[Bonus chapter] Newcomer

"How… in the world did I end up here again?"0

Heaven wobbled down to the seat given to her, dropping the documents she meant to give to the lady crying in the bathroom earlier. She couldn't blame the people for misunderstanding, though. After all, she also had her faults too.

Why did she even apologize when the senior employee told her about being late? She could've explained to him that she wasn't the newcomer, but someone who wanted to give these documents to the woman she almost bumped into.

"Hay…" Heaven sighed deeply, glancing at the papers on her desk and then her computer. "Maybe a part of me wanted to see how far this misunderstanding would go. I can just leave when the newcomer returns after her breakdown."

Heaven shrugged, not bothered by this misunderstanding that much. She could always leave anytime, after all.

"Let's see what is my husband up to nowadays," she murmured, inspecting the documents more thoroughly this time. "Did my senior say it's my first day today? No wonder the newcomer was crying. This is too much for her first day."

Heaven shook her head, having a terrible impression of this company's work environment. "I will never work in this place if it's this toxic." Her scrunched face stiffened, realizing this was her husband's company.

"Well, shit." She shrugged, raising her brows momentarily as she tried to refocus on this task at hand. "Whatever."

Knock knock.

Heaven looked up when a person suddenly knocked on the side of her cubicle. There was a woman with thick glasses, long hair, and pale lips.

"You're the newcomer, right?" asked the woman wearing a turtleneck that seemed to be the reason for her pale complexion. "Can you print this out for me? I really need them later."

Heaven's eyes fell on the handful of papers the woman placed on her desk. She then looked up at her again, only to see the woman smile at her subtly.

"Thanks," said the woman before walking away, as if she didn't need Heaven's response.

"..." Heaven stared at the woman's figure as the latter dragged herself back to her desk. "Goodness. Just because I'm a newcomer, they think I am their errand girl — wait, why am I calling myself a newcomer?"

Heaven clicked her tongue and sighed, keeping her attention to the lady who asked for her help. Seeing that the latter seemed she was about to faint any moment, Heaven shook her head.

"Fine. I'll do this out of the goodness of my heart," was what she told herself, taking the handful of papers to make a copy. If not for the reason she felt sorry for everyone here who seemed to be overworked, Heaven would've left. But the lady said she needed copies for this.

As Heaven stood up and walked away, she turned her head to the lady, who asked for her help. The annoyance in her heart disappeared, seeing that the female employee took a power nap on her desk.

"I wonder if Dom knows about this work environment?" she murmured, dragging her feet to the hallway outside where she could photocopy the papers in her hand. "I don't think I'd last for a week if I'm an employee here."

Fortunately, there was an instruction on how to operate the photocopier. Or else Heaven wouldn't even know how to do the request. This was a new experience for her.

As she made several copies of each page, Heaven couldn't help but think about the working environment here. Everyone seemed they were running out of time. Now that she thought about it more, she could feel the pressure everyone was carrying.

"It's only my first day, but I feel pressured already," she murmured, forgetting she was simply dragged into this misunderstanding she created herself. "But then again, this is somewhat good. If everyone were competing with each other, they'd do well. They also wouldn't have time to do other things that would implicate the company because they're too busy trying to get that promotion."

Heaven rocked her head, giving some justification for this company's competitive work environment. After all, the LYON Group pay grade was very high. Even the lowest role in the company was paid better and had better benefits than most employees in other companies.

"No wonder my husband is always exhausted whenever he comes home," she murmured, stacking up the copies and arranging them according to their numbers. Once she finished, she went to the lady who asked for her help.

The woman was still napping, so Heaven simply placed the copies on the side of her desk. Heaven thought she could rest for a bit and idle. But when she returned to her desk, she caught three sticky notes attached to the top of her monitor.

"Huh?" Deep lines appeared between her brows, and she snatched the first sticky note to read it. "Please make ten copies of this."

Heaven slowly gazed down at the thick papers on the side of her desk. There was another sticky note on top of them which had the same color as the one in between her fingers. Her eyes then glossed over to the other papers near it, making her face twitch in dismay.

"Oh, boy." She shook her head, realizing why the woman was crying in the bathroom earlier. "It's just my first day, but I have to do all these errands on top of needing to finish my own designs. Isn't this too much for a newcomer? This is an abuse of power!"

Heaven mentally harrumphed, but in the end, she still did the errand as if she unknowingly accepted this role.

Meanwhile, in the CEO's floor office.

"Uh… Bear, where do you think she is right now?" Gray turned to Bear as they met in front of the lift after checking the CEO's office, only for the staff there to tell them no one came. "Do you think she got lost?"

Bear kept his eyes on the lift, his expression stern. "I should've tagged along with her. It's been hours since she came in here. It's impossible she still hasn't figured out where the CEO's office is."

"Dang…" Gray shook his head. "I hope she's okay."

Little did they know, there was no need to worry. Heaven was just held up by countless errands as a newcomer in the art department.
