Unlucky hostage
Ivy held her breath as her pupils slowly dilated. Silas, who turned up at the door heading to the emergency stairs she was in, also stared back at her. All they could do for a moment was stare at each other for a second, surprised at each other's presence.2
"No," Ivy breathed out as shook her head mildly. Of all the people she could meet right now, this man appeared out of nowhere. What was he even doing here in the first place? She wondered.
Or…
"Are you also trying to hide?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, assuming Silas probably was in the same situation as her. Ivy didn't exactly know who the people were that had taken Dominic as hostage. Meaning, she had zero idea that Silas was the culprit of tonight's massacre.
Silas's lips parted to give her the most obvious lie. However, before his answer could get out of his throat, Dominic's thunderous roar reached their ears.
"SILAS!"
"Dom?" Ivy furrowed her brows. She never heard Dominic yell all her life, but she could recognize his voice just by the sound of it. They were childhood friends, after all. "What is he…"
Ivy suddenly froze as the rest of her sentence rolled back to her throat. Her eyes shook a little, shifting them to Silas. Her gaze went up and down a little, only to notice the rifle in his hand. One would think he was in the same situation as her, but now that she thought about it, Silas shouldn't be in this place.
They chased everyone out here except those on the list. Ivy was lucky to not be on the list, just like Silas. But she had the reason she was in this place despite not being named by the voice earlier. She wanted to think Joker also contacted this man, but she doubted it.
That left her with one possibility.
Silas was one of the enemies.
"No," she whispered once again, as she paled almost instantly. She shook her head, and after taking a deep breath, Ivy turned around to run away from him. "Kyah!!!"
Unfortunately, just as Ivy turned around to leave, a hand grabbed the back of her hair. A loud squeal immediately escaped her mouth, clutching his wrist on instinct as he pulled her back.
"AH!! Silas —"
"Shut up!" Silas pressed the rifle's muzzle to her jaw, making her close her mouth in a second. "Shut up, Vee, or I'm going to blow your head off."
Ivy bit her entire bottom lips as she looked back at him, nodding like a tamed puppy. Silas didn't do anything for the next several seconds, but stared at her, assessing if she understood the situation.
"SILAS!"
"That bastard!" Silas hissed as he heard Dominic's voice coming closer, glaring back at the shut emergency door. "Why is he so persistent? Tch."
He slowly set his eyes back on the woman in front of him, releasing her hair before swiftly taking her wrist. He pressed her wrist on her back, making her wince at his aggressiveness.
"Give me a hard time, and I'll blow your head off. This is your fault for being smart, Vee. You shouldn't have figured out I'm one of the masterminds behind this night." Silas lifted his gaze at her, unfazed by the tear that rolled down her cheek. "I want to live just as much as you want to survive this night, Vee. So if I were you, just follow what I say. It'll prolong your stupid life. Go!"
Ivy sniffed hard as her chest trembled with many emotions. But in the end, all she could do was nod at his command. Silas pushed her a little, and without making a huge fuss, she started going up with her hand twisted on her back.
As the two of them reached seven steps in the stairs, Ivy suddenly stopped as she yelled at the sound of gunshots not far away from them. They looked back and then down on instinct, only to see holes in the door they had been standing in front of a few moments before.
'Oh my god,' Ivy's lips quivered, thinking if they didn't move away, they would have been dead by now.
"Tch!" Silas snapped his tongue in irritation once again before setting his blazing eyes on her. "Move!" He pushed her a little, snapping her back from her trance. Ivy didn't even need to use her head for what was going on, as she just listened to his command.
Ivy started taking the stairs once again, enduring her trembling knees and racing heart and all the inexplicable fright dominated her mind, heart, and soul. She just wanted to get away from here. She truly wanted to live more.
Surely, one would appreciate life when they were in a life-and-death situation. She never truly appreciated it before and didn't know that life was so precious until now.
BAM!
Ivy slowed down for a moment when she heard the door where Silas came from open. She didn't know why, but she peeked over the railing, only to see Dominic doing the same. The only difference was that Dominic was looking up while she was looking down.
"Dom!" she yelled on instinct as she caught Dominic's rifle, ready to fire at them. "It's me!"
"Ivy?!" Dominic held his breath as his eyes dilated for a moment. "What are you —"
"If you still follow me, I'm going to kill her!" Silas roared without revealing himself to Dominic, pressing the rifle on the back of her jaw. "Do you understand?!"
Dominic clenched his teeth, much more furious now that Silas had a hostage to use. He clutched the railing and then jumped away when he saw the rifle move down.
BANG BANG BANG!
"Kyah!" Ivy's scream harmonized with the three gunshots, but before she could recover, Silas tugged her wrist.
"Let's go!" he huffed, pushing her up without a care. As they did so, he glanced over the railing to check if he hit Dominic. But when he glimpsed at Dominic's shadow, he hissed in disappointment.
'He's still alive? Just how much more lucky can he get? Tsk!'Silas didn't stop though, taking Ivy up the stairs with ease, knowing Dominic wouldn't carelessly shoot him anymore because Ivy was with him.
