478: Let's part ways, Heaven Liu.

Author: BAJJ Word Count: 6241 Updated: 2025-03-06 17:11:20

Let's part ways, Heaven Liu.

Days had passed in a blur for Heaven. Her days passed by with her staying in the private ward, Axel keeping her company for a few hours, and when it was time for him to leave, she would be alone again. Bear would visit her from time to time, keeping her updated on what was going on outside. Most specifically, the members of the family's condition.  2

She heard Ria was doing well now as she had regained full consciousness. Axel was already discharged but was living in a hotel nearby. Lionel was still in a coma, but he had shown signs of regaining his consciousness just yesterday. Meanwhile, Sebastian and Riley fully recovered from everyone's united help. Bear didn't give her full details of the rest, knowing Heaven wouldn't even process it.

"And yet... he still hadn't come," she whispered, caressing her stomach as her back rested on the headboard. "That jerk."

Her eyes softened as pain flickered across them. However, tears didn't fall from her eyes. She had been crying incessantly for the past few days and she felt like she no longer had tears to shed. Also, she had to think of her child as she had some spotting yesterday.

Knock Knock

Heaven didn't turn her head to check the person knocking on the door. She could already guess because there were only three in the option. It was either Axel or Bear or her doctor, with some junior residents. In this case, it was the latter.

"Mrs. Zhu." The head physician smiled, standing beside the bed. "How are you feeling right now?"

"Numb."

The head physician raised his brows, maintaining his smile. "Are you hurt anywhere? We'll do another round of check-ups so we know if you can be discharged..."

Heaven barely listened to the head physician's remarks, keeping her eyes on the window not far away. She didn't even react when they did their quick check-up, following their instructions without condition.

"Your vitals seemed normal. Tomorrow, we'll do an ultrasound..." the head physician announced in relief, but she kept a straight face.

"As long as my baby is okay," was all she said after a long time, earning a reassuring smile from the doctor.

"The baby is fighting fiercely. The baby is healthy, but we still need to make sure before we let you go. Anyway, continue resting so you have energy and strength for you and your child." The head physician idled for a while before bidding her farewell.

Heaven kept her eyes on the shut door as the group of doctors left her ward. Silence quickly descended on her shoulder, dominating the ward in no time.

"Good thing," she whispered as she peeled her gaze from the door, setting her eyes on the window not far away from her bed. She placed her hand on her stomach, patting it gently. "I told myself I would protect you, but even until now, you're the one who's keeping me sane."

The corner of her mouth curled up bitterly. "They said babies could feel what their mothers feel. But... don't be discouraged, baby. Do not hate or resent your daddy. He just has a lot on his plate right now, so we have to understand it will take him some time to process things with a clear head."

"That's right." She rocked her head, forcing a smile. "Once he comes, everything will be alright."

The words that came out of her mouth weren't just words of encouragement for her baby. It was also for her. After all, she didn't want to be scared anymore. She wanted to believe in Dominic and their relationship. Even though her last conversation with him ended on a bad note, she had to believe in magic.

If someone like her was given a second chance in life, then nothing was impossible.

'Nothing is impossible,'she repeated in her mind, closing her eyes as she took a deep breath. 'Nothing is impossible.'

Heaven repeated that sentence in her mind like a broken record. After some time, she leaned back and relaxed her body. She cleared her mind to maintain her peace, taking a nap as part of her menial life in the hospital.

Napping had been part of her daily routine because she didn't have anything else to do. Although Butler Fu brought her some knitting kits, she didn't have the energy to finish anything at the moment. When Heaven woke up, what welcomed her was the same high ceiling she had stared at for hours since the incident.

Nothing new.

Heaven slowly turned her head to the side, only for her eyes to fall on someone sitting on the chair beside the bed. Her eyelashes fluttered languidly, watching Dominic stare back at her with a stony countenance.

"Your bags under your eyes are darker," she noticed, peeling her gaze from him to look at the ceiling. "You should get some proper sleep since Mr. Zhang is already discharged. Butler Fu is also there to assist him. So, I think you can at least rest."

Silence was the answer she got. It didn't surprise her, though. From the look on his face, she could already tell he didn't come here to console her. Whatever the reason, she didn't want to hear it.

Here they go again.

"Dominic Zhu…" Heaven took a deep breath as her lips quivered. Her eyes, which were fixed on the ceiling, shook slightly as a thin layer of tears coated them. "Remember. If you fall, this entire family will fall. To take care of Basti, Axel, Mom, and Dad… you need to be strong and healthy. Skipping meals and sleeping less isn't the correct way to take care of the family."

She turned her head back to him, even if looking back at him was akin to a stab to her heart. She missed him, after all.

"Do you hear me?" she muttered lifelessly. "You cannot protect anyone if you don't protect yourself."

"I'll rest once I settle this matter." Dominic leaned forward, picked up the folder on his side, and then placed it on the side of the bed. Her brows rose as she glanced at the folder.

"I tore the papers you signed a few months ago, thinking there was no need to keep it. So, I have to get a new one," he explained, keeping it vague. However, she already had an idea of what was in the folder.

Heaven picked up the folder slowly, opening it to confirm her suspicion.

"Let's part ways, Heaven Liu."
