[Bonus chapter] eavesdropped
Axel and Tiger checked each floor while chatting in between. To be honest, Axel was surprised. Even though he spent the entire afternoon with the man, he didn't feel bored. They mostly talked about many nonsense things, but Tiger's interesting way of talking kept him engaged. 1
Axel would've stayed with him more, but Tiger was called because Dominic had another meeting outside. And with that, they parted ways. Axel still idled around though, wanting to wait for his sister-in-law to clock out. But when Heaven replied to his countless messages, he realized Heaven was drowning with errands and she couldn't go home early.
With that dilemma on the table, Axel decided to go home to the old residence. For sure, at this time, Basti was already awake from his afternoon nap. He better just play with his nephew and niece and secure the title of the best uncle.
'Dang. I'm also a part of the LYON Group, but why am I the only one who isn't busy about tomorrow's event?'Axel wondered, strutting his way to the underground parking. He was whistling as he tossed and caught his keys in the air.
'Well, that's probably because I've been there.'He shrugged, not bothered by his lack of work while everybody else was running out of time. 'Should I buy the kids some food on the way? I wonder what Basti preferred today?'
As the self-proclaimed best uncle, Axel never failed to spoil his brother's kids. They were his ray of sunshine, especially Sebastian because that boy had been behaving himself. He had grown more tolerant of his uncle. Although, sometimes, his horns would once in a while peek.
'Should I bring them some ice cream from their favorite...' Axel's thoughts trailed off as he instinctively ducked, hiding from the vehicle near the spot where he parked his car. He slowly raised his head over the sedan, brows furrowed, catching a glimpse of Silas's side profile.
'What is that guy doing here?' he wondered, squinting his eyes to see better. 'He's talking to someone.'
From Axel's position, he could barely see a glimpse of Silas. He couldn't see the person he was talking to.
'He has his own office. Why meet someone here?' The lines between his brows deepened, having these strange thoughts swirling in his mind. 'That's shady. I can't hear them.'
His desire to eavesdrop on the conversation compelled him to tip-toe his way closer. Axel kept his head down, knees bent, making no sound in his steps. He hid behind the cars in the parking space, stopping every few seconds to see if Silas found him out. When he could hear Silas's faint voice, Axel stopped behind someone's car.
"We're going to make a move tomorrow," was the first thing Axel heard, and he recognized it was Silas, who was talking. "These are some keys for tomorrow's operation. I already prepared the uniforms for everyone. Pick them up in this place."
"The security for tomorrow's event will be tight." The other man spoke as if to remind Silas of one thing. "Are you sure you're going this route? It's quite bold."
Silas smirked and snickered. "It's fine. Don't worry about their security."
"You're saying that because you're not the one who'll risk your life."
"Don't talk as if you're not used to it."
"All I'm saying is this is the Zhu family."
"And I'm a Zhu as well," Silas stressed, looking at the person in front of him squarely. "I've paid you enough for your work all these years. Don't forget how I save all your asses on the brink of death. Just stick with the plan."
Axel bit his lips as he mustered his courage to take a peek. He slowly raised his head over the car's rear, glimpsing at the menacing look plastered on Silas. The sight of him made Axel gulp, feeling his heart race as his breathing slowed down.
'What's going on? What operation is he talking about?' Axel wondered, feeling his clasped hands turn cold. His back sweat profusely, damping his suit in nervousness. 'What is he planning to do tomorrow? Well, doesn't matter. I have to tell this to my brother.'
Axel clenched his teeth as he took a careful step back. He was just as careful as he was when he approached. If he continued this, then Silas wouldn't notice him. Just as Axel took three careful steps away, he froze upon hearing Silas's voice again.
"Also, here's another payment," said Silas, handing out a small yet thick envelope containing what seemed to be cash. "I want you to do something else for me."
Curious, Axel stretched his neck to see what was going on. When he did, he caught Silas holding a white envelope and then a hand with a large spiderweb tattoo on the back of his hand took it. From the looks of it, Silas was watching the man check the contents of the white envelope before he spoke.
"Someone is messing with me and he thinks he can get away from it," Silas said as a glint flickered across his eyes. "I want to teach this guy a lesson."
"You want me to kill him?"
"No." Silas shook his head, laughing with his lips closed. "Don't kill him. I want to do it — beat him up until he's dead."
There was a moment of silence before the other person spoke again. "And this person is?"
"His name is Tiger. He's the current captain of Dominic's security team." Silas smirked, imagining how he would make Tiger beg for his life. "Check the envelope again. His face is there. He'll be there tomorrow for sure."
Axel covered his mouth at this exchange. This time, he didn't need to wonder about what Silas planned. He heard it. He was paying someone to kill Tiger. He knew Silas was messed up, but not to this degree. Axel took a step back, trying to keep himself together. However, because of the mixed emotions of fear, shock, and urgency, Axel failed to notice the car near him. When he noticed it, his back had already bumped into it, which produced a blaring alarm noise that caught Silas and the other man's attention.
