THE BABY IS MINE

It was so early in the morning and the sun had not yet appeared in the horizon, as the sky was still so dark when Cane and Redmond entered the luna's bedroom. The gamma followed them inside as well, as he wanted to know what Cane was going to do with Sofia. 

Redmond protested because he didn't want this nosy gamma to learn about this and then taunted him, but he couldn't help it when the alpha didn't have any objection when Ethan came with them as well. 

Inside the room, Sofia had fallen asleep, seemingly her excitement couldn't keep her awake for a whole night and it was already way too far from her sleeping time. 

Her scent distracted Redmond's mind, as it smelled so sweet for him, but he couldn't help, but inhaled it deeply. He felt annoyed by his own reaction to her presence and the sight of her sleeping on the bed was something that would be forever engraved in his mind. 

Sofia had her back against them, as her shoulders move up and down, as she breathed. The sight of her back, made her looked fragile

"Wake her up," Cane said lightly. He stopped a few steps away from the bed and sat down on the furthest chair from the bed. 

"The alpha asked you to wake her up," Ethan said, as he nudged Redmond's shoulder, there was a smirk on the corner of his lips, which vexed the warrior. 

"Why should I? Why don't you wake her up?!" Redmond growled. He wanted to scratch his head, until it bled. 

However, Ethan simply shrugged. "It's not me, who got her pregnant. That's the mother of your baaabbyyy…" He said the last word in the most annoying tone, which set Redmond off. 

"Do you want to fight?!" Redmond barked, as he glared at the gamma dangerously. "Come here! I will beat you up!"

"Oh, you don't have the strength for that!" Ethan glared back at him, as he kept a distance away from Redmond, just in case, he was serious with his threat, while the alpha couldn't care less about these two people, who was going to kill each other. 

The commotion from these two finally woke Sofia up and she screamed when she saw the two of them inside her room. 

"What are you doing here?!" Sofia shouted at the two of them, which essentially stopped them from going for each other's throats. "Get out! Get out! Aargghh!"

However, neither Redmond, nor Ethan moved from their position, as they watched how Sofia screamed on the top of her lungs with emotionless expression, as if they were waiting for her to stop and be calm enough to talk. 

Sofia only stopped screaming when she finally saw Cane, she looked mortified. "Al- alpha! I don't know why the two of them are here! I didn't do anything with them! I don't know why they are here!"

She looked so afraid that she would be accused of something she didn't do. And maybe because she just woke up with a shock that her mind had not yet worked properly, so she couldn't tell Cane had been there, watched everything and they actually came together.

"Al- alpha Cane, please believe me, I didn't do anything with them! I just woke up!" Sofia looked panic, she tried to get Cane to talk, but he only stared at her, before he finally spoke when she stopped rambling, didn't know what else to say to make the alpha believed her. 

"I am only going to say this once, so listen carefully." Cane's expression was devoid from any emotion, so Sofia couldn't tell what he was going to say. "The baby in your stomach is not mine, it was not me, who had a sex with you that night."

Sofia put her arms around her belly out of instinct, she looked very defensive. "Alpha! How can you say something like that!?" Sofia screeched, she fought back her tears, as her voice cracked. She looked so hurt with the accusation. "I had never had any intercourse after that night we spent together. I can assure you the baby is yours! The baby is definitely yours!" Sofia was adamant, she missed the other detail of what Cane said. 

"How can you prove the baby is mine?" Cane looked unsympathetic, as he asked Sofia callously. 

"You are coming from the royal bloodline, when the baby is born, the baby will have the golden eyes like the member of the royal family," Sofia said, alpha Gallot had told her about it. 

Though it was not a secret, but such knowledge was not something that Sofia had ever heard beforehand, so alpha Gallot had prepared her for the answer. 

"The baby will not have golden eyes," Cane stated. 

"Alpha, you can't ditch me and our child just like that! How can you throw me away and your firstborn without feeling any guilty?!" Sofia's voice was trembling, she looked very hurt by what Cane said, but Redmond was annoyed because Sofia kept insisting not to listen. And somehow, Sofia's statement that the baby was Cane's irked him. 

Meanwhile, Cane didn't say anything, he only stared at Redmond, as if telling him to fix this. 

Redmond had a headache. "The baby is mine, you dimwit!" he snarled. "I was the one, who fucked you that night! Can't you remember my scent?!"

Sofia gasped loudly and screeched, which made Redmond and Ethan grimaced, because it hurt their ears.

"Stop screaming! Can't you talk normally?" Ethan groaned, he rubbed his ears. 

"You are a liar!" Sofia directed her eyes at Cane and cried pitifully. "Alpha! How can you set me up like this and refused to acknowledge your own child?" Sofia sobbed so hard, her words were barely coherent. 

"Shut up," Cane said sternly, his voice demanded attention, as his dominance rolled off his tone, which made Sofia immediately stopped crying and trying so hard not to make a sound, she was scared. 

If it was his mate, he would have all the patience in the world to wait for her to stop crying on her own, but the alpha didn't have the same compassion to someone else.  0

"I know what kind of scheme alpha Gallot is trying to play." Cane stood up from the chair and approached the bed. "I told you, the baby is not mine and you know what the punishment for deceiving the member of the royal family, especially about their heir?"

Sofia could feel fear creep on her skin and she was having a hard time to breath when Cane stared down at her intensely. This was not how she imagined would happen when the alpha finally graced her with his presence. This was not the news that she wanted to hear. Was that even true? The baby was not his? 

The baby belonged to this red hair warrior? Sofia was having a hard time to comprehend the fact. 

"There is no way the baby is not yours…" Sofia could feel the baby moved in her stomach. She always believed the baby she was carrying was Cane and she finally could get her happy ending with the alpha. She followed every news about him, how he led the royal warrior to find the lycan, or the news about him helping the children in the orphanage, in the capital city, with prince Kellan. 

Cane probably was not really aware about how many people's hearts that he had won. His good name spread so far and wide. People would use him as an example of a good leader, while the woman would gush over the fact he didn't have any mistress and how well he treated his luna. 

Even more when he chased after the lycan to save his mate, without even waiting for any back up, he looked for his mate alone. 

Fighting the lycan by himself to get back his mate was, by any means, a suicidal attempt, but the alpha didn't care about that. He still went to rescue his luna. 

He didn't know how many women would kill to get such attention from their mate. He did something that no alpha had ever done, he went to the extra length for his soulmate. 

And Sofia couldn't be more proud of him when she heard how Cane distributed food for the member of the five packs, the food that their alphas had amassed during winter, which caused a lot of death. 

Sofia flaunted to the people in the Riverside pack how she was carrying the alpha's child, that very alpha, who people talked about. 

The alpha only had his eyes on his luna, that was what people said, but then with this baby, she would be the only mistress for him, right? 

Sofia had a beautiful image of her future in her head. 

But now, Cane said this baby was not his? She refused to believe that!

"No, alpha… don't do this to me and our child…" Sofia whimpered softly, she bit her lip to stop herself from crying, her heart ached so bad when she saw there was no warmth in the way alpha Cane looked at her. "Please, don't abandon me and the child."

"Listen carefully." Cane didn't seem to care with her tears. He looked so callous and calculative at this time. "You can work for me and I can keep you alive, or you can continue to work for alpha Gallot and I will make sure your death will be near. Once the baby is born and it has no golden eyes, you will be hanged even before the baby is bathed."
