The Moon Suite

The steward had an interested look in his eyes as he leaned in just a bit. In a hushed voice, he asked her. 1

"What are you looking for?"

"Dragon Eye Berries."

The young cultivator answered and when he found out, he had a contemplative expression.

"This item... I will see what I can find about it. Is there anything else you wish to request from me?"

Ming Yue thought for a moment.

"What do you recommend for lodging and are there any restaurants around that I should try?"

Steward Qu smiled.

"Ah, do not worry about finding an inn, preparations have already been made."

He then turned over, speaking to the driver before turning back.

"As far as inns go, we've prepared a room for you at an inn known as the Sunlight Palace. It's a bit far so, we'll be moving a bit quicker to get there. While the Sunlight Palace will provide all meals, if you'd like to go out, there are a few places that I can suggest."

From then on, Steward Qu rambled about the sights and places to eat. It was certain that this was not the first time he's had to do so, being able to say so much in such a smooth manner.

Ming Yue listened intently, finding a few of these places interesting. The scenery passed by them in a blur as the horses galloped along the road. The ride itself was pleasant with the carriage barely shaking throughout the trip.

And soon enough, the carriage came to a stop, causing both Ming Yue and Steward Qu to look out of the window.

"Ah, we're here!"

He moved, opening the door to get out before holding it for her.

The young woman looked down, touching Xiao Yin and Hei Yue's sleeping bodies. With the steward droning on and on, both beasts could not stop themselves from falling asleep.

She gently shook them awake and though they stirred, it was clear that neither wanted to move.

"Ah, you two."

Ming Yue bent over, picking them both up in her arms before following the steward. Looking ahead, she saw a large building made from glass. It sparkled under the sunlight, giving off a brilliant aura. It was incredibly large and luxurious.

As they walked inside, she looked up to find chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The giant lobby was supported by pillars engraved in landscape scenery.

Steward Qu walked ahead, stopping at the counter to speak with the attendant whilst she just looked at her surroundings.

Ming Yue was certainly in awe of the dazzling display. It was all quite amazing to look at but at the same time, the young cultivator also felt something else.

"This is... a bit too much."

The discomfort was what she felt.

After roaming around, staying in inns and the homes of others, the Sunlight Palace was certainly better than them. It exuded luxury but it lacked that feeling of warmth that those places had.

She felt quite out of place. While she carried a sword and two beasts, there were many other guests dressed in fancier clothes, wearing makeup and jewelry even.

Ming Yue felt that she didn't quite fit but she couldn't exactly ask to change her accommodations. If all this was done for her, asking to change would be disrespectful to their goodwill.

In the end, she sighed, enduring a couple of stares as she walked up to the steward.

He turned around with a smile, handing over a jade talisman this time.

"This is the key to your room, someone else will guide you there. As for me, I'll be busy searching for any listings of the Dragon Eye Berries. I should have something for you in the next few days."

Steward Qu bowed before leaving. Ming Yue did the same, seeing him off before turning to see someone standing there with a smile.

They lowered their head greeting her.

"We welcome the Fairy of the Moon to the Sunlight Palace. Please follow me, I'll be taking you to the Moon Suite."

Turning around, the attendant stood on a lift, keeping the gates open for Ming Yue's group to enter before closing them. Pressing a button, the lift moved, ascending the floors until they reached the highest one.

When the lift was out of sight, the entire lobby was filled with quiet whispers and fervent conversations.

"Fairy of the Moon? Was that really her?"

"Why is she here? Could she be buying something? Or selling?"

"Mm, someone like her is bound to have many treasures!"

"Yes, yes, she is certainly someone worth investing in. I do wonder what it would take for her to part with her swords. even her old equipment could sell for a fortune to the right people."

"We should try to approach her, build up a connection, and see where that brings us."

"Someone as elusive as her... it wouldn't hurt to send an invitation over."

Many of them had taken notice of her from the very beginning, after all getting into the Sunlight Palace was no easy task. Though they didn't quite recognize her at first when the attendant addressed her by that title, it came as a shock to them.

But their minds worked quickly, weighing the pros and cons. They thought about her value, seeing her as nothing more than an opportunity.

And Ming Yue wasn't there for any of it.

When the lift stopped at the highest floor, the attendant opened the door letting them out and taking the group across the floor. Both beasts finally awakened, opening their eyes groggily before looking around.

Noticing this change in their surroundings, their eyes widened with curiosity before both of them wriggled out of Ming Yue's grasp.

"Hey, stop it you two. Stay close to me."

She firmly called for them whilst following the attendant who led the group toward a pair of doors made of white stone. Just like the pillars, these doors were engraved with a detailed scene of the moon in its many forms, hanging over the clouds.

The attendant moved to the side and lowered their head, allowing the young cultivator to open them herself.

Stepping forward, Ming Yue placed both hands on the doors and gently pushed them open.

"Oh."

Inside the Moon Suite was what she could only consider a full house within it. There were multiple rooms, a full kitchen as well as a dining room. The bath wasn't some wooden tub but a large porcelain bowl with spouts at the bottom. Filling it with hot or cold water needed nothing but a simple twist of the knob.

And the bed was large, for too much for one person.*

There were multiple dressers and drawers for her to use alongside dozens of extra little things that she truly didn't think she needed.

But aside from all this, the Moon Suite had one more aspect to it. One side of the entire suite was clear and looking out of it, she could see a good chunk of the kingdom. It was an amazing view, to say the least.

"It is called the Moon Suite because it has the best view when seeing the moon. And when it is at its closest, it would seem like it is within arms reach of you. Quite fitting for your reputation, I believe, There is wine for you to enjoy if you'd like but if you have a particular request feel free to let us know."

After saying their part, the attendant left and Ming Yue just stood by the window, looking at everything below her.

While the owl and fox were busy making themselves comfortable, she thought carefully about her next steps.

"Hmm, I don't have that much gold after all this time. Less than a million pieces and that is definitely not enough. I guess what I need to do right now is make some money."
