It's About Her
"The Divination Dao?!" said Ming Yue.
"Yes, it's said that she had reached a high level of control. I she really wanted to, she could've taken over as the Grand Researcher but stayed at the level of Overseer. Some say that she did it because she believed that it was her fate to become so", one of them revealed.
"Is that so..."
She was quite intrigued about General Huiyan.
"I wonder what happened for her to move like this", she muttered.
"Mm, things have been quite eventful. The many tribes of the Beast Continent have been at odds with each other. And since both humans and demons have been roped into it, there's quite a bit of tension."
Ming Yue furrowed her brows.
"Really? Could you tell me more?"
"Of course, while there haven't been any major incidents, there have been skirmishes regarding the ruins. Since reclaiming the lost land, there was a bounty of treasure to be found and whoever found it first could claim it", they told her.
"Then, what about the Zodiacs? Are they still diving into dangerous ruins?"
As she hadn't heard much about them while bak home, she was curious as to what they were up to now.
"The Zodiacs? Hmm, they've become a neutral force that dwells in the Den. Safe to say that place is under their control now. They still delve into ruins but only those that the other tribes have failed to enter. As far as we know, they have plans to head North soon."
"The North, you say? Why haven't they explored that yet?" she questioned.
"Well, the Savage Bests up there are still quite dangerous. On top of that, they say that they're still wary of some 'phantom'. It's quite strange since the Fortress Master didn't sense anything like that."
"Ah, I see."
The young cultivator kept quiet then, fully knowing that she was the source of those rumors. Aside from that, she asked a few more questions, trying to get a good understanding of the situation.
Not long after, the masked pair then stopped in front of a door and stood aside.
Still within the castle, they had brought her towards a more secluded part of it where people seldom came around. It wasn't because they wanted to isolate her but rather, this entire space was hers.
"This is where you will reside. It is a private room with enough space for you and your beasts to relax in. Anything that you need, you will be able to request through a communication module. Furthermore, your visitors are already inside and we shall take our leave now."
Having said their piece. the duo bowed before taking their leave.
Ming Yue saw them off before facing the door. With little expectations, she pushed it open and walked in. A small shadow suddenly rushed forward, wrapping their little arms around her waist and burying their face into her clothes.
"Eh, Hongyu?"
She looked down to find the little girl embracing her. Her hair which seemed to sparkle in the light had been braided into one tail. She wore a set of blue and white robes as well.
And of course, she had the sword that Ming Yue gifted her, hanging in a little scabbard on her back.
"What are you doing here?" she asked her.
Seeing the young girl gave her a bit of surprise and then the woman looked up to find someone else with her.
"Hm? Elder Shen? What are you doing here?"
Indeed the Spirit Elder was in front of her, sitting down by a table with a pot of tea beside him. Liang Wei was also there in his full form, the Twin-Tailed Mao was laying down with its body wrapped around the elder and the table. Two tails were waving around in the air.
Grabbing the teacup, he took a sip while looking at Ming Yue with a warm smile.
"Ah, I was wondering how long it'd take you to get here. As it seems, we didn't have to wait very long", he said, "It's very good to see you again, Ming Yue."
"I... yes, it has but... why are you two here? she asked him.
Both Xiao Yin and Hei Yue moved around excitedly, cuddling up to Hongyu before going off to greet Liang Wei and Elder Shen.
"Ah yes, it's good to see the two of you as well. Isn't that right, Bai Ying?"
Suddenly, a small white cat emerged from the shadows of the room, walking up to the group. Its eyes had a stern look to them as the cat looked at the two beasts before turning its attention to Ming Yue.
"Mm, yes. It's been quite a long time, several years it would seem. You look very different compared to the first time I saw you. Certainly less scrawny than before", Bai Ying said to her.
"Oh, Bai Ying, it really has been a long time."
Ming Yue was stunned by this. Having expected to travel with no one else but the owl and fox, she didn't think anyone would be waiting for her.
"Come sit, there's already a cup of tea waiting for you", said the Elder.
The young woman obliged but first, she knelt down and lifted Hongyu up, carrying the child over before setting her on her lap as she sat down.
Taking the teacup, she blew on it before taking a small sip. It was an earthy and fragrant aroma that filled her body with warmth. In an instant, her heart was calmed.
Seeing the change in her, Elder Shen chuckled while stroking his long white beard. From the white beard to the long eyebrows and the hair, they all seemed like they came from clouds, wispy and soft.
"Now then, to answer your question, in short, the little one here really wanted to see you. And o be quite frank, none of us had the heart to deny her that. So, when I heard from Fenhuag that you planned on returning to the Beast Continent, I figured that I'd bring her to see you", Elder Shen explained.
"From the Grand Researcher? And all for Hongyu?"
Ming Yue looked at the little girl who hasn't quite budged from her position, clinging ono the cultivator tightly.
"Did you really miss me that much, Hongyu?" she asked her.
She saw the child's head bob up and down so as to say yes.
"I see, I'm sorry. I should've come back to visit you sooner."
Ming Yue raised one hand before placing it on the back of Hongyu's head, petting her. It was then that Hongyu moved her face away from Ming Yue's clothes. The little girl then looked up at her and in the smallest voice possible, she spoke.
"Please?"
It was very small, very meek, and quite shy. However, Ming Yue heard it loud and clear.
"You can speak now? That's wonderful!"
She hugged the girl tightly before looking up at Elder Shen who nodded.
"Yes, she's still very shy when facing everyone else but I was able to help her learn to speak", he told her.
"That's... that's great! But since the two of you are here, will you be staying?" she asked him, "It will be dangerous if you choose to follow me."
"No! I want to come with you!"
Hongyu clung to her tightly, refusing to let go. Elder Shen just shrugged and gave her a hapless smile.
"Alright, alright, you can come", Ming Yue said to her.
Hongyu suddenly smiled, loosening her grip. And then, Hei Yue suddenly yelped, calling for the little girl's attention.
"Mm, looks like Hei Yue wants to play, why don't you go?"
Lifting her off, Ming Yue set the girl down, letting her run after the Mistral Fox. Both the young woman and the Elder watched in silence, smiling and the sight.
But then Elder Shen turned to her. 1
"It's a good thing that Hongyu went off, there's something that I have to tell you. It's about her."
