HOLDING GRUDGE

Cane listened to the report emotionlessly. His expression didn't change at all, but in truth, this was how he used to be whenever Iris was not in the picture. He would always have this cold and callous aura around him, as if he was aloof to the world. 

"What are you going to do now? Koda lost the battle and Alan has reclaimed his position as the future king of the continent with the help of Golden Light pack and the royal sorcerer." Ethan frowned deeply. He could sense more trouble in the future. "Moon Dew pack, alpha Gallot sent people to help with the royal as well when one of the royal sorcerers managed to escape and deliver the message to him. It's still unknown what the royal offered to him, but in the end, he agreed to help them, which is the main reason Koda's defeat."

Golden Light pack was the biggest pack, before Cane claimed all the packs in the south, where their pack member used to be the royal guards and warriors. Therefore, their force couldn't be taken lightly. 

While Moon Dew pack had various people from this realm, since it was the place, where the black market was located, no matter how awful alpha Gallot was, his connection was not something you could look down upon and it would really help with power struggle. 

"What about Celestial Moon pack? Where they are standing?" Cane had not yet received any letter from alpha Derick since the last time and now he got news that Kellan had fled to that pack. 

It was easy to predict that Kellan would escape to the north pack, since Howling Wolf pack and Celestial Moon pack were his biggest support in the past when he was still the crown prince, but because of the route, it was way easier to reach the north than to the south of the continent. 

"There is still no declaration from alpha Derick." Ethan then added. "This is the most recent news. Our men used the fastest hawk, so at the very least, all of these happened yesterday."

Cane was deep in thought and Ethan didn't bother him, knowing his alpha must be thinking of their next steps. 

Currently, the continent was divided in three, where all the pack in the south was completely claimed by Cane and the capital city was under the control of Alan and people from the Golden Light pack and Moon Dew pack. Koda and his Red Claw pack joined hand with Winter Moon pack to put his baby great grandson to be the next king, in which made Koda his regent until he came to age. 

Of course, the idea came from Cane when he sent him back to the capital city to deal with the royal after the death of the king. 

However, Celestial Moon pack had not yet declared their stand, as they were still struggling with the wave of monster attack. 

Without the king, whoever had scattered Asturi Stem in the north area, would have stopped their action immediately and the monster wave should be decreased soon. Alpha Derick failed to catch the culprit, who had done it. Moreover, all of that was Cane and his theory only, since the former caught Alan in the black market to purchase the Asturi Stem from Lou. 

"If there is a message from Koda, tell him to find me himself." Cane only gave that instruction after he was thinking for a while. 

"Do you think Koda will send you a message? Will he ask you to help with the battle against the royal?" Ethan frowned, but then he stopped himself. He knew Cane wouldn't answer such question, it was only his habit to ask for more detail. 

However, to his surprised, Cane actually gave him a brief explanation. 

"Koda is under the assumption our pack is on his side and to have seven pack in the south to be his ally, is a great boaster for their chance to strike back, the only reason why he could understand why I didn't send any help is because he saw it himself the seven packs have not yet unified and I am still working on it." Cane paused. "Hint him that I need time to prepare the seven packs to be his back up, but be vague with your words. It will give us time without any interference for some time."

Cane needed to decide whether he would take the Silver River pack and Diandem pack within his territory or not. His next step would be depended on it. 

"Oh… okay…" Ethan was flabbergasted to receive such explanation. He was in awed that Cane actually explained thing to him, instead of simply giving him an order to accomplish like usual. It would be a pain in the ass to get anything out of his mouth. 

Was this because of the luna's effect? 

However, Cane's next words snapped the gamma back to the reality. 

"You will be part of the wolf warrior during our journey to the Silver River pack, you will take Oliver and Dean's role as well because I will send the two of them ahead of time to check the situation in the Silver River pack," Cane said, which made Ethan widened his eyes. 

Wolf warrior was those warriors, who would run in their wolf form during their journey, usually, there would be two leaders for two groups of the wolf warriors, as each leader and group took turn to run in their wolf form and riding a horse alternately. 

Initially, it was Oliver and Dean, but without the two of them and Cane appointed Ethan directly, it meant, he needed to take the role and will spend the whole journey to the Silver River pack in his wolf form without a break, unless they stopped for the night!

"Cane! How can you be so cruel?! What have I done wrong?" Ethan wailed, his voice full with grief, but a glance from Cane was enough to remind him of his sin for taking Iris to the tavern the other night, thus he immediately clamped his mouth. 

On the other hand, Cane didn't say anything and turn around to find his mate. 

"He is holding a grudge… I thought he forgot about it already," Ethan grumbled. 

The gamma had been trying his hardest to avoid Cane and when he thought the alpha had never summoned him and there was no punishment that came to his face, he actually lowered his guard and approached him on his own. 

But actually, Cane intentionally did that. He was messing with his mind by giving him a hope that he actually could escape his punishment. 

"Should I change my loyalty toward the luna instead? She looks more like a safer option." Ethan contemplated that. Iris was too kind and she would never give him such cruel punishment. More so, she was way easier to be pleased…

Iris knocked on the door. She wanted to visit Joel as often, but she couldn't do that because there were a lot of things she needed to do and take care of.  0

"Joel. I bring you this." Iris poked her head into the room and found the young warrior stared at the window.
