A TRAP (3)
Cane knew there was something that completely wrong when heard his people had marched to the mountain not so long after Avid left.
"Who leads them here?" Cane asked, he stared at alpha Dristan, the aura around him changed all of sudden, even Iris could feel the tension in the air and how suffocating the atmosphere was.
"I don't know," alpha Dristan said, he was stunned to see Cane right now, as if it finally hit him so hard, how they had walked straight into a trap and at this moment, they put themselves into a dangerous situation. He shouldn't have only taken two warriors with him.
He should have smelled something fishy when he watched how the royal warriors kept coming to join the hunt.
"I don't know, the communication was cut off. That's the last mindlink I got. I think my warrior is too far for the mindlink to work," alpha Dristan said, he looked distress, since he only had one warrior left with him, while Cane had nine. Even so, their number was very insignificant compared to the royal warriors that surrounded them.
"Or, he has been killed," Cane said in callous tone, which was most likely happened in this situation.
Alpha Dristan's jaw hardened when he heard that. He pushed aside his new mistress, as her presence didn't help with the situation. "Do you have plan of how to get out of this place?" He glanced at Iris. "You know this place so well, right? If things went out of hands, you must know how to get out from this mountain safely, right?"
This was the king that they were talking about, if the king decided to kill them right there and then, there was no way someone would be able to retaliate, without their alphas, the two packs would most likely fall into the king's hands.
Not to mention the two of them were the alpha from where the mines were located. Something that the king had been salivating to snatch.
This was a bad idea, Cane should have been more careful and mindful, but he was being reckless and was a little bit distracted recently.
This was the reason why he couldn't slack off, something slipped off his mind and he missed to see the sign, then it would be their lives that was at stake.
He was being careless to not think this matter carefully and lady Cyan took the advantage when he failed to see her plot.
Were those people the warrior, who managed to be provoked by the royal warrior? But, Cane had faith to his people's loyalty. Did he see them too high?
But, the provocation only happened for a day, it was too much to turn them against by only a few words.
What was actually happening?
"Control your expression," Cane said curtly, before he turned around and walked away to talk with the other nine warriors, who came with him.
If there was a possibility of alpha Dristan's man was being killed, the same fate could happen to Avid as well. He could be killed without being able to reach the pack house and warn someone of what happened here.
"Make a fire," Cane said to Dyne. The other warriors could sense the tension and notice something was wrong with this whole situation.
They tried to ignore a few whispers from the royal warriors, who kept provoking them, even at a moment like this. They did it very subtle, so Cane didn't know about that, since they rode with the other warriors behind him.
"But, it's still afterno… yes, alpha." Dyne immediately shut up when he saw Cane's expression and did what he was told without asking question.
"What are you going to do?" Iris asked, but her eyes widened when she saw Cane cut a lock of her curl, it was only a few strands of her hair, which wouldn't make any different for her, but… "What are you doing?"
Cane was too focus on what he was going to do, thus he didn't answer her question and reach out to get the lizard from her pocket.
He grabbed the creature and tied Iris's hair on it's tail with a piece of cloth. He then fished a meat from his pocket and put it in front of the lizard, but before the creature could eat it, the alpha already tossed it to the fire.
Everything happened so fast, even the warrior around him couldn't grasp what was actually happening a moment ago when the lizard disappeared into the flame and Cane stomped his feet to put off the fire.
"Alpha, did you kill the lizard?" Eron asked, he squatted down, but he couldn't see the remaining of the lizard.
Yet, instead of an explanation, Cane told them to prepare themselves.
Probably, it was only Iris, who understood what Cane had just done with the lizard, but she was not sure where the lizard would appear and who would find it.
And before long, ten minutes was up, they were ready to leave, but before that, the king asked Cane and alpha Dristan to ride beside him, while lady Cyan rode behind them with Iris.
Eron shifted into his beast and gave up his horse for Iris, since she would ride by herself.
"Dyne, can you ride with her?" Iris asked, nodded at alpha Dristan's new mistress. It seemed, the alpha didn't care much about her now his mind was occupied with something more important and he let his mistress to walk.
Dyne nodded obediently and came closer to the young woman. "Come with me, my luna asked for you to ride with me."2
Dyne was glad Iris asked him, because he didn't have a heart to see this young woman to run behind them all day when alpha Dristan abandoned her, especially when she looked like she was about to pass out due how pale her face was.
He knew how kind his luna was, but it still surprised him time and time again of how compassionate she was.
