[Bonus chapter] Mama needs to work
The rooftop of the LYON Group's building was one of the best places for the employees to hang around. A massive garden for some peaceful time, benches to sit on to idle, and beautiful flowers to grace one's eyes truly made its purpose effective for tired and stressed employees. During office hours, though, this place was often empty. 2
Heaven had to run another errand in a different department. She used this opportunity to meet her friend, Ivy Wei, on the rooftop. Looking around the massive space, Heaven almost immediately caught the woman sitting on one of the benches.
"What is she doing here?" she murmured, trudging toward Ivy and then perched on the vacant space beside her. "Hey."
Ivy turned her head and smiled at the sight of her friend. "Hey."
"First things first. Did Dom tell you that I'm now working in the art department?"
"I had a meeting today with him, but he canceled at the last minute. So I thought I should visit you and chat, but he said you're working." Ivy wasn't stingy with her explanation, giving Heaven a rough idea of how she found out about Heaven's employment. "So, that's how I found out that you are also in the building as an errand girl."
"I see."
"You're really ridiculous sometimes, Heaven." Ivy shook her head, chuckling at the thought of Heaven slaving away in the busiest department of the company.
"Don't be like that. It's just a coincidence, but here I am." Heaven shrugged as she leaned back against the bench, stretching her legs to ease her muscles. She cocked her head back and then turned it to the side. "Why did you ask to meet, though? It's so unlike you to ask me to meet when you hate bothering people."
Her face turned ugly as an assumption crossed her mind. "Don't tell me because we're friends, you think you can bother me even during my work? My superior is very scary, you know?"
"Haha. No, it's not like that." Ivy laughed, facing Heaven squarely. "I didn't want to bother you, but I'm curious about something."
"Curious about something?" Heaven furrowed her brows. "This might be important that you can't wait for later."
"It's not really like that, but I heard a strange news today." Ivy bit her lips, hesitation flickering across her eyes. "Is it true that Silas was beaten up last night?"
Heaven stared at her friend blankly. "Ivy, before I answer that question. Can you answer my question first?"
"Hmm?"
"Is the person you like, Silas?"
Ivy furrowed her brows, finding Heaven's question a bit random. She still answered, anyway.
"No," she shook her head. "Dom is not even my type. What makes you think I will like a person who has his face?"
"That's good." Heaven patted her chest in relief. "For a second, I felt nervous that the man you've been in love with is him. But anyway, the answer to your question is yes. That's true."
She looked back at Ivy once again, nodding. "Silas is now in the hospital, recovering from his injuries. Both his hands were broken — they're still intact, though. He might be staying there for a few days since he was beaten up pretty badly."
"I see…" Ivy rocked her head, lowering her eyes as she tried to wrap her head around it.
"No one seems to know about that, though." Heaven looked away from her as she hummed, remembering the situation in the art department. It was the same as it was yesterday as if none of them heard that one of the directors was beaten up by the CEO's head of security.
"Why are you asking, by the way?" she asked, setting her attention back to Ivy. "Were you worried about him?"
"No. He can die for all I care." Ivy pressed her lips together, hesitating to ask another question. "The person who had done such a thing to him is… the head of security?"
"Mhm."
"Why?"
"No idea. Even I am mystified!" Heaven sighed, recalling the mystery she still hadn't cracked. "Tiger told the committee that he was annoyed by Silas, but it's still crazy. He isn't like that."
As Heaven kept speaking her thoughts aloud, Ivy cast her eyes down. Ivy slowly held her hands together, remembering that look on Tiger last night when he asked her who left a print on her arm.
'Why… did he do that?'she wondered to herself, biting her inner lips as a habit. 'There's no reason for him to risk his job just to get revenge for me. Even though we met more than a couple of times, last night was the first time we talked.'
No one could probably answer Tiger's actions and reasoning aside from the man himself. But alas, the man just kept spewing a bunch of nonsense instead of defending himself. This explains the huge question in everyone's head.
"Shit!" Heaven jumped out of the bench in panic, earning Ivy's attention. Her horrified expression caused deep lines on Ivy's forehead.
"What's wrong?" Ivy asked. "Did something happen again?"
"There will be if I don't come back to the office right now." Heaven clicked her tongue as she waved in urgency. "Nice seeing you, my dear. But Mr. Yang will hang me upside down if I don't return. I forgot to tell him what the other department told me to tell him!"
"Wait —"
"See you around! Mama needs to work hard for the family!"
Ivy opened and closed her mouth, but her voice didn't come out. All she could do was watch Heaven run as if her life depended on it.
"She can be silly sometimes," she whispered, chuckling at seeing the cute side of Heaven. Her smile slowly faded as another shallow breath slipped past her lips.
"I guess I won't know the real reason why he's poking his nose in my business if I don't ask the man himself." Ivy peeled her eyes from where Heaven ran off, looking up at the clear blue sky. Her eyes softened as she stared at the serene clouds moving in their relaxed pace.
"Broke his hands, huh?" the corner of her lips curled up subtly, shaking her head as she felt this strange satisfaction at this part of the news. Although she disliked Tiger's meddling in her business, the thought that he broke Silas's hands made her naturally tense shoulders relax.
Silas wouldn't be able to use those filthy hands to touch her — at least for the time being.
