I HOPE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND

Before Raine could even finish what she was saying, Torak turned his head to look at her. He trapped Raine's face between his palms. Above him, there they were, Raine's beautiful eyes. They were blinking like stars. "Thank you for staying with me."2

Raine needed to bend her body, so that Torak could kiss her.The kiss didn't last for long, but it surely warmed the hearts of both creatures in love. Then, he got up and pulled Raine so close to him. He wrapped the both of them inside the warm blanket.

Raine used Torak's upper arm as a pillow while wrapping her arms around his waist. To her, it was the warmest and comfortable feeling that she had ever been, after so long. She didn't want this moment to last. If ever she could stop the time now, she would, so that she could always stay like this with Torak. She wanted to always be able to do this with Torak.

Raine nuzzled her head against Torak's neck, and she said, "I'm still upset, and sad though... because Serefina burned my mother's diary." she whined. "She didn't have the right to do that…"

"I know." Torak rubbed her back soothingly. "I wish I could stop her in time."

"Torak…" Raine stared at him, looking a little bit reluctant about what she had in mind. "Would you mind telling me about what exactly happened those years ago in the Village of Angels?" She said, attempting to bring back the topic to surface. After all, Torak had promised her to answer her question about this.

"I'll tell you the truth, but please don't judge me…" Torak sighed deeply, his body tensed up. He was afraid Raine would see him as the beast he was.

As Torak the ruthless, and cruel monster.

The two things that could describe him perfectly. Although it was fair enough to say that it was all true, that it was who he really was. He just didn't want Raine to see him that way.

Raine wasn't sure if she should nod her head agreeing to it, or not. Because she didn't know what she was about to find out. She was afraid about these things that were unknown to her. She had no choice but to keep silent, and let Torak start his explanation.

"True, that it was me, and my brothers who were behind the order of the attack on the Village of Angel." Torak started it by admitting the crucial part. "But, it wasn't us who wanted that in the first place. We received an order." When he used the word 'us', he was referring to himself, and his brother.

"Who was it?" Raine frowned. Who would be this powerful, enough to order him and his brother? Because based on what she heard, and her limited understanding, Torak wasn't the type of an individual who would take an order willingly. It applied the same to his two brothers, they wouldn't be so different from him, right?

"Selene. The Moon Goddess." Torak said her name impassively. He couldn't hate the Goddess like he used to do in the past. Because she kept her promise by bringing Raine to his life. His mate, the only person that meant the world for him.

Torak couldn't live the rest of his existence without Raine after he found her. He didn't know what he would end up being, if he had to live without her now. Trying to look back to the past, he just couldn't remember how he lived his life all these past centuries without her.

Everything from the past seemed to be just some blurry meaningless memories in his mind. No matter how hard he tried to remember those years when he lived without her in the past, these new moments he had now with Raine was clearer in his mind. If ever he could be shameless, he would've said that having Raine in his life was like being reborn into a new life.

"The Goddess?" Raine asked incredulously. She only knew about Goddess from books, and stories that she read in the past. Never had she imagined that there was actually a real Goddess. Because all this time, she thought that Goddess was only a myth, something that only existed in the books, and fairytales.

But, if she had to think about it again, the existence of this Goddess was just like those supernatural creatures. They were considered to be just a myth by most people, when in reality they were real. In fact they lived among us, and sometimes could appear to be just like any other humans.

"Yes, my love. The Moon Goddess." Torak confirmed it, he could understand with Raine's confusion. "She didn't approve the selfish rule that the Shadow Warriors set for the Guardian Angels."

"So, are you saying that the Moon Goddess gave an order to kill them all?" Raine asked. She was extremely baffled by this sudden revelation. Why would a Goddess command something so cruel like that?

"No." Torak denied. "The Moon Goddess only ordered us to take the guardian angel away from the shadow warrior. Aside from that, there was another more important reason why we needed to take the guardian angel."

"About the attack…" Raine said, suddenly her mind trailed back to the day of the attack in the Village of Angels.

"That was me, and my brothers' order." Torak repeated the information. "The shadow warriors refused to give up all the guardian angels. That was within my expectation of course. As a result, the attack was something that we couldn't avoid. Because for us the lycanthropes, realistically speaking, brute force, and violence are the only way that we know of how to solve problems. It came naturally for us."

Torak tried to explain his perspective, hoping that Raine could understand his decision and why such a decision was chosen to be executed during that time. No matter what she would think about him after this, Torak decided to come clean with Raine. Because he couldn't find himself fooling, and lying to her.

For the creatures who lived in the ancient era, brute force was the only method to achieve goals of something they desired, especially if being put in a situation when the other party refused to obey their demands. And as for the lycans, they were always on the top of the food chain. So, a disobedience act wasn't something that they could tolerate. It was in their nature.

Raine didn't give any reaction for a few minutes. She tried her best to absorb the information, understanding the argument that Torak gave.

"Can you say something?" Torak became anxious when he saw Raine was at loss. "I didn't try to justify the decision, but I want you to understand the situation at that time."

"You tried to kill me at that time…" Raine said, suddenly reminiscing to what happened to her at that time. She remembered it all, and the thought of it instantly frightened her.

Torak frowned when he heard that. "Did we meet with each other?" He tried to recall the event in his head, but that occurred centuries ago. He didn't remember much about the details.

"No." Raine sighed deeply, and then told him what had happened the day of the attack. "Someone informed you that I am your mate. But in response, you gave an order to kill me instead."

"No, no, no…" Torak hugged Raine tightly. "There must be a misunderstanding somewhere. I don't remember anyone mentioning anything about you being my mate to me during that period of time."

He was very sure about this. Since, the curse from the Moon Goddess was well known by other creatures that the Donovans wouldn't be blessed with mates, no one ever dared to mention it in front of them. So, if ever someone was telling him anything about mate, Torak would likely remember that.

"No?" Raine asked him, befuddled. She remembered clearly that one of the Lycan went away to relay the information about her. "But… There was one lycan who informed you…" Maybe he forgot?

Torak shook his head firmly. "No. I will remember that if ever there was someone who mentions about mate to me, because the word 'mate' was a taboo topic."

"Why?"
