THE BEATING HEART

After Cane sorted out a few things and alpha Dristan, Sir Elijah and their men had settled, he went to the bedroom and found Iris had already fast asleep. She curled herself in the edge of the bed, while her auburn hair scattered on the pillow. 

Cane approached her and kissed her forehead, as he put her in the middle of the bed, worried, she might fall if she was too close to the edge. 

After that, he cleaned himself and went to the bed with her. 

He pulled her closer to him and buried his face against the crook of her shoulder, breathing in her scent, as Iris let out a small whining voice, while still asleep. 

Only then, Cane felt at peace and he could get the rest he needed. 

In the morning, Cane was woken up by an unfamiliar smell, as he felt someone entered the bedroom. Thinking it must be one of the maids, who brought breakfast, he didn't think much of it. 

However, when this person came closer, Cane was alerted, he opened his eyes and didn't move at all. Iris was still fast asleep by his side, comfortably snuggling against his chest, as her warm breathing caressed his skin and her lips on his neck. 

Cane's dark eyes turned sharp when he felt this person came closer and closer and before whoever it was could touch him, he caught their hand and pushed them away. 

"Ah!" Sofia screamed when she was being pushed, thankfully, she could steady herself in time before she could fall and harm the baby in her stomach. "Al- alpha!" She stuttered to see Cane was already in sitting position, glaring at her with so much viciousness. 

"Who allowed you to come here?" Coldness trickled from his words. It was clear to see the alpha didn't appreciate the fact he was woken up by her. 

Sofia whimpered, as she caressed her bulging stomach. She was already six months pregnant, so it was showing now. "Alpha, I brought breakfast for you," she said in small voice. 

She was so excited when she heard the alpha would return last night, but because of her pregnancy, she was very sleepy and missed to welcome him when he arrived. 

"Get out," Cane said in deep voice, while Iris was still sleeping, she was not even aware of the predicament of the other woman. 

"Alpha… I… you almost harm our baby…" Sofia said in low voice, as she rubbed her stomach in the most gentles way. 

Cane's eyes dimmed when he saw it. For a moment, he said nothing, as if there were a lot of things that swamped his mind, thus Sofia took this as a cue to approach him. 

"Alpha. Do you want to feel the baby? The baby starts moving. Here, you can feel it." Sofia remembered that passionate night that they spent together. 

She remembered every kiss and satisfaction he gave to her. She had never been so satisfied whenever she had a sex with alpha Gallot, as the alpha only cared for his own satisfaction, but that night… every time she replayed the passionate night in her mind, she would get aroused, even now, the sight of alpha Cane made her so wet. Probably, it was because of the baby wanted to be close to the father. 

However, there was only one sour sight, which was the auburn woman, who was sleeping on the bed. Sofia also remembered the girl was supposed to be in the room, because the alpha took her with them, thinking he wanted to have three ways with them two. 

But as it turned out, the alpha only focused on her, which made her elated. She didn't think too much about the absent of the other woman, since both of them had an intense love making at that time and the blindfold tunned her out of her surroundings. 

"Alpha. Here, you can feel the baby…" Sofia extended her hand to take Cane's hand, so she could put it over her stomach. 

"I told you to get out." Cane lifted his eyes and they were so dark, as if they were a bottomless pit. "Don't ever come to this room without my permission." He said that through his gritted teeth, as if he was fighting back the urge to snap her neck, which made Sofia took a step back and covered her arms around her stomach instinctively, trying to protect her baby, it was a mother instinct if one could say. 

"Al- alpha… but…" Sofia was taken aback by how cold the alpha was, he was so different. She thought, he would be ecstatic to see her, especially when she learned luna Iris had not yet conceived, this would be his first child and Sofia's footing in this pack would be solid, especially after all the people welcomed her warmly. She liked to be here. "Alpha, I am carrying your child…" she whimpered, as tear rolled down her cheek. 

However, what she said only aggravated Cane even more. 

His child?!

The word triggered something inside of Cane, as he let out a dangerous growl. 

Seeing how enraged the alpha was, Sofia was so scared for her and her baby, thus she decided to leave the room hastily. She was crying because this was not what she expected. She thought alpha Cane would be happy for their child. She even occupied the luna's bedroom and everything went so well, ever since she arrived in this pack. 

"Cane?" Iris opened her eyes to find Cane was seething. Probably sensing his distress, she was woken up. "What happened?" 

Iris looked around her, but she couldn't find anything that could make him like this. Was it nightmare? He was having his nightmare again?

Thinking that was it, Iris pushed herself into a sitting position and cradled his head against her chest, as she ran her fingers through his hair. 

"It's okay… it's okay." She patted his tensed back, as Cane hugged her so tightly, listening to the beating of her heart.
