"Yes, I did. But, it was boring, so I probably won't go anymore," Huo Mian said quietly. 2

"Heh, is that so? I'm guessing… everyone talked about me? After all, it was my own fault for ending up like this," Wei Dong had some idea of how everyone spoke of him.

"You'd be exhausted if you always live within others' words. Don't let it get to you too much," Huo Mian comforted.

At this time, the waiter served up two bowls of hot, steaming, noodle soup. On a snowy day like this, it looked extremely delicious.

Huo Mian had no goddess image that she wanted to maintain, so when she dug in, you would never find her being restrained and eating like a lady. Instead, she ate with big bites that made anyone looking at her feel like the food must be very appetizing. 

Wei Dong was a little surprised at first, and then silently watched her in awe. This was a scenario that he never dared to dream of.

"What are you looking at? The food will get cold if you don't dig in soon," Huo Mian reminded.

The two of them stayed silent for a couple of minutes, focusing entirely on the food. Wei Dong ate in big bites as well and drank the soup one spoon after another. 

"How are you nowadays? Is your mom doing okay? What is she diagnosed with? Is it serious?

"It's been okay. Her diagnosis hasn't been too positive. She's staying at First Hospital, and she also had surgery. There are a lot of things to consider after her surgery, but mostly it's cardiac failure."

"I see… Don't let this bring you down too much. Take good care of her, everything will be alright."

"I know, I'm okay. It's been like this for a while now. At first, it was uncomfortable because I wasn't used to it. But now, I've accepted it. Heh heh. Isn't there a joke on the internet recently that goes something like this? At a time where God closes a door on you, don't be sad, because he might let in a dog as well," Wei Dong chuckled.

Huo Mian smiled and added, "Yes, and there is another joke that goes if you're not happy and satisfied today, don't fret and don't be depressed, because you might notice that tomorrow just might be worse than today!"

Wei Dong laughed out loud upon hearing Huo Mian's joke. "I didn't know you had such a humorous side." Wei Dong smiled genuinely for the first time in a long time. He was no longer who he used to be, he didn't need his disguise anymore.

"I've always been a jokester, you just didn't know me that well." Huo Mian smiled.

"Yes, the one that understands you the most is still Qin Chu. He is so lucky to have you. It's a good thing I backed out, knowing the difficult road that lay ahead. Haha!" Wei Dong chuckled to himself and continued, "Remember when I thought I was all that, and even wanted you to marry me? I was like a toad that wanted to eat the meat of a swan." 

"I'm not a swan, at most, an ugly duckling," Huo Mian responded.

"The ugly duckling turned out to be a white swan, it's the classic story of beating the odds," Wei Dong joked.

"Nope, the ugly duckling turned out to be a white swan because its parents were swans. It had good DNA, and it had nothing to do with beating the odds."

"Haha, fine, you're just out there crushing my dreams with these toxic chicken noodle soup stories, eh?" 

"Sometimes, this is how life is. Sometimes, what you needed wasn't a bowl of chicken noodle soup, but rather a slap. Wei Dong, look on the bright side. There will always be difficulties in life, but the show must go on. A person's life is obviously full of ups and downs."

"I know, I'm over it."

"What about your fiancée? Is she…"

"It's all normal. She stayed with me from the beginning for the money. So, it's no surprise that she left when I went bankrupt. I don't blame her." Wei Dong smiled.

"Do you have any plans for the future?" Huo Mian looked into Wei Don't eyes and asked in a serious tone.
