I SAW THEM
Iris was dumbstruck when she witnessed there were so many wolf spirits emerged from the shadow of the trees, their form was almost translucent, though their fur were in different color.
"Cane…" Iris gasped. She could feel sadness washed over her to see these wolf spirits came to her. They were approaching her carefully, before they shifted into their human form, but still, they were still as spirit and all of them were the warriors, some of them were the warriors that she knew. Some of them were familiar faces for her.
What the meaning of this?
Before, Iris could only see their spirit attached to their body, but what the meaning of it, if their spirit was no longer together with their concrete body?
No. The thought crossed Iris's mind, but she didn't even want to entertain the idea. How could there were so many of them if that really happened?
"What is it?" Cane was still cradling Iris and watched her tears fell, as she started sobbing. "What happened? Why are you crying?" He tried to follow her line of sight, but all he could see was trees and bushes, there was nothing interesting or particular that could cause her to be so emotional. "What are you staring at?"
Iris was trembling and her tears fell even more when those warriors came approaching her, not because she was afraid of them, but more like she was afraid what had happened to them, which caused they were like this.
"Iris, tell me, what is it? Why are you crying?" Cane could see how Iris became even more emotional now, as her tears didn't stop flowing down from her beautiful eyes. She looked mortified, but there was a deep sadness too.
Right at that time, Haco came along with the other four warriors, as they survived the monster's rampant, but they lost trace on Zeke and Lady Cyan. They managed to escape, though they were not sure, whether they could survive the attack.
"Iris?" Cane cupped her face, he looked around one more time to make sure he didn't miss anything, probably his lethargic state caused him to be a little bit reckless, but even after that, he still couldn't find a reason why Iris was a crying mess like this. "Tell me what is it? Why are you crying?"
Cane used to wait until Iris was ready to talk, but he was being impatient now. Both of them, all of them were so drained physically and emotionally.
"I saw them, Cane, I am not sure what the meaning of this…" Iris said through her tears.
"What are you seeing?" Cane looked at the spot, where Iris had been staring at, but he was sure, he didn't miss anything. There was nothing there.
"Their spirit," Iris said in a whispery tone.
Right at that time, Haco came with the other two warriors, it was Oliver and Eron, the former rushed toward Cane immediately, once he saw the alpha.
"Alpha Cane! I thought I did a mistake when I sensed your scent," he said in relief, but he stopped a few steps away from Cane, remembered what he had seen earlier, but still, he couldn't stop himself. "Alpha, our pack is under attack, those royal warriors and Blue Moon pack raised mutiny. I have sent Dean and Dyne to check the situation there."
They learned about this from Haco, once they managed to escape those monsters and Oliver took the initiative to split the group into two.
On the other hand, Eron looked reluctant to approach Cane as well, he stood next to Oliver and asked Iris. "Luna, are you, okay?" He could see how his luna was crying right now. Was it because of the alpha? Did he hurt her? But it was unlikely…
It was only Haco, who didn't care much and approach Cane and Iris.
"Cane, it's them… there are so many of them… half of your pack if I can say," Iris said through her gritted teeth, trying to make her words coherent for the alpha to understand her. "Their spirit is here."
"What is it? What do I miss?" Haco asked busily. He looked disheveled and exhausted, he looked so old and fragile, as if his body was about to collapse anytime soon, yet his eyes were still bright. He was still vigilant.
Meanwhile, Cane didn't say anything, he seemed to try to process what Iris tried to say and learn the situation, though his head throbbed painfully and his body demanded for him to stop thinking, or doing anything…
"You are seeing their spirit because they are dead?" Cane blurted it out. "Is that it?"
Iris grinded her teeth, she didn't want to say it, as if by admitting that, it made it final and she couldn't think of how many lost they had suffered in less than a day…
Haco stared at Cane and Iris back and forth, trying to understand the situation on his own, but there were missing parts that he couldn't guess. "What is it? What spirit? What did you see?"
Cane tried his best to suppress his emotions, since Iris was already like this. "Do you see… Ethan and Jace?"
"No." Iris shook her head. The two of them were the first people she looked for among those warriors when the realization dawned on her.
Cane nodded. His face was devoid from any emotions. "Why they are here? Are they here to see you? Why?"
Iris shook her head. "I don't know."
"Ah!" Haco finally caught up with them, while Oliver and Eron were still at lost with the conversation. "You are seeing spirit, right?" Haco clapped his hands. "See? I told you! My guess is right!" The sorcerer looked shocked, but at the same time, he looked satisfied for being right. "But, how could that possible? In this case, it is whether the one in the Holy Kingdom is fake or there are two of you."
"Haco, do you know what is it?" Iris stopped his rumbling. 1
