THE ROOM WITH CITRUS SCENT

Iris knew Cane was suspicious of lady Cyan and he was cautious of her. Instead of the king, Cane put his attention more on the lady. 

If it was in the past, she would be fidgety by now when she understood what lady Cyan was trying to imply and be bothered when the topic of Aria came up, since she didn't want to be blamed for her death, because somehow, she felt that way, since the people in the Howling Wolf pack mourned her death so much. 

As she was the first person who was sentenced to death by Cane. The first death order that happened after they freed themselves from the slavery. 

However now Iris didn't put so much expectation on these people, she felt a little bit lighter and this was less stressful than to grovel to be accepted by them. 

On the other hand, Cane put down his glass and looked at lady Cyan calmly to answer her question. "My lady, are you trying to say that I have ordered Aria to kill the three innocent children? Because that's what she did. Not only she got involved with dark magic, but she killed children as well. The punishment fit the crime." Cane smiled harmlessly. "I am trying to be fair here. I even ordered the death sentence for my mistress, it shouldn't surprise you that I immediately executed the five alphas because of the same crime."

That was very logical thing to do. Cane was being fair to deliver the same execution to the same crime.

Iris lowered her head and smiled to herself after Cane's reply. Her face beamed with satisfaction, she was so proud of him for turning the table and was being so calm to answer lady Cyan's jab. She never doubted this man when it came to twisting words. 

And this man was her man…

The thought made her blushed, reminding her of her numb hand and his face when he got his release. Well, the sight of him worth the pain…

And Iris kept blushing, which made Cane wondered what she was thinking right now, because while everyone was on the verge of their seat and looked like they were too afraid to breath too loud, Iris was being bashful when Cane didn't even tease her at all. 

He had a vicious banter with lady Cyan under polite words, something that didn't make sense to make her blushing, neither thinking of something inappropriate. 

There would be a moment or two, where he couldn't understand her, but he liked the sight of her right now nonetheless…

"How's prince Alan doing, my lady?" Cane asked, but his next words made alpha Dristan kissed his new mistress to suppress his laughter. "I heard, he was actually the one, who had invited the people from the Holy Kingdom to come. He must have cleaned up his underground activity, or else, the people from the Holy Kingdom will not happy to see it. I am worried, they will misunderstand the situation and thought the people there were the sacrifice, since he was accused to get involved with dark magic."

Lady Cyan's smile didn't falter at all when she heard how Cane retaliated to her words, while the king was still mum, he looked around the dining hall, didn't seem to be interested to join the banter when it was him, who had started it. 

"I am so thankful for your concern, alpha Cane. Prince Alan has been trying to atone to his sin and prove to the people that he is innocence in regard of the accusation of the dark magic, that's why he did his best to solve the problem, since we still didn't know whether or not the lycan will appear again after the death of the five alphas. He did his best to help in this situation." Lady Cyan deflected the main point of Cane's jab and focus on something else, which made her son looked less guilty. 

"I see, I see," Cane replied considerately, in which made Iris wanted to laugh, as she reached her hand to take the fork, but when she was about to put the meat into her mouth, she lost her grip on the fork and the meat fell to her dress. 

Her hand still not yet recovered it strength. 

"Ah!" Iris gasped to see the stain on her dress and when she lifted her head she caught Cane's eyes, the alpha stared at her with amusement danced in his dark eyes. He even had the audacity to smirk at her! Iris really wanted to be upset, but instead she felt so bashful. 

"What happened? Is your hand fine?" Cane asked innocently. He seemed to be in a good mood and didn't think of the situation with lady Cyan and the king presence seriously. 

"Fine," Iris mumbled and then excused herself to change her dress, she apologized for the disruption and stood up. 

But then, Cane stood up with her too, he grabbed her hand to make her stay for a while, because there was something he wanted to say first. 

"I will go with my mate for a while to help her, I hope you will enjoy the next entertainment, since I want to introduce the new member of the Howling Wolf pack."

This was the main event of the whole dinner, but at this moment, Cane chose to leave with Iris, which made Jace and Ethan could only facepalm themselves. Was it fine to be reckless like this? They wondered if it was actually Lu, who took control Cane's body again. Or maybe the lycan had rubbed some of his bad traits on their reserved alpha…

"My beta will proceed with the introduction." Cane nodded politely to the king and lady Cyan. 

"You can ask someone to help her change her dress," alpha Dristan voiced out his opinion. For someone like them, it was unheard of for them to help with anything related to their women, since there would be hundreds of maid servant, who would do the job. 

"Her personal maid is not available and I liked to take care of my own mate," Cane replied, his voice was firm and this made not only the three people in power inside this room narrowed their eyes with his answer, but also made the member of his pack had this mixed feeling. "Please, enjoy the next entertainment."

This was what exactly Cane had specifically asked Iris when she organized the party. Although the discussion of this still went back and forth, but in the end, Cane decided to go through with the original plan after he thought about the pros and cons with his beta and gamma. 

Cane nodded at Jace, who immediately carried on with the next step of this said welcoming party, as Cane took Iris's hand out of the dining hall. 

At the same time, Iris walked out of the room through the side door, Haco entered the room with his dark cloak, creating fireballs in both of his hands. He showed some attraction with fire in front of the people. 

Yes, that was right, the new member of the Howling Wolf pack that Cane wanted to introduce was Haco. He wanted to officially welcome him to the pack, so his presence wouldn't be a question in the future if they saw him with the alpha often. 

"Cane, is it okay for you to leave when Haco is being introduced?" Iris asked when it was only the two of them, out of the dining hall, she was worried. The old sorcerer probably cried right now when he saw Cane was not in his seat, since he was against the idea to be introduced to the royal family, probably because he felt self conscious, since he was the true culprit behind princess Osana's misery.  0

"Jace will handle it just fine," Cane replied. There was nothing much he needed to do even when he stayed. 

"I can change my own dress, you don't need to bother," Iris said again, she felt her body was hot when the cold breeze hit her face and she realized it was only the two of them in this part of the pack house, since the crowd gathered in the dining hall. 

"But, I am bothered." Cane suddenly opened the empty room next to him and pull Iris inside before he closed the door and trapped her between his body and the wall. This room smelled like citrus. "What makes you aroused?"

Cane's face was so close to her and Iris could see her reflection in his eyes. 

"I don't," she lied and both of them knew.

"You are, Iris." Cane was not sure how he became so sensitive with his arousal. It was a faint scent, but he could tell the different. 

People around Iris wouldn't be able to pick up the slightest change in her scent, but he could and he knew it was during his banter with lady Cyan. 

"What you are thinking to be so bashful like this?" Cane was genuinely curious. "Were you thinking about what happened before?" 

Iris shook her head. Another lies that both of them knew very well. She bit her lip when Cane pressed his body against her so she could stop herself from moaning because of their closeness. 

"I don't think I will get enough of you," Cane said in hoarse voice as he leaned over and kissed her lips. Her arousal made him arouse as well. 

And this breakthrough made him wanted to explore more. 

As a response, Iris nibbled on his lip, tiptoeing to wrap her arms around his neck.
