A Single Favor

Ming Yue was in a bind as the Splendid Goose looked at her. She opened her mouth to say something but couldn't think of a single thing.  1

The man stared at her intently, furrowing his brows. 

"Well then, if you don't have anything else to offer, I'll be going back."

Ming Yue suddenly stopped him as he turned to go, extending her hand toward him. 

"Wait! Wait, wait."

He stopped to look back at her, waiting to see what she was going to offer. The young woman's eyes darted a bit before meeting his gaze with her own. 

"I don't think that any of the treasures I have will entice you. And what may entice you are possessions I cannot give."

She placed a hand on Blood Moon as she said this before continuing on. 

"Because of this, I can only offer you a favor, you may ask anything of me and I will do my utmost to complete it. Perhaps it may not be much considering my own cultivation but I believe that my own reputation will vouch for me."

At this time, she used her title to her advantage. If a vast number of people recognized her as the Fairy of the Moon, it had to have some weight to it. 

The Splendid Goose was slightly taken aback by the proposal. He began to laugh loudly, looking at her. 

"Are the Dragon Eye Berries really that important to you?" he asked, "For what reason, do you need them?"

As the gaze they shared remained unbroken, he stared into her eyes trying to see what pushed her to such extremes.

However, her answer was all he needed, 

"My life depends on it."

Seeing the look in her eyes, he saw a powerful gaze, a determination to survive, a fire that was unwilling to die out. Realizing this, he knew that she was not lying, this young woman was willing to stake her life on it.

"I recognized you the very moment I saw you, the Fairy of the Moon. Seeing you with my own two eyes, you are as extraordinary as they say, quite a daring person", he told her. 

His face softened as he relaxed his shoulders, turning to leave the room. 

"I accept this offer. The Dragon Eye Berries in exchange for all the information you know about the dragon as well as a single favor from the Fairy of the Moon."

With a simple hop, he jumped out of the broken window, flying towards the main platform. 

Ming Yue stepped forward, looking out of the window and staring down at everyone. Countless of eyes were on her at this very moment, many of them committed her face to their hearts. It was one thing if she was just another merchant but someone who could exude such power could not be ignored. And those from the other viewing rooms, influential figures of many backgrounds, looked at her with interest. 

As for the woman in question, she noticed all of these eyes on her but the only thing on her mind was the Dragon Eye Berries. 

"I did it! Once the exchange is made, I can head straight to the Beast Continent and look for Senior Cheng Wei. I just hope that the Zodiacs are able to track him down or at least find some clues."

She felt a tug whilst in the middle of her thoughts and turned to see Steward Qu trying to pull her away from the broken window.

"What are you doing? They'll see your face at this rate!" he whispered with a hint of desperation.

Looking at his cowardly figure, Ming Yue tried to calm him down.

"What's the point in trying to hide? The Splendid Goose broke the window and exposed us to everyone. Besides, the exchange has already been made, what more can the others do?" she pointed out.

But the Steward just shook his head. 

"You don't understand. Now that everyone knows you're here, there will be plenty of people aiming for your life! Think about it, the moment you leave these walls, you'll be a target! Now everyone knows that you possess the Dragon Eye Berries! It'll be even worse when you leave the kingdom as there will be even less protection!" he warned, his voice trembling as it trailed off. 

"I just hope that they haven't recognized me yet, or I'll be hunted too!"

She raised a brow at him, questioning those words.

"But you work for the Financiers, you're a Steward. Why would they attack someone that works for the leaders of this kingdom."

Steward Qu just nervously laughed.

"You think that I'm important? Among all of the people in this Auction Hall, over half of them have enough power to do whatever they want with me. And they'll do it without having to face any punishment! They could torture me for all of the information I have of you. That is how dangerous it can be."

He told her this and even then, her expression barely changed. 

In fact, she kept a grasp on Steward Qu's shoulders, looking at him dead in the eyes. 

"I'll make sure that it doesn't happen. It won't happen at all."

The Steward took a deep breath, calming himself down with her help. Her calm demeanor made him feel a bit safer, just a bit.

"All right, I'll trust you but you should be careful. Never accept anyone's offer, no matter what. They will have nothing but false masks, the moment they can't have you, the moment they'll try to get rid of you."

"Don't worry."

Ming Yue nodded before leaving the room. She had achieved what she need to do and now she just had to wait until the berries were in her hands. 

"It won't be long now", she muttered to herself.

Down below, the Splendid Goose glanced up at the empty viewing room, seeing multiple workers of the Chamber of Gold clean up his mess. He narrowed his eyes while continuing his auction, looking around for Ming Yue but he didn't see her anywhere. 

Aside from him, there were plenty of others who still had her in their mind. Someone like her could prove to be a valuable asset, a great partner even, especially in the future.

"The Fairy of the Moon? Go find out where she's staying. Make sure to be respectful, having her on my side will be quite beneficial."

"Heh, so she managed to obtain the Dragon Eye Berries just like that, interesting."

While some were more curious about her than anything. Others did not have such kind thoughts. 

"The Splendid Goose didn't even tell us what he exchanged those berries for, I wonder what treasures she may have. We could act now or we could wait until she's left the city."

"As famous as she is, what can a single Sky Realm Expert like her do when surrounded?"

The quiet voices melded into one another as plans were being made.

Unbeknownst to the young woman, she may have been able to obtain the Dragon Eye Berries relatively easily but leaving with it may be more troublesome than she thought. However, there was one person who she'd had to keep an eye out for, the one she'd given a favor to. 

"To think I'd exchange those berries for some words and a favor from a junior. Maybe I'm getting a bit senile but... I wonder, what shall I ask of her? Explore some ruins maybe? Deal with some troublesome folks? Or maybe I'll save it for the future when she becomes stronger. Hm, I'll need a bit of time to think."

The auction neared its end as the Splendid Goose sold off the last of his items. After the Dragon Eye Berries, the remainder of the auction was rather quiet. And once it was finished, the exchanges would soon follow in the coming days.
