Run for your life
"You should answer that. You might get enlightened if you do."0
Silas looked at Dominic with doubt and suspicion. He kept his eyes on him as he slid his hands inside his suit pocket. Even when he answered the call, Silas kept his full attention to Dominic.
"Hey man, can you tell my boss everything's clear here?"
Deep lines appeared between his brows as he heard a man's breathy and cocky voice. His tone was a mix of a bit of exhaustion and arrogance.
"You…"
"Right. How rude of me to not introduce myself. My bad," said the person on the other end of the line. "It's me, your colleague, Mr. M. Your people confiscated my phone, so I had to borrow one of your men's phones."
"Although… I can't borrow it properly from him because he's already sleeping peacefully," Moose continued. "Anyway, please relay my message to CEO Zhu. Tell him everything is clear here and his guests were safe — well, one of them was shot in the leg, but he'll be fine. It's his fault, anyway."
As Silas listened to Moose's remarks, his irises continued to grow wide. He instinctively held his breath throughout the entire phone call, eyes wide on Dominic.
"I suppose that is Moose," Dominic said.
"Yes, it is!" Moose replied, but Dominic didn't hear it. "Boss, don't forget the discount you promised on the stock prices. Right. He can't probably hear me, but well, tell him that, my colleague. Thanks!"
With that being said, Moose ended the call without a second hesitation.

Meanwhile…
"Well, I guess they're still fine over there." Moose immediately ended the call and tossed the phone on the body underneath his foot. "Thanks for letting me borrow your phone. You might not hear it now, but I sincerely wish that your soul rests in peace."
He nodded reassuringly, keeping his lips pressed into a thin line. He then raised a brow, turning his head to the people in the hallway. Dominic's guests and some board of directors were on the floor, shaking in fear, rattled to the core.
"Ugh…" one of the guests pressed his hand on the wound on his leg, teeth clenched. However, none of the people alive here helped him. They were just too busy wondering how come they were still alive after that shower of bullets that lit up the hallway throughout that brief power outage.
"What… what just happened?" The senator's voice shook as his eyes fell on one of the masked men, lying in his pool of blood just right beside him. His mouth opened and closed, but his voice didn't come out of his throat.
"What happened is that they died because they picked the wrong side."
The senator got his answer almost immediately. He turned his head to the owner of the voice, only to see Moose picking up a rifle from one of the dead masked men. He watched Moose take off the weapon straps before making his way to one of the guests, who got shot in the leg.
"This is what happens when you choose to go against Dominic Zhu," Moose continued as he squatted down to the injured guest. He assessed the guests, catching the beads of sweat forming on the man's forehead. "You die."
"What?" the injured guest was damp with buckets of sweat. His complexion was already pale and the pain in his leg crept to the ends of his toe and head.
"I'm not saying you, silly," Moose chuckled. "Anyway, give me your leg. You'll bleed out if we don't do anything about it. It'll hurt, though."
The injured guests could only stare at this new member of the board with a bit of doubt. However, Moose seemed to know about these things and he believed he would bleed out if nothing was done to his gunshot wound. So, without saying anything, the man let his leg go and let Moose tie the strap on it to slow down his bleeding.
Not just the injured guest, but everyone could only stare at Moose for a moment.
"What were you thinking?!" Once Moose was done slowing down the bleeding, the senator roared. "Why did you do that?"
Moose cocked his head a little to the side, looking at the senator lazily. "Did you really think they would make us leave this place alive?"
"Huh?"
"Senator, you're old and, for sure, you got tons of experience. I'd be very disappointed if the person who serves this country and its people is this gullible."
The senator opened his mouth, but his voice was stuck in his throat. He glanced at the dead body beside him and his entire body shivered once again at the sight of it.
"These guys were planning to kill us all — they won't let us live." Moose moved closer to the injured guest, making the latter furrow his brows. "After all, the person we are up to is a dangerous and wicked man in the underground. One of his fortes, from what I heard, is shaking a nation by taking out important individuals who keep the country together. You don't need logic here to realize he'll benefit more if everyone in here dies."
He cast the senator and the other guests another knowing look. "Are you getting what I'm saying?" A short snicker slipped past his smirking lips at the silence he received in response.
They didn't have to answer Moose for the man to get the answer he needed. Their silence was enough for him to know his short remarks were enough to wake up all of them. With that mutual silent understanding, Moose faced the injured guests once more.
"So?" His lips stretched from ear to ear until his eyes were squinting. "Let me help you, Mayor. I don't think you can walk all on your own."
The injured guest, who was the Mayor of Cakewalk County, looked at Moose with slight hesitation. But the latter was right.
"This place is still surrounded," he said before casting everyone a look. "Help me, my friends. We shouldn't burden this young man right here — he's the only hope we got right now."
"Oh, come on. You flatter me." Moose giggled as he waved dismissively.
But in the end, the rest helped the injured mayor to stand up and get away from this place. Meanwhile, Moose looted the dead, knowing there would be more action on their way out. Glancing over his shoulder, Moose asked,
"You guys ready to run for your life?"
Everyone looked at him with slight determination. Most of them might be old, but to survive, they could endure their joint pains for as long as they could.
"Great!" Moose smirked as he set his eyes ahead. "Once we get out of here, don't forget you owe me."
