462: I hate children

I hate children

Heaven stood in the middle of the hallway with a mere pistol in her hand and a phone in her pocket. Joker continuously spoke, giving out details she needed without care if she could hear him or not.  2

"On a good note, Bear already cleared up the third floor and is going crazy on the second floor. Ooops. A chopper incoming — oh, it's not loaded with a bomb, thankfully, but that motherfucker finally showed up." Joker giggled from wherever he was, and by the change of his tone, Heaven knew he was elated for some reason. 

"Send him one of your little spiders. I'll deal with him later." Heaven breathed out, but the man on the other end of the line couldn't help but arch a brow. But before Joker could comment on her "order," his face twitched upon hearing her speak.

"Get out of there!" Heaven yelled as she fearlessly marched through the hallway. "You better fight before I come for you!" 

Heaven bent down on her way, looting a rifle from a dead person lying on the path. The corner of her mouth curled up as she hissed, picking up her pace toward the end of the hallway. 

"There's four people there. Two are armed with assault rifles: M16, the other two…" As she marched to her death, Joker gave her more details of what she should expect, giving her distance from where the enemy stood and so on. 

"Though I don't know if you understood all of that…"

"Doesn't matter —" Heaven took a deep breath as she sprinted, gliding down to her knees as she raised the rifle she picked up previously. 

BANG BANG BANG!

The second she caught a glimpse of the end hallway, Heaven shot fired at three moving targets. Using the pistol in her possession, she slid it through her torso, shooting the person hiding on the other side of the hallway. 

Joker: "..."

"Well… I guess you understood." He cleared his throat, seeing that the four people waiting at the end of the hallway fell. He kept his eyes on the small monitor he was in, watching movements through a thermal scanner. 

"On the left… more people are coming," he continued, giving her instructions and unknowingly doing a habit he hadn't done for a long time. "One… two… three… shit. There's ten!"

Heaven, on the other hand, was still on the move. She once again picked up another rifle and magazine, keeping the pistol at the back of her pants.

"Fine," she breathed out, heading straight to where the enemies were coming. She raised both the rifles up, stopping in the middle of the other hallway with glinting eyes. The moment she caught a shadow sneaking out of the other end of the hallway, she shot continuous fire.

BANG BANG BANG BANG!

"Man… that's some John Rambo shit!" Joker cheered, sort of liking this person he was guiding. "Being an eye seems worth it. Oh, a smoke grenade!" 

Heaven used up half of the ammo she got, taking down six people while the rest took cover. Yet, she didn't stop, nor did she hide. Instead, she ran straight to where the enemies were, jumping on the right wall. Her foot barely touched the wall, using it to keep momentum to reach the end of the hallways above the ground. 

Meanwhile, the people at the end of the hallway looked at each other and nodded. Upon having a silent agreement to shoot fire, two of them peeked over the wall to shoot the person who took down their colleague. However, at the same time, their breath hitched as time slowed down. 

Slowly, they gazed up, making their eyes dilate at the woman in the air diagonally. She was holding a rifle at them. Her phoenix eyes were blazing like a scorching sun, and before they knew it, darkness embraced them.

"See you all in hell, motherfuckers." Her voice was quiet, but somehow, they heard her loud and clear. 

"No," a man barely whispered his reluctance before a hole appeared straight to his eye, dying on the spot. 

BANG BANG BANG!!!

"Woohoo!" Joker cheered excitedly as he watched the ten men fall one after another, seeing that the figure he had been following through the screen was running, sliding, and jumping to take down the enemies. It felt like watching an action movie at this point. 

"This..." He shook his head, gliding his fingers through the keyboard while keeping his eyes on the screen. "I need to see this."

Joker arched a brow as he glanced at the other screen, only to see Sebastian tremble in fear. 

"Man…" he sighed, raising the volume of the music he was playing for the kid. 

"Hey, whoever you are. Your kid is not doing well," he said, maneuvering the spiders that were guarding the cramped room to protect the children. His other hand also worked on sending drones and giving out details to the authorities, who were sadly caught up with troublesome enemies. 

"Help will take longer because some motherfucker is holding them back," he continued, unable to focus on the show on the other matters at hand. "There's more in that area, standing ten meters' feet. Be careful, though. Oh shit! Hang on. They're here."

Joker busily worked his fingers at the top speed, doing everything at the same time. Right now, he didn't even know why he was doing all of this when he believed he had already done enough. However, Joker hadn't thought about any of that just yet. All he knew was that… he would blame himself if those kids died under his watch. 

"Damn… this is why I hate children," he murmured, maneuvering the drone to find someone. "They make me work so hard. Why do they have to be so weak and innocent and pathetic?"

Heaven couldn't help but smirk amid the crossfire, taking down more enemies in her path. She knew Joker from inside and out, and despite his eccentric and villainous perspective, there was one thing they had in common. 

Both Hera and Joker had a soft spot for children. It was his way of healing his inner child… though his other deeds were more like healing his inner demon. At least, he got one redeemable quality.
