[Bonus chapter] Miracle
Waking up the next day after delivery was filled with many mixed emotions. Heaven immediately touched her stomach in disbelief that her belly wasn't as huge as the day before. She hadn't immediately wrapped her head around it. 1
Everything just felt strange. Even the hunger she felt on her first meal and how big her appetite was felt strange. Not being pregnant anymore felt weird. Even the saggy extra skin and fats in her belly looked abnormal.
That didn't matter though, because all of those things paled in comparison to the little life in her arms.
"Are you okay?" Dominic moved closer to the bed, worry filled his eyes. "You look in pain."
"It hurts." Heaven offered him a quick smile before gazing down at the little bun in her arms. "But I want to do this."
Her face crumpled at the pain in her breast, teeth clenched as her newborn sucked her nipple. Breastfeeding wasn't as easy as it appeared. All those women in commercial advertisement smiling whilst nursing a child wasn't true.
It hurt.
However, not nursing her newborn felt like her bosom would explode. She couldn't even touch her chest before they took the child to her so she could feed her.
"She's very hungry." Heaven couldn't help but let out an airy laugh, watching her child feed. "That's probably the reason I had such an appetite this morning."
Dominic's eyes softened as he watched Heaven happily nurse their daughter. The latter seemed to be in pain while doing so, but she appeared to like what she was doing.
"Hmm?" Heaven raised her brows when she felt his large hand on her shoulder. When she turned her head, Dominic already bent over to kiss her head.
"Thank you," he whispered, drawing his head back to look at her. "If there's anything you need, just tell me."
"Mhm." Heaven rocked her head, smiling. "How's Basti, anyway?"
"He's with Axel. He has therapy today, but they'll come straight here right after."
"I see," Heaven huffed quietly as she set her attention to her baby. She slowly reached for the baby's hand, giggling as she raised it a bit.
"Dom, look." She looked back at Dominic again while showcasing the baby's hand. "So cute~!"
"They're so tiny." Dominic chuckled as he moved from the chair to the edge of the bed. He stretched his neck, gazing at his wife's breast where the baby was feeding. "Does it really hurt?"
"Mhm. But I can manage." Heaven also gazed back at her baby girl. "I think I'll get used to it. As long as she's fed enough and properly, I don't mind enduring the slight pain."
"I never thought I would ever want to nurse as well." She chuckled at his remarks, feeling his head rest on top of her head. "She's eating very well. How strange."
"Is it?"
"Mhm." Dominic blinked ever so tenderly before he blurted out. "You don't look hurt when I do it, though."
"Dominic Zhu!" Heaven pulled her head away to glare at him. "Is that really what you're thinking right now?"
"No." Dominic pressed his lips into a thin line as if he was caught red-handed. "I mean, I have no idea, and it was a random thought."
He carefully rested his head on top of her again, cradling her without disturbing the baby. "I'm sorry if that's a little inappropriate. My bad."
"Goodness."
"Hehe."
Heaven shook her head but didn't dwell on it. At this point, she was almost used to his personality. Dominic would sometimes say the craziest things in the most random time. Sometimes, he would argue — if that even called arguing — if he didn't get the answer he wanted.
"This is my first time seeing a woman nursing," he remarked after a moment, keeping his attention on his child. "Heaven Liu didn't nurse Basti. Even if she did, she wouldn't let me see."
Heaven glanced at him, but then smiled. She smacked her lips as her eyes softened.
"I don't want to talk crap about her anymore. I've already done enough," she muttered. "Also, whether or not I like it, I owe her this life. Hera will never experience motherhood in her life… that's for sure."
Dominic slid his eyes back to her but didn't say anything. He kept his thoughts to himself, knowing it would benefit no one. He didn't need to ask her, though. After all, the answer was too obvious.
Hera… never had a man.
She had countless men, but not one of them took the role of her life partner. That somehow felt like a compliment.
"I'm lucky," he whispered, making her raise her brows while asking, "Why?"
Dominic's only answer to that question was, "Because of many things. You're one of them."
"Gosh." Heaven shook her head, smiling in satisfaction. "I still can't believe that baby in me is finally here."
"Me too." Dominic slowly reached for the baby's hand, giving his index for his daughter to cling to. "She's so beautiful… just like you."
"She should take after me, of course." Heaven giggled as both of them admired the baby's existence with grateful hearts.
What a blessing, indeed.
They stayed like that until the baby stopped feeding, sleeping quietly in her mother's arms. Dominic still stayed on the side of the bed behind Heaven. They didn't talk that much, but time still passed so quickly just by staring at the beautiful blessing in their family.
Knock Knock
After an hour, a knock came from outside the door. Dominic and Heaven glanced at it, only to see the door open. There, entering the door, was Sebastian in a wheelchair and Axel wheeling his nephew in.
Heaven and Dominic's smiles stretched the second they caught the excited grin on their son.
"Mommy~! Daddy~! I'm back~!" Sebastian's cheek blushed, excited to meet his family right after his therapy.
This time, Dominic pulled himself away from the bed to meet his son halfway. When he reached Sebastian, he squatted down.
"How was the therapy?" he asked gently, earning a proud look from his son.
"I did very well so I can see the baby!"
"Good job, son." Dominic patted Sebastian's head. "Want me to carry you?"
Sebastian nodded profusely and, just like that, Dominic carried his son in his arms. The latter marched toward the bed, joining Heaven and the baby.
"Baby…" Heaven turned her head back, smiling as Sebastian planted a kiss on her cheek. Sebastian then moved his head over her to peek at the baby.
"Mommy, she's so tiny, like a doll!"
"You think so too?" she chuckled as she chatted with Sebastian, praising the baby to the high heavens. Meanwhile, Dominic held Sebastian so he wouldn't fall over his mother, and also to watch his weight.
"Gosh…" Axel pouted, watching the four squeeze themselves into a single bed. "Hey, are you ignoring me again?"
He clicked his tongue, marching to the other side of the bed to join them. But even before he could, Dominic and Sebastian already dropped their unnecessary remarks to dishearten him.
