LU
Cane looked fine when he pushed his body off the ground, he was no longer having a difficulty to breath, but when he lifted his head to look at Iris, the sight of his eyes made her stopped in her track from touching him.
"Na…" Cane whispered.
This was his face, this was him, who was sitting in front of her, but Iris felt like she had lost Cane. What was going on? Why his eyes turned into red color? That was the same color like… the lycan.
"Na…" Cane whispered again, he moved closer to Iris, but out of instinct, she backed away from him, which made him frowned with this gesture. He didn't like her to be away from him. "Don't go, don't be angry, I promise I will be good."
The furrow between her brows deepened when she read what he said. What did he mean with that?!
"Wh- what?"
"Na, I promise I will be good. I will not hurt people. I will not kill them." Cane moved closer to Iris and then rested his head on her laps, as he took her hand to caress his head. "I will be good, I promise you."
Iris was dumbstruck, what was going on right now?! What Cane meant with his words? She couldn't understand what he was talking about.
What she had done to him, which caused him to act so strangely right now?
"Cane?" Iris caressed his head dumbfoundedly, because he wanted her to do so, as he closed his eyes, ready to fall asleep again. "Cane, is that… you?"
Iris was not sure if she was right about this situation, but her mind told him the worst case scenario that she thought it was too wild to actually happen.
"Cane?" Iris called his name again. "Cane, is that you? Answer me."
Cane opened his eyes again and they were still the color of red, but he didn't say anything, instead, he brought her hand to his lips and kiss her knuckles gently, this gesture sent shiver down her spine. His lips were so cold, his skin was so cold and deep down, Iris knew it was not her mate…
Iris didn't know how to describe it, but she simply knew it, just like how she purified the black magic stone, or how she could sense dark magic, it just happened.
"This is not you, Cane…" Iris felt suffocated, she was at lost. What she had done? What she had done to her mate?
Cane shifted his attention toward Iris's face and then let go of her hand, as he extended his hand to wipe away tears that she didn't even realize had rolled down her cheeks.
"You can call me with whatever name you want, but don't cry. I don't want to see you cry." Cane brought his wet fingers, because of her tears and licked it. "I never like your tears."
"You are not Cane," Iris said, her whole body was trembling. Where is he? Who is this person on her laps? Was this… "You are the lycan." The words came out as a soft whispered, her voice trembled when she knew she was right about it.
This was not Cane, this was the lycan that had been residing inside of him. If the lycan came to the surface and take over his consciousness, what happened to Cane?
What she had done was the cause to this?
"You are the lycan, right?"
Cane's red eyes dimmed, but instead of answering Iris's question, he hugged her waist protectively.
"Can you… can you give him back?"
"No."
"Why?"
"I don't want."
Iris bit her lips, she stared at Cane's face, but it didn't feel like him. She was angry with him, she was angry with the member of his pack, but she didn't wish something like this to happen.
"I need him… can you give him back?" Strangely, Iris talked to the lycan as if she had done it several times before, or probably, it was true in a sense.
"You don't need him he is a nuisance," Cane said, he played with her hair that cascaded down to his face. "Tell me the story about the little girl and the monster. Your favorite story."
Iris remembered she told the story during the new moon when they were in the alpha Gallot's pack, the night when Redmond took Cane's place to bed Sofia.
So, the lycan did hear what she said?0
"Tell me that story, I want to hear it again…" Cane nudged her arm to get her attention. "I want to hear your voice."
Iris's mind swirled wildly, as she had a lot of question and was too shocked to know what to do with this whole situation.
A lot of things happened in the span of a day.
"Tell me the story and I will tell you mine."
Iris felt her throat suddenly dried, as if she just swallowed sand. "Lu?" She tried and Cane smiled.
"Yes?" He lifted his head slightly, so he could get a better look on the auburn woman. "I always love the way you call my name. My sweet Serafim. I finally found you again… I will protect you within the shadow of the dark. I will always be with you. I will find you no matter where you are. You are mine to protect, you are mine to love. Even when death tears us apart, I will find you again."
The last statement shocked Iris. She had heard the oath was being said before, but she forgot about it the moment she woke up from her dream.
And now, this lycan recalled every single word perfectly. He chanted it in a way she heard it in the first place.
And then… a Serafim? His sweet Serafim?
But then, Cane pushed himself from the ground and moved so fast to shield Iris behind his back when he sensed someone was coming.
"Cane! Come here, there is a reply from the Celestial Moon pack!" Ethan waved his hand to the alpha.
