within before taking the letter out.

"What was this again? A letter from someone called, Huxian Qie?"

Looking at it carefully, she opened it and started to read what was inside.
