NA...
This soft smoke in shape of wolf was the same color like Cane's wolf and this gave the same feeling like when she saw the same thing happened when alpha Gill tried to disgrace her and Cane didn't seem to see it, because he didn't give any indication that he did, since the black smoke hovered around his body, as if it was a living thing.
"Calm down, Iris!" Cane said sternly, he didn't want to hurt her, but she struggled to get away from him and rushed toward the forest. "You can go anywhere, but not to the forest!"
He would let her to do whatever she wanted to vent out her anger, but not to the point to endanger herself.
However, Iris couldn't take it, she felt so suffocated to be in that pack. She didn't want to return to that place anymore and be in that an awkward situation with them, especially after what happened with Kaz and the other.
They bonded with each other like family and with her not forgave them, she could imagine what kind of judgment they would throw at her.
Yes, Cane could prevent them from disrespecting her, but it was not the same when you were being respected genuinely.
Iris was desperate, she didn't want to comeback, she didn't want to meet them all! She wanted to leave.
Being a snack for the monster probably would be a better choice than have to prolong her suffering with their judgmental gazes.
In her desperation, Iris managed to free one hand and grab the smoke, which was the shape of wolf and squeezed it. She did that out of instinct, her last attempt to free herself from Cane and his people. She didn't want to go back.
"Ah!" Cane dropped to his knees and clutched his chest, as he let go of Iris's hands. He felt this sharp and sudden pain in his chest, which made his whole body was shaking. It almost felt like someone squeezed your heart and it stopped for a second.
On the other hand, Iris was stunned to see Cane was in so much pain. She froze, unable to move, as Cane was breathing raggedly, clutching his chest. His face contorted, showing how much he was in agony and this snapped Iris back to the reality.
She remembered alpha Gill was also in so much pain when she strangled the smoke in shape of a wolf that hovered around him.
What was going on?
"C- Cane?" Iris stammered when she realized what she had done. "Cane? Are you okay?" All of her grievances replaced by worriedness, as she dropped to her knees and check on him. "Are you in pain? Cane? Say something…"
Iris was trembling when she reached out her hands to cradle his face. Cane closed his eyes, as a distress crease could be seen between his eyes. He was trying to breath, while clutching his chest. Iris had never seen him in so much pain like this before, even when he shifted into his lycan form, he was not like this.
The horrified thing was; Iris knew that Cane had a high tolerance of pain, thus if he was in this kind of pain, it must be very unbearable for him.
"Cane, I am sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you… I am sorry." Iris was so distraught, she felt so guilty for hurting him.
She was not clear what that smoke in shape of wolf was, but she was sure, it caused so much pain. Haco's opinion was; it was their spirit, their wolf. Was it that? She harmed Cane's spirit? She harmed him?
"Cane, I am sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you…" Iris didn't know what to do now. She was afraid, something bad would happen to him, she remembered when Aria wanted to break the mate bond and what came after that. "Cane, what should I do?"
Cane shook his head, but he couldn't utter a single word, as the pain overwhelmed him. Every time he breathed, he felt like someone twisted a knife in his chest. The pain was too much for him to bear, but he was still able to hear Iris's distress voice, calling his name. He wanted to reassure her that he only needed some time to let this pain to pass, but he couldn't.
Cane felt like he was surrounded by darkness and someone pulled his feet down, wanted to burry him. He felt his body was sinking deeper and deeper and Iris's voice felt so far.
Cane wanted to open his eyes to see if Iris was still with him and didn't go to the forest, because he didn't think he could follow her, but when he could finally open his eyes, he saw a figure right in front of him, staring at him with his red eyes.
He could feel the anger…
And that was the last thing Cane remembered, as he was sunk into the abyss of the darkness.
Meanwhile, Iris couldn't stop shaking, as she called his name a few times, since Cane didn't respond to her. His body was so cold and her anxiety hit the roof when all of sudden Cane's body relax and he dropped his hand that clutched his chest.
He fell to the ground and this made Iris screamed, a wave of a strong panic attack hit her so hard, she almost couldn't breathe herself.
Did she kill him? What she had done?!
"C- Cane…? Cane, please, you scared me…" Iris cried so hard, her tears blurred her vision, as she stretched out her hand and prayed like crazy to the goddess that he was fine. "Cane, please open your eyes, you scare me…"
However, before Iris could check his breathing, Cane opened his eyes and she breathed in relief, but not until she saw his red eyes. Those red color was the reddest color she had ever seen and this stopped Iris from touching him.
Cane pushed his body off the ground, as if nothing happened, he stared at her. "Na…"
