Killing Spree

Ying Yi's men just stood there in awe, watching everything unfold before them. In short words, it was a one-sided massacre.

Although these evil cultivators did not have the Fourteen Evils leading them, there were second in commands and trusted personnel to take the lead. And although none of them were as strong as the Fourteen evils, they were not weak or inexperienced. Each and every one of them was terrifying on their own.

But despite that, despite the numbers and the power that they had, they could do nothing against the silvery light.

It was impossible to stop its path. It was far too quick and sharper than any of their weapons. And the daylight made it worse to follow, if it was still dark out, it would stick out like a sore thumb.

Even if they wanted to, none of them were able to escape it. How could they even think about finding the attacker when they couldn't even see what the silvery light was?

"Don't stay together! Scatter!"

Of the eighty followers, only thirty remained now. The others had died by the silvery light. The metallic scent of blood filled the air as blood flowed out from the bodies of the dead.

Those who were still alive quickly did as told, running in different directions. That way, the silvery light would need to travel more and take more time to kill them. And that meant more time to find the one attacking them or even escape.

As for their would-be attacker, Ming Yue wasn't very far away but she was well hidden.

Near the edge of the campsite, the young cultivator was leaning against a few trees. She furrowed her brows with a strained expression, concentrating as her finger slowly moved.

Wherever she pointed, the silvery light followed, killing one target after the other.

"Ah, the sword pendant... it would've been perfect if it wasn't so sensitive."

The little sword whistled as it flew, dancing around while piercing one person's skull or slicing another person's neck.

She was fully focused ignoring everything around her. She had to be careful after all, if she sneezed like the last time then there would've been no one to rescue.

"Just a few more."

Her finger twitched every now and then, a sign that another had been killed.

Within the camp, Ying Yi finally awakened, looking up and around him. He was still quite drowsy and weak, on top of that, confused.

"Wha- what's going on?" he asked aloud, looking at his subordinates.

All of them barely moved, stricken with awe. As for the one carrying him, they heard him the loudest and answered though, they seemed distracted.

"I don't know, I think that... someone is trying to rescue us. That's what we heard."

"What?"

Ying Yi's eyes widened as he took a closer look at his surroundings. Seeing the bodies around him was sobering, the countless dead and the pools of blood. He tried to walk forward only to stumble as his men caught him.

"Leader! What are you doing?!"

They all looked at him with concern but he just stared out.

"It can't be", he muttered.

He just looked out, watching as the last one died. It was just a quick shot through the heart and the silvery light flew off, vanishing from their sight. What followed was a short period of silence, one where everyone looked warily around them.

But then Ying Yi straightened up, standing on his own.

"I don't think that our rescuers will be revealing themselves", he said to them.

"But what should we do? How will we report this to the guild? Surely they'll send others to investigate."

"Right, should we not get to the bottom of this?"

They all turned to him, looking both curious and anxious. On one end, they were saved by this mysterious person but on the other end, they had no clue as to who this person was. And for them to have this much strength but not be known, that made them all afraid.

But for their leader, he was calm.

After all, he was certain as to who had come.

"We should retreat and report this to the higher-ups. As for what they'll do next, I'll have to speak with them. An event of this magnitude will not go unnoticed", he said.

The others nodded along before leaving without looking back. Ying Yi felt the white communication jade hum, letting out a small smile.

And they were gone just like that.

As it grew quiet once more, there was a bit of commotion as Ming Yue dropped down to one knee. The sword pendant flew back to her, returning to its place on her necklace.

She faced the ground, putting both hands on the floor before lifting her head up high.

"Hah, hah, it's over," she muttered to herself.

Both Xiao Yin and Hei Yue came by her side, nuzzling up to her and comforting the woman. Placing a hand on both of their heads, she gently stroked the top of their heads, looking at the Mistral Fox.

"Ah, you didn't get to have much fun. I know how much you were looking forward to stretching your legs", she said.

Hei Yue purred as if to say that they didn't mind.

Ming Yue smiled, looking towards the campsite where all the bodies were.

"Hah, I was hoping to avoid this but... how is this going to develop?"

Standing up, she leaned against a nearby tree, just staring at all of the people she had slain.

"Let alone the followers, six members of the Fourteen Evils died here. Everyone is going to find out and they're going to realize that something is strange."

Just as she was about to take a step forward, her gaze suddenly snapped toward the sky before hiding. Her presence receded as she practically made herself invisible but her gaze never broke, staring up at the skies.

Even Xiao Yin and Hei Yue were quiet as both beasts joined her in hiding.

All of them looked up at the sky where they saw a figure floating in the sky, looking down below. The figure was too far for any of them to see and none of them dared to reveal themselves.

Ming Yue had a wary look as she felt nothing from that person.

How was it that with her senses, she could not detect this person until now? That was a worrying detail. Even more worrying than that was the feeling they gave off as she fine-tuned her senses. It was a strange feeling, otherworldly in a sense.

"Who are they?" she wondered.

The young cultivator wanted to approach them but unfortunately, she blinked and they were gone. It was strange.

"I..."

In fact, she wasn't even sure if what just happened was real or if she was simply too tired. But when she turned to Hei Yue and Xiao Yin, she saw their looks, both beasts alert. Hei Yue's black fur stood on their ends and both beasts seemed to be poised to attack.

Seeing them like this, Ming Yue looked back up at the skies even though there was nothing there.

"Strange, how strange", she muttered.

Kneeling down, she went to calm the duo before making her exit from the scene. The longer she stayed, the higher the chances of her getting discovered. It would be especially bad if that person returned or if someone else from the Fourteen Evils came.

In her current state, escape, let alone another fight would be difficult.

But even as she left, seeing that figure in the sky was a worrying thought for her.

Who was that person? What were they doing here? Was she seen? 2

Ming Yue didn't know what to make of the situation. However, it was not until later that her worries would come to fruition.
