DID I KILL HIM?
"Did I… kill him?" Iris felt her throat had turned dry when the question came out of her lips, while the lycan was still sleeping on her laps.
She couldn't say what actually was happening because she was afraid, they would judge her. After all, no matter how she put it, it was her, who had harmed Cane and brought out the lycan to the surface, but Haco was different, he was not from this pack and he didn't share the same bond with Cane like the member of the pack.
Iris was not sure how Jace and Ethan would react if they learned about this. She had enough people judged her unfairly, she didn't want the beta and gamma joined them too.
"I don't think so," Haco said, he was deep in thought, as he stared at Cane, who slept peacefully, clutching Iris's dress. "I don't think you killed him, but you indeed weakened him." Haco moved closer to observe Cane more. He furrowed his brows and mumbled something to himself and Iris was unable to read it.
"How we can get Cane back?" Iris asked. This was the most crucial question that needed to be answered. Haco was the only person, who knew the lycan really well, since this cursed creature had resided within him for over five decades. "Can we get him back?"
"There is one thing that you should know about the lycan, Iris," Haco said, he lifted his head. He looked tired and his grey hair looked a little bit dull, which made him looked very old. "The lycan doesn't usually appear like this."
"But, the lycan have ever appeared when he resided in you?" Iris tried to grasp all the information that she could to understand their current situation.
"Of course," Haco said affirmatively. "Just like how he will appear every new moon, the same thing happened to me too."
"But, you are not a shifter." In Iris's mind she thought about Haco turned into a lycan or something.
"Nah, it's not necessary for him to appear as a lycan, but because I am not a shifter, usually he would take my body, he would be in my consciousness. Probably, the same like what happened now. The lycan took over Cane's body because you injured his beast. Even though this is not a new moon yet, but because the vessel is weak, the thing inside it will leak out, that's how thing works between Cane and the lycan."
That was also the moment where the lycan took over his body that he messed up in the Holy Kingdom, which caused him to be banished from that place and eventually left the continent to end up here.
Iris grimaced when Haco mentioned she had injured Cane's beast. How bad it was until the lycan took his consciousness over?
"How long until we can get Cane back?" Iris dreaded the answer, because she was not ready to be told 'there was nothing they could do' or something along that line.
"I am not sure, Iris. I have never encountered a power like you before, hell, I don't even know the power like you is existed in the first place. How can you see the wisp?" Haco was way more interested with Iris's power than the predicament that the lycan would bring.
"I don't know," Iris answered honestly. "But I don't think this is the same wisp that came out of Cane, because I am sure he did not notice it. I think, it's only me, who can see it."
Haco furrowed his brows, wrinkled his nose. "Weird."
And with that, silence befell upon them, as there were a lot of unanswered question that swirled in the air with this revelation.
"Haco, I think his mate's name is something with 'Na' and he called me his sweet Serafim." Iris wanted to leave out this unrelated information, because she thought it was only a slip of tongue, but then on the second thought, it was too weird for the lycan to call her that. "What he meant with that."
"Serafim…" Haco was deep in thought, his eyes shook, while he was thinking thousand of possibilities. "… Iris, I think this is crazy… no, it's completely crazy if this is right…"
"What is it?" Iris didn't have patient to be put in suspense. This sorcerer, should have explained what he meant, instead of mumbling to himself. "What is it, Haco?"
"No. This is crazy…" Haco shook his head, but then he stared at Iris and his sight fell on the sleeping Cane. He was unbothered with what was going on, being so docile in the presence of his mate. "This can't be… right?"
"Haco!" Iris hissed impatiently. "I can read what you said, but I can't read your mind! Talk now!" Iris was too frustrated to be her sweet self and there were a lot of things happened to her, especially today, which put her on edge. Forget about being sweet, she felt like she was about to claw this sorcerer if she could to pry the answer from him.
"Are you a Serafim?"
Iris felt like her head was going to burst. "No, you are right, you are indeed crazy."
"No. No!" Haco shook his head and grabbed Iris's hand. "No! Look! All the sign is there, Iris. Look at it in different perspective. You can purify the black magic stone and feel the black magic, you can tame the lycan and he literally called you the Serafim."
"What about the Serafim in the Holy Kingdom now? Is she fake? That's an outrageous claim to say that."
"That's…" Haco couldn't find a proper answer to reply that. "But, I think what I feel from you is divine power…" he said unsure.
"Shouldn't you know immediately whether this is divine power or not, since you lived there in your young age."
"I am still young," Haco grumbled under his breath. "Iris, you don't realize your power until recently, at least, that's what you told me, because you have been kept away from people, since you were little. There is this case where some power didn't develop to the fullest and has this oddity, this abnormality can be seen on the magic user, who can't use magic, or a shifter, who can't shift into their beast and we call that as a runt. You have been known as a runt yourself all of your life."
Iris lowered her gaze, trying to comprehend Haco's explanation. "Do you want to say because of this oddity, you can't be sure whether it is the divine power or not inside me?"
"Yes, more or less. If you put it in that way, I think it's because your power is not developed to the fullest, or maybe I can be wrong."2
Iris was frustrated with this uncertainty. "Or, maybe you can be so wrong."
Hace glanced at Iris. "A Serafim born with a tattoo on their back, what about you? Do you have it?"
Her back…
"I don't know," Iris murmured. She was very ashamed of her back, as it looked so horrendous, so she stopped staring at her scars long time ago.
"Should we ask someone to check on it?" Haco looked so excited.
Iris bit her lip. "Let's continue this conversation tomorrow," she said immediately before Haco insisted. "I am so tired."
Seeing how pale Iris was right now and heard what had happened to her before the incident with the lycan, Haco nodded. It's indeed a tiring day.
However, before he left, he said something softly, as if he was a grandfather, who was talking to his granddaughter, someone that the sorcerer would never have.
"Don't treat all people with kindness, Iris. Not everyone deserves it, but give them your silence when you feel not appreciated, because not everyone deserves your attention."
Iris lowered her gaze, because his words hit her so deep and it came from 'an outsider' like her too.
=============================
Iris woke up early and found the lycan was still hugging her waist possessively, as they slept in front of the fire place, inside Cane's study room.
His body temperature was so different, while Cane was so warm, his was so cold. Probably, because he was the epitome of black magic? Iris was not sure, if that was the case, why she couldn't purify it? Or probably it was not as simple as that with the lycan.
More so, if it was Cane, he would have woken up by now and started his busy day so early, though he would make time to have a breakfast with her every morning in their bedroom.
Iris shifted her body and stared at Cane's face. He looked like a young boy when he was sleeping like this, he looked so peaceful and she was afraid to disturb it.
For a few more minutes, Iris spent it by staring at Cane, hoping he would open his eyes and she would meet with Cane's dark eyes instead.
Leaned over, Iris kissed his cold lips, while speaking softly. "Come back to me, please…"
She didn't have any idea how long it would take for Cane to heal from the injury that she gave him. It was so reckless of her.
But then a question crossed her mind; would she be able to kill him, if she completely gained the control of her power?
Iris didn't want to think about that, she pushed herself from the thick carpet, where she and Cane slept and walked toward the door.
But then, Maria had been waiting for her there. "Luna Iris," she greeted her politely.
