"Huo Mian, you don't have to apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. Rick feels bad about what happened to Qin Chu and can't seem to walk out of it… So it's normal for you to go and talk to him face to face since it's more sincere than talking over the phone. Rick being who he is can't come to see you at our place, since my grandpa will be investigated if the other soldiers find out that we have connections with the mob… So it's not your fault. Song Qingguo's just out of his mind."2

Once Su Yu calmed down, he realized that he didn't blame Huo Mian anymore – she was a person who knew her limits, and this incident was purely her being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"It's still my fault, I should've asked you to come with me," Huo Mian said, blaming herself.

"If you asked me to come with you, we would probably be all dead. My bodyguards aren't as good as my grandpa's," Su Yu laughed and replied. 

Huo Mian smiled… she knew Su Yu was trying to console her; she was grateful that Su Yu understood her intentions. "Thank you for understanding me…"

"Don't give me compliments, I'm still not going to give you your phone. Go to sleep, I'll call Rick and explain everything to him."

"Fine… you win." Huo Mian smiled helplessly upon seeing how determined Su Yu was and crawled into bed.

"Get some rest, we'll go home tomorrow morning," Su Yu consoled Huo Mian, and she nodded. "Mhm."

When Su Yu walked out, Mrs. Su was still standing outside Huo Mian's room.

"Yu, go home, I'll take care of Mian…"

"It's okay, Mom, you should head home. I'll stay here with her."

"But…" Mrs. Su hesitated, but Su Yu said, "I won't be able to sleep if I go home, it's better if I'm here. You should go."

"Okay then, can you drive Mian home tomorrow morning? Your grandpa's worried about her."

"I will."

After Mrs. Su left, Su Yu picked up Huo Mian's phone and called Rick, repeating Huo Mian's analysis to Rick to the best of his ability.

"That's what happened. Huo Mian doesn't want you to suspect that girl, so she told me to give you a call."

"Okay, I understand," Rick said before hanging up the phone.

"Sir… didn't we find out that Miss Xixi didn't have anything to do with what happened today? Song Qingguo put people around Young Master Su's home so they could monitor Miss Huo Mian. She would've gotten hurt today, regardless of whether or not she came out to see you. Miss Xi was at the wrong place at the wrong time… She must be heartbroken right now by the way you treated her."

"Then let her… the truth is, it's good for Xixi to leave me," Rick said faintly.

"Boss, you…"

"I knew it wasn't her. I've known her for so long, of course, I know the kind of person she is. I just think… Xixi deserves better than me. There are so many things I can't do with her, things that a normal boyfriend can… like watching movies, shopping, going to amusement parks, and so on. I can't do any of those things, because I have to be careful, so most of the time she has to come here to spend time with me. When Huo Siqian kidnapped her last time, I made up my mind to break up with her. I can't drag her into my messed up life; she's a normal person, I can't make her live a life of guns and daggers with me… this is the best ending for everyone."

Then, Rick turned around tragically.

His men looked at him, feeling sad; but Rick was right – leaving Xixi was better than her being caught by his enemies and slaughtered.

After Huo Mian fell asleep, Su Yu sat on the couch and did work on his laptop while eight bodyguards stood outside, securing the premises.

Just then, his phone buzzed.

"Yu, what happened? I heard Huo Mian was shot?" Wei Liao's voice sounded from the other end.
