CAN WE TALK?
"You can't do that, luna, you will broke us," Eron whined.
"More so, you will not be able to go out with us, because we are going to a cheap restaurant. It's not a place that you would like to visit," Dyne added.
"Luna, why didn't you tell me that you are able to hear now? I thought we are close," Ethan complained, he still hung up with the fact that Iris kept it secret from him. He started to think what else he had said in her presence when he thought she couldn't hear. Did she hear his complain for the alpha?
Well, sometime Ethan couldn't wrap his head with the alpha's action and chose to grumble in a form of complain, but without Cane's presence.
"Oh, please, drop the subject." Eron elbowed the gamma. "It's a good thing, so stop whining."
Ethan pursed his lips. Eron and Dyne were close with Iris, but Ethan was a constant presence in her day to day time, thus they wouldn't understand his feeling when he knew Iris could hear in such abrupt way.
Seeing the gamma was being dejected because Iris didn't let him know, made the luna tiptoed and whispered to his ear. "Jace has not yet known about this too."
In a matter of second, the gloomy cloud on his face cleared up. "Really?"
Iris nodded and she could tell that Ethan was feeling better now, knowing Jace was also clueless about it.
"It's okay for us to bring the luna, she needs to know her own pack, right? More so, all of us will be there, so what are you worrying about?" Ethan said righteously in light mood, which made Dyne and Eron wanted to punch his face because of how fast he changed his tune.
"Are you trying to be on the luna's good side?" Eron frowned. "You two faces, jerk."
"Do you think the alpha will agree, if the luna went to that part of the pack? There will be a lot of stinky warriors and guards there. It's not appropriate for her to be there," Dyne added.
And with that, Ethan found another people to bicker, while Redmond had been away since Cane sent Sofia to live outside of the pack house.
On the other hand, the other five warriors had this deep furrow between their brows to see the three of them squabbled over something trivial, but what made hem even more confused was to see how comfortable the luna was to be among them. She didn't look as timid as they used to perceive her.
More so, they could tell that she was teasing them with their stupid bet.
"She is good," Kian said in low voice, as they followed behind the four of them. "She even asked the alpha to release us."
"Let's see what she is up to." Asher stared at Iris's back, which she could sense it and turn around to smile softly at them. As if being caught red handed, Asher immediately averted his gaze and because of how surprised they were, none of them reciprocated her smile.
More so, they didn't use to joke around or smile aimlessly.
======================================
Maria felt so frustrated, she had been asking to meet with the alpha regarding Sofia, but her visit was always being rejected. She was denied access to the pack house, even more to be in close proximity with the alpha.
The order was clear that she needed to take care of Sofia.
But, what Maria disagreed was; how cold and callous the alpha was to the woman, who was carrying his child. How could he drive her away from the pack house? And only gave one annoying warrior to stand guard for her, while he gave the luna seven of them.
"This must be because the luna has instigated it. Alpha Cane that I know is not someone like this. He is a responsible person," Maria said, as she cleaned Sofia's legs, since she was having a hard time to take care of herself due to her pregnancy.
On the other hand, Sofia didn't say anything. She didn't try to stop Maria from trying to get justice for her, because she was sent away, neither she intended to tell her that the baby was actually not the alpha's. It seemed, she was still holding onto a hope, the baby was actually Cane's and what he said that night was only to scare her.
She refused to believe, the person that she slept with that night was Redmond, instead of the alpha! She believed, the alpha did this because he was infatuated with his mate and rather heartless to an outsider like her.
But at the same time, she couldn't deny this nagging feeling, where she started to doubt her own memory regarding that night…
She couldn't remember the detail, but all she recalled was how satisfied she was and that was the best night ever.
"Sofia, don't be angry. You will hurt the baby," Maria said in gentle voice, seeing how Sofia gritted her teeth. "Deliver the baby safely, I am sure, once the alpha saw the baby, his heart will melt to know he becomes a father."
"Hm." Sofia lowered her head. She didn't dare to look at Maria in the eyes again.
And right at that time, they could hear a commotion from outside, which was something that always happened, whenever Redmond entered the house.
Yes, it was Redmond, who was appointed as the warrior, who would stay by her side.
Actually, Redmond's assignment was as Iris's personal warrior, but his spot had been replaced by seven people and, even though he was grumbling and badmouthing Cane behind his back, he didn't really refuse the new assignment either.
"Maria! You old hag! Come out now!" Redmond screamed from the living room. They could hear a loud thud from there, as the warrior put down something so big and heavy. "How dare you use me to carry this thing!"
Meanwhile, Maria looked fed up by Redmond's antic, as she stormed out of the bedroom and started to reprimand him. "This is for the baby! Where do you think the baby will sleep when they are born?! You dimwit!"
"You should ask someone else to carry it! Not me!" Redmond glared at her, which made the old woman flinched, she was scared, but stubborn to not back down.
"You are here because the alpha told you to take care of his pregnant woman!"
"I am here, because I need to keep my eyes on her, it's different thing! More so, didn't it occur to you, the alpha has rejected her by sending her away, until when you are going to deny this fact? I thought, you are only stupid, but apparently you are retarded."
Maria scoffed. "The alpha will regret his decision once the baby was born."
"Or maybe you are the one, who will regret it," Redmond mocked Maria, but his eyes fixed on Sofia, who was laying on the bed and watched the fight, she immediately averted her eyes.
Sofia had been stringing Maria along with her hopeless pray that the baby was the alpha's.
"Now, help me to arrange the crib."
"Do it, yourself. I am not your maid."
After saying that, Redmond stormed out of the house, leaving Maria, who was cursing at him to no end.
===========================
Iris was joking and being playful with Ethan, Eron and Dyne, as they headed toward the dinning hall. After a long day, they were starving and felt like they could gobble up the entire meal, especially those warriors, who had been spent their time in the dungeon.
The night was so quiet and the sadness from losing so many packs member still hang in the air, but with everything that happened and the predicament of their situation had not yet completely gone, they managed to go through the day by busying themselves with a lot of things.
Especially when the pack had to be rebuilt again, since there were so many buildings were being destroyed during the attack.
They handled the mourning period well, if you could say it into words, probably because they had lost so many people before, though it would never be easy.
When the nine of them were about to turn at the corner, Iris saw someone that she almost forgot that was actually there.
It was Nala.
She was standing at the side, staring at Iris, as if wanting to speak with her, but because Iris was not sure what to do, she pretended not to see her.
However, Nala blocked their way, by standing in front of them.
"What do you want?" Eron asked, he frowned. He had never liked this woman, ever since she had been trying to seduce the alpha.
"I want to talk with her," Nala said with her clear voice. She looked pale and skinnier. Even though she still looked beautiful, but you could tell there was something dimmed inside of her. She was not as bright as before.
"'Her'?" Dyne frowned. "You are in Howling Wolf pack, show some respect to the luna of the pack."
Nala gritted her teeth, her pride self wouldn't allow her to address Iris as someone above her station, but then her pride wouldn't make her to be able to survive.
"Luna Iris, can I have your time? There is something I want to talk about with you," Nala said in more polite tone, she tried her best to hold back her tears and anger.
"What do you want to talk about?"
"Can we talk just the two of us?"
"No," Iris replied firmly.
