OLD FRIEND

Iris was startled when Cane suddenly took a defensive stance, his face contorted and his eyes shone dangerously. 

What was going on? Iris tried to peek over his shoulder only to see Ethan walked toward them hastily, his face was slightly confused with the way Cane glared and growled at him. 

"I have an important report for you from the Celestial Moon pack," Ethan repeated what he said earlier, he thought, Cane didn't hear him. "Cane?" He tilted his head and saw Iris behind him. "Luna, can you tell him to stop growling at me? I am being serious now."

Ethan had been away when the confrontation in the kitchen happened and he was overwhelmed with the new task Cane gave to him to have time to update his knowledge about what was happening. 

"Ethan, I think you can't come over," Iris said hastily, as she grabbed Cane's shirt, as if it would stop him if he really attacked the gamma. "Stop!"

Ethan stopped walking closer, he was ten steps away from them and now, because of Iris's warning and he was a little bit closer, he could see Cane's eyes shone in red color, he was not sure whether he saw the right thing, because the only light here was from the pack house in the distance. It was not too dark, but it was not bright either. 

"What is happening here?" Ethan asked, dumbfounded. "What happened to him?" he could feel the tension in the air and the animosity that came from the alpha. "Is he alright?"

"Where is Haco?" Iris asked from behind Cane, but she couldn't move away, because he reached out to his back and hold her leg down. 

"He is with Grace… I think, if I am not mistaken."

"Ethan, call Haco here." 

"What? Why?"

"Call him here!" Iris said sternly, 

Ethan gave a start when Iris raised her voice and then immediately nodded. "Oh, okay…" he rushed away from there, but instinctively, he would glance over his shoulder, because he could feel Cane's eyes bore a hole on his back, he could sense a danger from him. 

Ethan was not sure what was going on, but Cane acted very strangely. 

"Don't do that!" Iris hit Cane's back with her fist, enough to make the lycan turned his head and looked at her. 

"He was bothering me," Cane said sullenly. 

Iris was really not familiar with this man, she would never think there was a day she would see Cane sulking. This was not right.

"Don't hurt him." Her words were firm. 

Cane tilted his head and stared at her intensely. "The same…"

"What? What is the same?"

"You asked me the same thing in the past…" Cane's red eyes turned a little bit warm when he smiled gently at her. "My sweet moon."

Iris narrowed her eyes, she caught his hand, which was about to caress her cheek and held it away from her face. "What do you mean with the Serafim?" she caught the word earlier and she was going to figure out what was that. If this lycan had taken over Cane's consciousness, she needed to make the best out of it, if he knew something about the riddle of her power. "What do you mean with what you said before?"

However, at this time, the lycan chose not to say anything, neither he was willing to answer her question, he just stared at her with fascination and played with her hair between his fingers. 

"Cane, no, Lu, tell me, what do you know about the Serafim?" Iris swatted his hand from touching her hair and cupped his face, so he could look at her, but then he leaned over and stole a kiss from her, which made Iris growled, annoyed. "Stop it!"

Somehow, Iris didn't feel right when Cane kissed her earlier, because it was not him and she felt like she cheated on him with him, if that made any sense…

Cane slouched his shoulders and pouted his lips. The sight of it drove Iris crazy, because this kind of expression was not something that he would make. 

Iris would never imagine Cane was being pouty and sullen. 

"Don't be angry, please. I don't like to see you be angry." Cane reached out his hand again and caressed her cheek. "I miss you."

Iris bit her lip, as she was not sure how to face this lycan. "Lu, answer me. Can you answer my question? Can you explain to me about what you said earlier? Why do you want to protect me?"

And there, the lycan became quiet once again, refused to answer her question, as he stared at Iris with fascination in his eyes. There was longing and pain that radiated from him when he touched Iris carefully. 

He treated her like a vulnerable thing that would break if he put a little bit pressure and the way he stared at her, as if he would worship the ground she walked in. It was a mixture of love and devotion.  1

He had been waiting for her for so long, he had endured everything for her and now he finally could touch her again, he couldn't care less about anything else. He would make it right in this lifetime. 

However, Iris didn't think the same, she was not familiar with the man in front of her. This was not the Cane she knew and this fear started to creep in about what actually happened to Cane. Did she… kill his spirit, in extend… him?

The thought of it made Iris wanted to vomit. 

No, that was too wild. Alpha Gill didn't die immediately at that time and Cane still had time to torture him. 

"My sweet moon," the lycan chanted the endearment again. 

Not long after that, Haco came with Ethan and Jace, he frowned to see the sight before him. "What is it? You want to show me your lovey dovey moment?"

With that, Cane turned his head and smirked at the sorcerer. "Long time no see, old friend."
