65 Just a little push (AVOT)

Lying against Rhain's chest, Daisy felt the coolness of his body beneath her cheek, a sensation that was initially uncomfortable. With time, however, either his body warmth rose to meet her, or she simply grew accustomed to the chill of his form.

As the rhythmic patter of rain and the soft crackling of firewood filled the room, Rhain's fingers traced delicate patterns on her back, lulling her into a state of contemplation.

Her thoughts danced around the notion of children. She pondered whether Rhain too yearned for them, or if the pain in his eyes was solely because he couldn't provide her with that.

If he too longed for offspring, the reality of their situation would surely weigh heavier on his heart. For now, she wasn't mourning the loss of motherhood; she was grappling with understanding it. Would she mourn in the future? She didn't know, but one thing she knew for sure. She wanted to be with Rhain.

Especially after today, she felt a strong need to be with him, to be able to hold him tightly again. Their fight had made her discover how she truly felt about him. She was falling for this man, falling deeper each day.

And while she might experience natural parenthood, she knew she had the kind of husband she dreamed of. One that took well care of her and her mother.

She pondered Rhain's own adoption story, imagining the adversity he must have faced in his formative years. The prospect of transforming a child's destiny, showering them with boundless love, filled her heart with warmth. The very thought of it awakened a fierce protectiveness within her. Of course, Rhain's nature would complicate matters, but she believed in his uncanny ability to hide his true nature, and he would never harm a child.

"If we were to adopt," she began hesitantly, "would you prefer a boy or a girl?"

Rhain paused before answering, "It doesn't matter. Just that we form a genuine connection with them, ensuring it's right for all involved."

Daisy's heart fluttered, her smile widening at his consideration. The image of Rhain as a father painted itself vividly in her mind's eye.

He had the patience for it, and the caring nature. He was stern enough to raise them to be disciplined, he had vast knowledge he could share with them, he was mischievous enough to be playful with them, he could cook for them, put them to bed, and protect them. She sighed. Yes, she loved the image.

But the hunters he told her about kept gnawing at the back of her mind. Rhain said he would tell her more tomorrow and that he had something to show her. That made her a little nervous, but she ignored it. Tonight, she wanted to enjoy this moment.

Their fingers tangled together, and in a gentle motion, Rhain adjusted their position. He leaned over her, his intense gaze deepening, before sealing their lips in a lingering kiss. A blaze of heat spread through her as he deepened the kiss, their breaths mingling.

She barely noticed when her hand began to roam, trailing up his chest, feeling the taut muscles beneath. It was then that she felt it, a pulsating rhythm. It was sudden, and very prominent, as if it was beating right beneath his skin.

He pulled back, noticing her distraction. "What is wrong?"

"Your heart?" She said.

"Ah…" He said, as if just realizing. "It is beating now."

"Now?" She smiled, unsure.

He put his hand above hers. "My heart is dead. It doesn't beat." He told her. "Only certain things bring it alive, makes it beat."

She frowned. "You mean it doesn't beat at all? except for certain times?"

He nodded. "Yes. That is why I am cold. When my heart doesn't beat, there is no blood flowing in my veins."

"Oh. So when you are hot… your heart beats."

"Yes."

"Why sometimes?" She wondered.

"Certain feelings awaken a vampire's dead heart. Things like intense excitement, fear, anger… arousal."

"Oh…" Was all she mustered to say, but then, feeling his hot chest beneath her fingers, the next words out of her mouth were unplanned. "I shall keep you hot then," she said.

He looked at her as if he wanted to devour her before doing so. He took her mouth in a fiery kiss that made her entire body taut with tension. She pressed her thighs together, already feeling that familiar throb beginning between her legs.

His mouth moved from her lips, tracing a path of fire along her jaw, descending to the sensitive skin of her neck. Meanwhile his hand ventured lower, brushing over the swell of her breast, grazing her hardened nipples. She moaned and arched into his touch as he continued lower, his fingers trailing over her stomach, down to her pelvis, and then he sought entrance between her legs.

With each fleeting touch, she felt an electrifying thrill. An involuntary reaction made her legs press together, yet the need, the desire, urged her to grant him access. Her body responded even before her mind could catch up, parting her legs in anticipation. She gasped when his fingers deftly found the most sensitive spot, teasing and exploring to find the rhythm that made her entire breath grow shallow, and when he found that spot, that rhythm, he kept it.

Her breaths turned into gasps and then moans, muffled by his mouth on hers. Her legs opened wider, seeking more, and when she couldn't bear it, she shut them with his hand still trapped there.  He smiled against her lips before pulling away.

"I don't want you to think getting you naked was an excuse for this," he smiled enigmatically, drawing his hand away from where it was trapped.

"It wasn't?"

"No. Was it what you hoped for?"

Eh…

"No!" She said, just because he hadn't been planning on it. She wasn't going to go back on her word.

"No?" He looked skeptical, then leaned down, placing soft kisses on the side of her face and down her jaw. "Maybe you will admit, yes."

Absolutely not! That wasn't why she undressed. It was, in fact, to prove it was an excuse on his part.

Rhain nestled his face in her neck, gently suckling and leaving soft nips on her skin. Then he made his way down her collarbone while his hand moved up, cradling her breast as if feeling its weight. It seemed to  grow heaving under his touch, her nipple hardening in anticipation.

He ascended her throat, reclaiming her lips, while simultaneously kneading her breast. He deliberately avoided her hardened tip, pushing her anticipation until she could barely stand it. Finally, he brushed his thumb over it, eliciting a tremor that ran through her.

"No?" he murmured, voice husky against her lips.

"No," she echoed, breathless.

He deepened their kiss as he gently pinched and rolled her nipple between his fingers. She gasped in response.

"Yes?"

"No!"

His smirk was playful. "You will say please," he whispered mischievously.

Absolutely not! Defiantly, she slapped his hand away, but he caught her arms, pinning them to her sides. As he lowered his head towards her chest, the protest forming in her throat died away. Anticipation gripped her.

The sensation of his tongue tracing delicate patterns around her sensitive tip nearly undid her. She trembled as he traced circles around it, before a flick of his tongue made her release a shaky breath.

Rhain took her into his mouth, the warmth and pressure of his lips and tongue threatening to send her into oblivion. After providing the same tantalizing attention to the other one, he paused, letting her catch her breath, his lips hovering over the valley between her breasts.

"Please," he whispered.

"No," she managed, though her voice wavered.

"Lower then," he said with a sultry murmur as he continued his journey down her body, to her stomach, and lower.

She instinctively closed her legs, trying to halt his advance, but as if all the strength in her clasp was nothing, he easily parted them.

"No!" In a mix of shock and desire, she grabbed his hair, pulling enough to have time to crawl away and sit up, legs clasped again.

He looked at her, his gaze was teasing. "Still no?" He raised an eyebrow. "If you'd let me, I assure you it'd be a yes."

Determined, she retorted, "It won't be." She noticed the calm control in his voice, contrasting with her own breathlessness. How was he so composed while she felt so undone?

He chuckled softly, lying back with a relaxed smile. "Very well, you win." He said that, but that wasn't really why he gave up. He thought he gave her enough to be on edge for a while.

"Come here," he beckoned gently, holding his arm out.

She looked at him with suspicion. "Why do I feel I didn't win?"

He chuckled. "With me, it is a win even if you lose."

"I am not sure about that," she said.

"Let me convince you," He beckoned her again, and this time she nestled against him. "Tomorrow, I'll prepare breakfast for you and your mother," he promised.0

"She'll be even more taken with you."

"That is the plan." He tenderly kissed her hair.
