A hunch

Meanwhile...0

Dominic furrowed his brows as he had his eyes out the window of the back seat. It was almost nighttime and was already on his way back to the office to wait for his wife. But somehow, he felt this sudden restlessness in his heart.

"Mr. Zhang, did something happen in the company while we were away?" he asked, setting his eyes on the front passenger seat.

Dane instinctively looked back at the backseat, confused. "No, sir. If there's a problem, I'm the first person they would reach out to."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes." Dane nodded, knitting his brows even more. Had there ever been a time he lied to Dominic about the company's status? "Everything is doing fine. It's just that everyone is busy with tomorrow's event."

Dominic rocked his head in understanding, making Dane wonder.

"Why did you ask, sir?" Dane inquired out of plain curiosity. "Is there's something wrong?"

"I just had this strange feeling just now." Dominic leaned back and pinched the bridge of his nose, eyes shut. "Don't mind me. I'm just probably overthinking things."

Overthinking things? That sounded even weirder.

It wasn't that Dominic didn't have those episodes, but it wasn't like this. His line of questions wasn't as strange as his questions now.

"I'll ask someone to double-check," Dane said reassuringly. "I'll update you once I receive a word."

"Alright." Dominic reopened his eyes as he lowered his hand slowly. "About Axel. Is he still in the company?"

"From what I heard, he already left."

"I see." Dominic rocked his head in understanding. "I guess he can't wait for his sister-in-law longer."

"The art department is busy, so I doubt he will wait."

Dominic cast his assistant a look before looking away. He set his eyes back to the window, wondering why he had such a strange hunch.

'I don't want to say it's probably nothing,' he thought as he had learned his lesson in the past. 'I don't like this feeling.'

Dominic slipped his hand inside his suit, taking his phone out to make a phone call. Call it paranoia, but Dominic rarely gets this type of restlessness in his heart. If the company was okay, then he wanted to make sure his children were alright. Therefore, he wasted no time in calling some people in the old residence to make sure his children were safe.

Meanwhile, Tiger, in the driver's seat, couldn't help but glance at the rearview mirror to check Dominic.

Meanwhile, in the art department…

The sound of glass shattering resonated in the busy department. Everyone stopped and turned their heads to where the sound was, only to see the errand girl staring at the broken cup of coffee on the floor. Seeing that she was fine, many of them didn't think much about it.

"Pepsi!" Mr. Yang rushed to Heaven when he heard the sound. The very reason everyone resumed their work was because Mr. Yang would always come at every minor inconvenience.

Mr. Yang stopped a few steps from Heaven, looking at the spilled coffee on the floor. There were pieces of the broken mug on top of the mess.

"Goodness." He pinched the bridge of his nose in distress. "Pepsi. Good thing there weren't papers here. Or else, everyone here will chase you with pitchfork and stakes!"

When Mr. Yang set his eyes back on the errand girl, his brows furrowed. "Pepsi?" he called, confused. "Why are you just staring at it? Did you get hurt?"

Heaven was just staring at the spilled coffee with a plain expression as if she was deep in thought. After a second, she faced Mr. Yang with a smile.

"I'm okay, Boss Yang." She nodded reassuringly. "I was just shocked and was calculating how much it'll be deducted from my pay."

Mr. Yang scrunched up his nose. "Sometimes, you're strange. That won't be deducted from your payslip. Just clean it up and then after that, come pick up something in the customer support."

"Alright!" Heaven listened attentively to his instructions before Mr. Yang left for his office. She maintained a smile on her face, looking back at the spilled coffee on the floor. Another sigh slipped past her nostrils as she went to get some cloth to clean up the mess she caused.

She wasted no time knowing she had other more important things to do. Heaven picked up the broken pieces of the cup, hissing when she grazed her finger.

"Tch." she hissed as she immediately used another ply of tissue to cover her bleeding finger. "Why am I so careless today?"

A look of disappointment resurfaced in her eyes, gazing at the smear on the floor. She had almost wiped everything, but now there were drops of blood on the smeared floor.

'Does this mean bad luck?'she wondered, putting pressure on her finger until it felt numbed enough. 'For some reason, I feel like something bad will happen.'

Heaven went quiet as she wiped the remaining stain on the floor whilst keeping her blood from dropping. She quickly brought the trash to the bin and took the cloth to the restroom to wash it. This time, she washed her finger and left it under the running water.

Another deep breath slipped past her nostrils, and she looked up to see herself in the mirror. She said nothing as she gazed down at the sink again, washing her hands until her bleeding slowed down. After wrapping her hand with a handkerchief, she took her phone out to make a phone call.

"Hello?"

"Dom?" Heaven arched a brow as she glanced at her phone for a moment.

"Hmm?" Dominic hummed a low tune. "Are you clocking out soon? I'm almost in the office."

"I have to stay a bit longer tonight."

"Is that why you called?"

No. Obviously, that wasn't the reason she called him without considering he was busy. Although Dominic often answered her calls no matter what time it was, she wanted to be considerate toward him. Therefore, she always stuck with simple text messages.

"Yes, dear," she breathed out a lie, forcing a smile. Telling him that she just suddenly felt uneasy might worry him. "I just want to let you know that I'm staying in the office a little longer tonight."

"I see. Don't worry. Tell me once you're done. I'll wait for you in my office."

"Yes~" Heaven bid him a short sweet farewell before ending the call. She sighed once again, looking back at the sink where the cloth was in. "At least I know he's safe. I guess this is just nothing."

Throwing away the thought at the back of her head, Heaven didn't dwell on the uneasiness in her heart and continued with her day as usual.
